Producer Rakesh Roshan has confirmed to Bombay Times that his upcoming production ‘Kaabil’ will release in theatres on Republic Day next year.
Roshan’s confirmation comes a day after Shah Rukh Khan visited the residence of his ‘Karan Arjun’ director to sort out the release date issue.
After the meeting, Shah Rukh had tweeted “Met friend/mentor/family after many a days. Mr. R.Roshan reminded me.. it’s not important to do 2 much, it’s important to get 1 right. Thx sir.”
A day after the meeting, Roshan told Bombay Times “My film will release on Republic Day weekend as planned. I don’t know about them. Farhan (Akhtar) is not in town. So maybe after he returns, we’ll know”
Talking about Shah Rukh’s visit, Roshan Sr said “We were just sitting and chatting like old times. It was good to catch up as we have done many films together – I gave Shah Rukh a break in King Uncle, then Koylaa and Karan Arjun”
Meanwhile, trade sources say, Rakesh Roshan has already committed to his old-time distributors and sold a few territories of his film. In the past, Roshan has sold territory rights of his films like Krrish 3, Krrish, Koi Mil Gaya etc to individual distributors even before the film went on floors.
With the kind of mutual trust that Roshan shares with his distributors and the fact that the trade in general is against corporates taking over, it’ll be a catch 22 situation for the makers of Raees. They can’t postpone the film again, but releasing it against ‘Kaabil’ isn’t going to be easy either – especially during a non-festive weekend like Republic Day.

I am a die hard srk fan but i want 2 say something frm my heart today that SRK has made a big mistake by shifting RAEES frm eid,a big weekend,would hav easily crossed 150crs even with a clash but SRK did not.SRK hav forgot that EID is a much bigger weekend than Republic day,then why is he clashing his big film RAEES with KAABIL on a non festive weekend,it was better to release RAEES on EID than clashing with KAAbil now.He should now avoid the clash with KAABIL now and make raees a solo release becasuse he will not be able to make RAEES a big hit and i’m sure that RAEES is the film that SRK will make a comeback with.Its better for SRK to release RAEES with DANGAL now in CHRISTMAS,which is the biggest holiday weekend in the year,not to forget that christmas is celebrated in USA,UK and all over the world,so overseas will be mind blowing.

YRF would have easily generated the profit by releasing it on any festive weekends as it would not have been flopped even in worst case scenario on a holiday weekend.
But they released a dark movie (without any song and leading lady) in a dull month of April (coincidently just two month before Eid, when Raees was slated to be released).

It was a well planned strategy of YRF which eventually clicked subsequently compelling Raees makers to evacuate the Eid weekend.
As far as other non-holiday releases of SRK are concenred, his last non-holiday release (MNIK) fetched 200cr worldwide which your non-actor Khan chased for years until he surpassed that figure recently.
So instead of using hashtags like “shameonglobalstar” , ask your so called megastar to release his movies on a non-holiday. We will observe his megastardom then.
@hrithik don’t act oversmart. Ready was released on post IPL period. Many have given super hits and blockbusters on post IPL period. Akshay, ranbeer, John, are just few examples to show that even they have delivered super hit or blockbuster on that period. So that can’t give credit to none actor. More over it wss also a remake to a succesfull south movie. So it was still a fluke. We all saw what happened to flop ho. It was a flop. Now don’t say that it crossed 100 cr with 4000 screens, Masala genre, South remake, etc. Because despite being out and out commercial movie it was a flop and sank at the box office and proved that Salman is nothing without edx and post IPL period. Let salamn do a none commercial movie and release on non holiday like fan or talaash and then only we will see his real aukaat. Because even jai ho (flop ho) and ready (post ipl) were south remakes so credit doesn’t go to remake king. I only want a complete non commercial movie from salman on non holiday and then I will see weather it can cross 60 cr let alone 100 cr. As far as I know salman’s last non commercial movie was… I can’t remember.
