Producer Rakesh Roshan has confirmed to Bombay Times that his upcoming production ‘Kaabil’ will release in theatres on Republic Day next year.
Roshan’s confirmation comes a day after Shah Rukh Khan visited the residence of his ‘Karan Arjun’ director to sort out the release date issue.
After the meeting, Shah Rukh had tweeted “Met friend/mentor/family after many a days. Mr. R.Roshan reminded me.. it’s not important to do 2 much, it’s important to get 1 right. Thx sir.”
A day after the meeting, Roshan told Bombay Times “My film will release on Republic Day weekend as planned. I don’t know about them. Farhan (Akhtar) is not in town. So maybe after he returns, we’ll know”
Talking about Shah Rukh’s visit, Roshan Sr said “We were just sitting and chatting like old times. It was good to catch up as we have done many films together – I gave Shah Rukh a break in King Uncle, then Koylaa and Karan Arjun”
Meanwhile, trade sources say, Rakesh Roshan has already committed to his old-time distributors and sold a few territories of his film. In the past, Roshan has sold territory rights of his films like Krrish 3, Krrish, Koi Mil Gaya etc to individual distributors even before the film went on floors.
With the kind of mutual trust that Roshan shares with his distributors and the fact that the trade in general is against corporates taking over, it’ll be a catch 22 situation for the makers of Raees. They can’t postpone the film again, but releasing it against ‘Kaabil’ isn’t going to be easy either – especially during a non-festive weekend like Republic Day.

Actually a bhogada is one who used to run away from Eid, Bakrid, Republic day and so on. Also a bhagoda is one who says India is intolerant but during his movie release runs away from his previous statement.
Great decision by rakesh sir …. As i said earlier , i want both movies to do well. Since kaabil was slated to be released on 26 jan. Its raees makers who should move… I think chrismas 2016 would be a good date for raees makers . even though dangal is releasing on chrismas but it is a big holiday period..
I dont know why some srk fans are still thinking and hoping tat kaabil will be postponed.. Kaabil is definitely coming on 26 jan 2017.. Its crystal clear . no two saying on this . hruthik himself has confirmed this date many times… So its upto raees makers if they want to clash with kaabil or not…..

Raees producers are responsible for this situation,they could have gone for bakrid by shifting their own movie Baar Baar Dekho to a later date,which would have been the best date for Raees.But what they did,they choose a date which was booked early by the Kaabil team.Even though republic day is not as big day as EDX for box office!

good decision rakesh sir . expected this only .. as i had said earlier i want both raees and kaabil to do well . but since kaabil was first declared to be released on 26 jan . , so raees should move to chrismas , which i think will be a good decision for raees makers as even though dangal is releasing on chrismas but still its avery big holiday period for both films to earn big…
