Jab Tak Hai Jaan Music Review

What can be a dream romantic Bollywood project? Just Imagine!! Okay… It has to be the iconic and trendsetter Yash Chopra directing the King of Romance Shah Rukh Khan paired opposite today’s topmost leading lady Katrina Kaif. What if the music is composed by the Oscar-winning maestro Allah Rakha Rahman with lyrics from the most gifted writer Gulzar Saab? Well… The dream has come true!!

The association of all these legends has given Yash Chopra’s last souvenir to Bollywood ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, a multi-dimensional feel. Can the stage get any bigger? The obvious answer to that question will be given on November 13, when this epic saga of undying romance will hit the screens, globally. For now it’s time to check out the much anticipated music album. So without much ado, let’s press the play button on the remote.

Jab Tak Hain JaanChalla: Be it DDLJ, Veer Zaara or RNBDJ, SRK-Yashraj combo has always created magic by exploring the Punjabi flavor and this time it’s no different. ‘Challa’ video is already out and it has created a lot of frenzy all around. Rabbi’s voice is refreshing as it bears uncanny resemblance to his chartbuster ‘Bulla ki Jaana’. Gulzar’s words give a Punjabi folk touch to the song. Its commendable how comfortably Rahman shuffles across different languages and still delivers sheer quality. Chartbuster! (Rating 4/5)

Saans: ‘Saans’ is a soft romantic composition driven by sensuously poetical lyrics. It’s one of the best tracks in the album. The huskier tone of Shreya Ghoshal’s voice oozes up the erotica feel of the song. Mohit Chauhan is average. (4/5)

Ishq Shava: It’s time for a zany dance number now. Rahman provides variety with the use of some interesting musical instruments. Gulzar’s lyrics are in synch with the mood of the song. Shilpa Rao’s vocals are catchy. But the real masterstroke and icing on the cake is to get Raghav Mathur (“Can’t Get Enough” fame) sing this song. The USP of the song is some killer vocals by this Canadian singer. (3.5/5)

Heer: Punjabi feel in the album returns with brilliant Sufi composition ’Heer’ sung by none other than Sufi ki Sultana Harshdeep Kaur. Kaur, fresh from the success of Jugni from Cocktail, takes this huge opportunity with her both hands and she is mesmerizing. The words by Gulzar are equally dreamy. (3.5/5)

Jiya Re: Neeti Mohan, who is a regular now in Rahman’s live shows, gets a chance to sing this groovy number. The melody is catchy, livelier and foot-tapping. Words from Gulzar glorify the feeling of a free bird. (3/5)

Jab Tak Hai Jaan: The title track of the movie is a hauntingly poetic melody by Rahman with some bewitchingly romantic lyrics penned by Gulzar. The song starts off slowly but picks up great pace as it goes on. Another Rahman regular Javed Ali strikes gold with his earthy and highly energetic vocals. He is ably assisted by talented Chennai crooner ShakthiSree Gopalan. (3.5/5)

Saans (Reprise), Ishq Dance and Poem: Saans(Reprise) a much slower and highly situational version of Saans sung again by Shreya. Ishq Dance is an instrumental piece. Jab Tak Hai Jaan poem has been seen and heard in the promo and it has been included in the music album as well in the voice of King Khan.

Overall Verdict – Rating: ★★★½☆

From the pioneers of Romance, we expected at least one romantic evergreen number which will capture the listener’s heart from the word go and stay in his mind for years like Humko Hum hi se churalo, Tujhe Dekha to ye jaana, Tu Hai meri Kiran, Dil To Pagal Hai or Tere Liye Hum bhi Jiye. That is missing.

The album, no doubt, is highly refreshing as is evident from the fact that we see irregular names like Rabbi, Raghav, Harshdeep and Neeti in a mainstream Hindi music album. Visuals will be out of the world to say the least. Songs take time to grow on you and the success of the music will be directly proportional to the film’s success at the ticket window which should not be a tough ask given SRK’s foolproof record with Yashraj Banner.

Get ready for a rocking musical Diwali!!!

  • @shahid Yes only critics gives good reviews because yashraj give money to them but peoples are don,t liking the song except you srk fans and yaar tell from bottom of your heart that songs are really good yes one song saans is very good but others are disaster and boring songs.

  • hey guys ..this album too will be a milestone………….if some of you are around 25 or more in age you must’ve remembered how bad ratings were given to DIL SE music by critics but as you can see it is considered as best of 1990s and song CHAIYAN CHAIYAN is considered to be most popular song of all times acc to many polls even beating DEV ANAND’s movie HARE RAMA HARE KRISHNA’s chartbuster DUM MAARO DUM…..this music is like SWADES’s …..it seems to be boring at first but takes on you slowly and eventually you r addicted to it……………………

remember SWADES music also seemed boring at first but it is considered milestone too and even AR REHMAN himself says that he feels SWADES is his best music creation…….

  • @sakib, firstly u said the critcs gave bad reviews and when i showed it the reviews, then wah now u started he paid the critics wah!! those are local sites i mentioned okay….
from bottom of my heart, i am saying that i luved all the songs..

  • well…..it’s average for me…had a lot of expectations as A.R Rehman & gulzar were there…but disappointed……..
the weakest music by Yash ji movie…..
hope so the movie ld be gr8 as it;s Yash ji last’s….v8g for 13 nov.

  • AND yes …….. a song from SWADES “YE JO DES HAI TERA” seemed most boring when it was new ,,,, but now it leaves me in tears everytime i hear it with video……….
Dont worry guys everything needs time to grow and everything grows at its own speed ……..from my side its a thumbs up to Mr. Rehman….and Gulzaar Saahab……………and maybe after watching the movie u’ll realize that songs were just perfect acc to movie…….

  • Except saans no song is worth listening . SON OF SARDAR ALBUM >> JTHJ ALBUM . Raja rani , title song of son of sardar , bichdan all are amazing songs.

  • @indicine ur review is overated surely. Honestly JTHJ album deserves 2.5 / 5 . Dis is what u don’t expect from great people like Ar. Rahman nd Gulzar . It’s a huge let down .

  • dude Rehman’s music is slow poison,it grows on you…one doesn’t likes his music instantly, let some days pass by i’m sure it will grow on everyone…mark my words this will be the best album of the year…

  • Too much disappointing…………. :-( The only song ‘Challa’ is gives feeling of YashRaj film’s soundtrack………..!!!!!!
It’s better to listen “1920 Evil returns” 5 tracks rather than 8 tracks (except challa) of “JTHJ”.

  • Such a superb album… AR Rahman always rockzz… Album like the movie tag line romance so touch ful of romantic he is the legend…….. No word more he is the legend….

  • average album.. feelin pity for srk fans.. challa songs sounds more like pop song rather than movie song.. no chatbuster song… only thn left for srk fans to say- it will grow on u slowly..
first everbody made joke of movie title..
then everybody made joke of same old boring trailer.
now everybody making joke of its music (( srk fans used to say ar rahman gulzar yash chopra srk combo wlll give the music of the century now they have to say it will grow on slowly))
    poor srk fans….
jus listen to bichanda song from sos.. u guys will forget the music of jthj n love that song…

  • No one can believe that this is Rehman’r music.
It has no match with Rehman’s previous work.
Even Himesh done great with SOS music.
Srk fans had to love it,there is no choice infront of them.
But its hard to digest for common audience.
Mark my words for a romantic film great music is prime need & when film release everyone will say,’Lack of good music is a minus point of film’.

Waiting for reviews of some unbiased people.

Dislike my comment but 100 or 1000 dislikes my to my comments doesn’t change the truth.
Ask yourself is this Album that good?

  • @nagesh you peoples firstly dont listen more times songs and comment here..all songs are very touching when you listen to it more times..try all haters…then say

  • @Rajesh
A common Indian have very small time from his day to day work & he listen music in available time for entertaintment.
Now he need to take leave from office by telling,I am not liking JTHJ’s music so i am going to listen it for a hole day repetadly.

  • I think writer given 2 stars to the music, which is sufficient for it.
    Then he added,
    half star for Yashji,
    half star for Guljar,
    half star for Rehman.

This is only for respect them or something different because this site giving only JTHJ’s articles where is SOS’s music review?

Dont do it that openly unless people will get it.

  • i can,t see this kind of album after rbdj it has everything great lyrics people who want dika chinka , dhang dhang can,t understand this music because this is from the best of the field

every song is catchy like rockstar it would take time to understand and after sometime people will begin to like the album
i listened two times and i can, t stop myself
because brilliance does not need acceptance .

challa .sanns, jab tak hai jaan ,heer are my favourites

other 2 songs are also good i don,t find anything bad in the album it is only album in recent years which has every song to listen

  • great album people who compare it with veer zaara you have to understand that time is changed that was era of romantic songs that is not case today
yash chopra also written in the album that he wanted to have a music which has mixture of new and old and this album has this quality
if there were song like veer zaara in this movie people will say that they don,t do anything new and they copied veer zaara , ddlj and mohabatain

sanns is brilliant romantic number i can,t find any thing missing in this song.
all other songs have romantic touch .

hats off to the one and only ar rahman

    proud of india

  • Avg album..,1920 evil return awsome album and aye kuda may be the best song of the year…if i wrong just listen that song..

  • THIS ALBUM IS FAR BETTER THAN EK THA TIGER , ROWDY RATHORE, SOS , BODYGUARD, READY ,BOL BACHAN IF THIS ALBUM DESERVE 2 STARS WHAT THESE ALBUM DESERVE 1 STAR OR LESS THIS IS CLASS MUSIC YOU CAN,T COPMARE IT WITH SOUTH INDIAN REMAKES MOVIES MUSIC
