Veteran Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has said the industry is getting dirtier and going backwards as time progresses. He also said clashes are no longer ethical as his latest film ‘Kaabil’ was only given 40% of screens, the rest of which went to the other release this weekend Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Raees’.
Talking to DNA India, Roshan said “I thought this industry will get mature day by day with all the corporate coming in. But it is getting dirtier and dirtier and we are going backwards”
“I have told them to avoid such clashes because it’s not good and ethical for the film. The producers are losing, distributors are losing, exhibitors are losing, audience is losing, who has so much money to go and watch two films? You are depriving so many people of so many things. Only way to go about it is by going 50-50. So that others when they come with such clashes they will think twice.”
Remembering the olden days in the industry when the industry was close-knit family, Roshan said times have changed and people only put up a nice face in front of the media.
“Everything is getting dirty and unethical. No professionalism, no friendship, it’s (Bollywood) not a close knit family at all. It was in my time. Jeetendra, me and Rishi Kapoor are best of friends even today. That was the industry we were working in. Now just shaking hands that also we don’t know what they mean. Putting up a smile and kissing each other’s cheeks in front of the media. That’s not friendship.” he said.

i am though Fan of Srk and I say its really unethical to clash for SRK and hrithik and makers of Raees has done bad decision of clash thats correct .But after that Kaabil should be prepone or postponed by a week don’t really affects film like Kaabil it still collection more than 150cr in normal week .But here papa roshan is overconfidence with the film .
giving number of screen is based upon Exhibitors not producers Raees makers are sold their film in 65 cr and they encashed it .But exhibitors have their own decisions to divide screens ..
Dangal is still running and taking space why ?
Both films are meant for 150 200cr film respectively but clash makes loss .Raees makers cant afford further delay but kaabil makers should but Rakesh ji has overconfidence and now he is further hypocrisy.

According to your estimate , you said 1st day collection was close to 10cr and 2nd day collection could be around 18.5 cr including tamil and telegu. Also, the official collections are close to that estimate. but, few people in trade are saying that roshans have inflated. Whats your take on this? Also, can kaabil get some more shows as the WOM seems to be incredible? Please answer this

It is true but sad. Since most of people are fans of khans they are not understanding the industry standing. All actors in Bollywood needs equal space and opportunity!!!!…if khans always take away all holidays when will other actors prove themselves. It is not that other actors don’t have the potential to make as big as Khans. But it is khans who are not allowing them to do so. For e.g. whenever other actors got a chance to release their movies during these big festivals they have done better. Examples:
Hrithik – Krish 3 – Diwali – 200 + crores
Akshay – Rustom – Independence Day – 120 + crores
Hrithik – Bang Bang – 180 Crores
Ranveer – BM – Christmas – 180 Crores
Ranbir – YJHD – post Ipl – 180 crores
Ajay – Golmaal – Diwali – 100 + crores
Ajay – Singham – Independence Day – 100 + crores
And if they are given more opportunities they will definitely excel as par with Khans and their movies will earn 200 + crores. If khans release their movies during non-holiday periods their movies may also struggle to cross 200 crores.
I am not taking anything away from Khans especially Aamir Khan – he is incredible – his movies are always a treat to watch but there should be some guidelines in the industry e.g.
1) Where every actor needs to have one festival release and one non festival release – some kind of rotation policy.
2) Once who announces the date first will retain that date. No other movie should be released on same date.
Hope the industry moves in right direction going forward.
