Q. Just because ‘FAN’ had flopped at the box office, is it wise to write off Shahrukh Khan completely? If yes, can he make a comeback? (Aashish Thapar)
A. Shah Rukh Khan is too big a star to be written off so easily. His popularity is still very high and one or two under-performers do not make a big difference to established stars like Shah Rukh. It’s because of his own high-standards and incredibly high success ratio that people are even talking about his downfall. Akshay Kumar’s Brothers was a big failure and all his films in 2015 were under-performers. Did anyone talk about his downfall? One film like Airlift and the entire perception has changed.
The problem for SRK is.. right from the early stages of his career to until about 2009-2010, he was the top star. There were other contenders, but he was ahead. But in the last 6-7 years, Aamir and Salman have taken giant strides and SRK hasn’t been able to do match up. Those big grossers have been missing, even though opening-wise he’s right up there in the Top 2. Next only to Salman and even comparable to him.
Opening of his last few films:
- Chennai Express – Highest Opening day, Highest Single Day
- Happy New Year – Highest Opening day, Highest Single Day
- Dilwale – Excellent opening, but was affected by Bajirao Mastani. 21 crore is excellent even for a solo release on a working day, Dilwale managed that even though it lost 40% multiplex shows to Bajirao Mastani.
- FAN – It isn’t a off-beat film that it’s being made out to be after it’s failure, but for a film without songs, opening of nearly 20 crore is terrific.
So it’s all about that ‘one big film’ where everything falls into place. Not just the opening, but the content too. The sooner it comes, the better. If it doesn’t come in the next 1-2 years, it’s then that things will actually begin to get serious because he doesn’t have age on his side anymore.
@yuvraj,yeah definitely salman get more love then KING KHAN from people may be in your dreams.that’s why he couldn’t able to give a single hit of his own in last decade and had more than double flops then KING KHAN.if that is not the live you’re talking about them what is it?,rofl.
Your decade struggler star’s debut biwo to go aisa was a big flop.until and unless sooraj barjatya came and saved his career through his family drama movies.And during that period salman adjusted himself with that family drama movie and successfully he got covered by then and hahk got maximum footfalls which you’d claiming as salman’s effort while non of his movies even crossed DDLJ’S footfall till yet,ROFL.while DDLJ alone was KING KHAN’S MOVIE with out the much help of any family member or like file of amdhuri in hahk.
And after those movies salman’s but came only at that time when he associated as supporting cast with other actors and got overshadowed by them like beer,mujhse shaadi karogi,KA,hssh,partner like numerous films.
And when he couldn’t get help from anywhere he was almost turned to zayed khan/fardeen KHAN in last decade until prabhu deva came with south remake to save his career.then the game turned but time only because of EID.
otherwise salman has no potency to come near KING KHAN’S FEET forget HIS 3 DECADE REIGNING MEGA CONSISTENT STARDOM whether in terms of ACTING/STARDOM.
TICKETS sells in 2 ways whether with KING KHAN’S NAME or script with appropriate masala content.the later which salmir grabbed perfectly while KING KHAN tried to run movies with the help of HIS NAME only.THE MEGA CROWD PULLING CAPACITY too says the same salman is not comparable with KING KHAN’S FEET.
@yuvraj,copying movie verdicts from salman can club site couldn’t prove anything.90’S+2000-2009—-DOMINATED BY KING SRK.AND EVEN AFTER THAT KING KHAN MOVIES DOMINATED IN WW over salman’s movies.compare HITS,salman is nowhere near KING KHAN but yeah he has more than double flops than KING KHAN,ROFL.

No SRK hit / flop status affected SRKs status as RAEES postponement out of extreme fear of EID competition.
This even angered the SRKs massive hardcore fanbase to be honest.
RAEES poor opening despite good reviews will reduce SRK to ‘star’ from ‘super’star!

Srk is not finished but bcos of his arrogant and cocky nature ppl tend to celebrate and highlight his failures.His ego became larger than life coming from someone from a humble background. This put a lot of ppl off.He became calculative and lost his spontaneity.He also became brash and competitive, everyone in the industry knew he manipulated the opening day of HNY and tweaked CE a little. He will remain relevant buh he will no longer be able to surpass Amir, talkless of the mass mania Salman Khan.
Indicine we respect you a lot and was very proud of you when you were bold enuff to declare FAN a flop, pls do not toe the line of other sites who serve as srk’s media outlet. Be factual and honest always and try giving other stars a bit more coverage not just the khans.

In 90s… Compared to srk I think Govinda sir was best…even without stories he used2 give hits just by his antics and his dance…Ankhen,raja babu,coolie no-1 , hero no 1, shola aur shabnam,saajan chale sasural, Dulhe raja,Haseena maan jayegi and many more

Coming to the topic yes it was a pathetic question. Could be an Ajay hater only or both SRK/Ajay hater. And there are definitely some users like that here. It was a question that didn’t deserve to be in that QnA. But am glad that Indicine selected it still and slammed him hard.

I agree salman is in the peak of the career. But when his time is over for which movie you can remember him. Srk and Amir have so much of quality movies in them. Afterwards salman woluld be considered as entertainer but Srk would be considered as the legend since he has very much quality movies. Amitabh bachchan does have numerous flops but he is legend due to his fine acting.
Indicine pls correct the mistake. Salman was way ahead of all the stars in the nineties. Srk was tops from around 2000 – 2008, in whch period Hirtihk and Sunny baba intercepts his rule. From then henceforth its Sallu bhai all the way. GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!
