Q. Just because ‘FAN’ had flopped at the box office, is it wise to write off Shahrukh Khan completely? If yes, can he make a comeback? (Aashish Thapar)
A. Shah Rukh Khan is too big a star to be written off so easily. His popularity is still very high and one or two under-performers do not make a big difference to established stars like Shah Rukh. It’s because of his own high-standards and incredibly high success ratio that people are even talking about his downfall. Akshay Kumar’s Brothers was a big failure and all his films in 2015 were under-performers. Did anyone talk about his downfall? One film like Airlift and the entire perception has changed.
The problem for SRK is.. right from the early stages of his career to until about 2009-2010, he was the top star. There were other contenders, but he was ahead. But in the last 6-7 years, Aamir and Salman have taken giant strides and SRK hasn’t been able to do match up. Those big grossers have been missing, even though opening-wise he’s right up there in the Top 2. Next only to Salman and even comparable to him.
Opening of his last few films:
- Chennai Express – Highest Opening day, Highest Single Day
- Happy New Year – Highest Opening day, Highest Single Day
- Dilwale – Excellent opening, but was affected by Bajirao Mastani. 21 crore is excellent even for a solo release on a working day, Dilwale managed that even though it lost 40% multiplex shows to Bajirao Mastani.
- FAN – It isn’t a off-beat film that it’s being made out to be after it’s failure, but for a film without songs, opening of nearly 20 crore is terrific.
So it’s all about that ‘one big film’ where everything falls into place. Not just the opening, but the content too. The sooner it comes, the better. If it doesn’t come in the next 1-2 years, it’s then that things will actually begin to get serious because he doesn’t have age on his side anymore.
Its d impact of non holiday release for srk even though friday was partial holiday..he will never dare to release his movies on non holiday..
This is why we call him media made star…
He was top star from the early stage of his career… Comon lol say something else…
If he was top star why he hasn’t produced industry hits or HGOTA??? Forget that he hasn’t dominated boxoffice like Salmair did…
I don’t understand why ppl used to call him king of clashes bcoz at his peak days others at least dared to clash with him… But where as our own global queen is scared to clash with Sultan of Bollywood… That’s the difference between Megastardom and localstardom…
He was just lucky that he was in the safe hands of yrf nd dharma…
And its a matter of One Big Film to fall everything into place… That too with in 1-2 years… Comon yaar be realistic and tell me where r the big EDX releases r available in next 2 years??? And look at the lineup of our queen films for next 2 years… Non r appealing universally…
I bet that Chennai Express will be the highest grossers for haklu in his career and never he will touch 200 grosser again… Can’t say if he start playing supporting cast for other hero’s and get into 200-300 grossers…
He was only successful with romantic genre and that genre doesn’t suit him now at all…
So it’s very clear that Srk Era has fallen in 2007… Once upon a time there was a romantic hero called Srk…
Now since Raees makers are saying it will release on 26th Jan..I am starting to believe the rumors that the end product has not shaped up well as per the makers’ wish. So most probably they are buying time to re-write / re-shoot certain portions that are problematic. Otherwise even a common man won’t put his hand up for a release date (Jan 26th) which is not at all a huge festive weekend and moreover already occupied by other 2 films!
As Indicine said Ridesh and SRK owe an explanation to the general public about the state of affairs related to Raees. The sooner they do it the better.
stupids SRK does not need sympathy he is a self made mega star no godfathers , no filmy family backgrounds yet he became the king of bollywood he is the king and he will be back no one is gonna stop the king
Box office does not affect King of Bollywood he is the global star no one is so talented like him
What a joke, Aamir still hokds the highest non hokiday opening then how on earth srk is in top 2? Let srk even cross 30 cr on non holiday which Megastar Aamir Khan did way back in 2013. Srk is much smaller than Aamir in stardom. If srk was in PK the opening wouod have been only 20-23 cr as fan and crapwaale proved it. In opening Aamir is on top followed by salman. But srk is nowhere. HNY’s opening credit goes to deepika, new year holiday and over hyped promotions. Otherwise Aamir always has upper hand over srk in opening.
@Thug for your kind info, Baadshaho has been moved to later date in march, so it will only ace kaabil. But long delay will cause audience to lose interest in raees so i believe it will meet the same fate as Fan.

@ indicine – start calculate all 3 khan movies since QSQT and you will get to know Salman was top star of 90’s. he had 3-3 hits in 98 and 99.

Haters (decade struggler salmir,flopstar ajay,akshay) ‘s fans are saying these things from 2010 onwards still EVERY KING KHAN’S MOVIE GETS GIANT OPENING and their star could even come nearly to that.And more importantly their stars struggles through out decades and they are talking about KING OF BOLLYWOOD.
I know every actir/non actor and their fans are insecure of KING KHAN.so always KING KHANS FANS bashed them like hell alone .And so they’re doing but they can do it only for very few time because they know KING KHAN CAN CHANGE THE TIME LIKE A MAGICIAN.now that’s what they heard of so much.
FAN has no entertainment to offer—-and you’re saying IT’S not an offbeat movie just because IT has some chasing sequences.IT has no songs+no heroines+no entertainment+no big holiday+IPL effect+STRONG WOM of jungle book.last but not least becoming to and only KING SRK acted instead of any other supporting actor much.And also KING SRK came up with little negative character and his death at the climax might room the interest from viewers and entertainment is the main thing which IT couldn’t afford.
No neerja,airlift’s performance whatever not even came close to THE TERRIFIC PERFORMANCE OF GAURAV CHANDNA.but the film’s back ground story with no entertainment is the reason behind IT’S FAILURE.which haters never understand.so bark as much as you can ,I can remember that fialgue from FAN movie for you—“kitne aaye air kitne Gaye here jaise,KING KHAN jahan pe that wahi par rahenge,no ukhadna gain ukhadle.
Even during HIS weakest period and giving worst movies—KING KHAN was the 1ST to give 200CR in this decade and broken all records once which slman can’t did till now in 5 EIDS,still HE has 4 100CR and 2 200CR movies despite of getting smaller BIG HOLIDAY compared to EID/XMAS .IF this is the end then I can say other stars are still in their MOTHER’S womb.

What indicine did not mentioned is all those above mention films were festive releases. There are chances that HNY, Dilwale Or CE can lose 30 – 40 % of their bizness without festival atmostphere during which people are ready to shell out more money in these periods. Whilst the likes of ajay and akshay have less advantages but they dare to release at any time and season

Just cant believe how can someone ask such a question. After 25 years of successful career asking them to still prove themselves. Just as hilarious as asking Big B to prove himself ahead of the Khans today.
Am a big fan of Ranveer and Ranbir but let them pass successful 10 years at least before we can even think of considering them of the league of todays senior actors.

Very interesting comparison between SRK and Akki. There are some people who think their stardom/career is over just because of few under performers? If they can become a superstar from out of nowhere/ no godfathers etc, then why can’t they bounce back again?

In terms of opening fan was more commercial than pk ,a jabra hit song boost fan 1st day collection and huge promotion by yrf unlyk PK.But Holiday release Fan 1st day -19.02cr .Non holiday Pk-26.61cr.
I bet no heavy promotion ,no top heroines ,no manipulation every srk movies go into Avg or Flop.
Its because of social media and news channels people are thinking that srk is comparable Salman and aamir.but actually Its 10 years 2007-2016 he is way below Salman and Aamir .I accept in 2001-2004 He is ahead becoz aamir absence and salman personal controvosies and nt serious about their carrear.

Your decade struggler star’s debut biwo to go aisa was a big flop.until and unless sooraj barjatya came and saved his career through his family drama movies.And during that period salman adjusted himself with that family drama movie and successfully he got covered by then and hahk got maximum footfalls which you’d claiming as salman’s effort while non of his movies even crossed DDLJ’S footfall till yet,ROFL.while DDLJ alone was KING KHAN’S MOVIE with out the much help of any family member or like file of amdhuri in hahk.
And after those movies salman’s but came only at that time when he associated as supporting cast with other actors and got overshadowed by them like beer,mujhse shaadi karogi,KA,hssh,partner like numerous films.
And when he couldn’t get help from anywhere he was almost turned to zayed khan/fardeen KHAN in last decade until prabhu deva came with south remake to save his career.then the game turned but time only because of EID.
otherwise salman has no potency to come near KING KHAN’S FEET forget HIS 3 DECADE REIGNING MEGA CONSISTENT STARDOM whether in terms of ACTING/STARDOM.
TICKETS sells in 2 ways whether with KING KHAN’S NAME or script with appropriate masala content.the later which salmir grabbed perfectly while KING KHAN tried to run movies with the help of HIS NAME only.THE MEGA CTOWD PULLING CAPACITY too says the same salman is not comparable with KING KHAN’S FEET.
