Q. Just because ‘FAN’ had flopped at the box office, is it wise to write off Shahrukh Khan completely? If yes, can he make a comeback? (Aashish Thapar)
A. Shah Rukh Khan is too big a star to be written off so easily. His popularity is still very high and one or two under-performers do not make a big difference to established stars like Shah Rukh. It’s because of his own high-standards and incredibly high success ratio that people are even talking about his downfall. Akshay Kumar’s Brothers was a big failure and all his films in 2015 were under-performers. Did anyone talk about his downfall? One film like Airlift and the entire perception has changed.
The problem for SRK is.. right from the early stages of his career to until about 2009-2010, he was the top star. There were other contenders, but he was ahead. But in the last 6-7 years, Aamir and Salman have taken giant strides and SRK hasn’t been able to do match up. Those big grossers have been missing, even though opening-wise he’s right up there in the Top 2. Next only to Salman and even comparable to him.
Opening of his last few films:
- Chennai Express – Highest Opening day, Highest Single Day
- Happy New Year – Highest Opening day, Highest Single Day
- Dilwale – Excellent opening, but was affected by Bajirao Mastani. 21 crore is excellent even for a solo release on a working day, Dilwale managed that even though it lost 40% multiplex shows to Bajirao Mastani.
- FAN – It isn’t a off-beat film that it’s being made out to be after it’s failure, but for a film without songs, opening of nearly 20 crore is terrific.
So it’s all about that ‘one big film’ where everything falls into place. Not just the opening, but the content too. The sooner it comes, the better. If it doesn’t come in the next 1-2 years, it’s then that things will actually begin to get serious because he doesn’t have age on his side anymore.

As far as I know Ppl do call akshay 70 or 80crore club star for his 2015 underperformers,even after airlift success.
So criticising SRK is obvious nd some Ppl just make fun Even when they know The power of That individual superstar.
But Ppl were not aware that #jabra song is not included in the movie so it did helped opening day collection… don’t call it without song movie,that song helped in opening & buzz!
He is the GIANT MAN OF THE BOLLYWOOD WORLDWIDE..

Fan was his first film which was a non festive release and the result is in front of you…!!!!
Dilwale had everything in its favour. Commercial genre+ Varun+ kajol+ Rohit shetty+ superhit music. Still failed to touch 150cr mark.
Fan received extremely positive reviews and it’s content was “very Rich”. Also got 2 holidays (Ram navami & Mahavir jayanti) in its 1st week. Still it collected just 80cr.
It is not at all worthy to call him a superstar now.

I have serious objections on your taking average of total lifetime collections of all the movies of actors..
Ddlj and hahk are cannot be directly compared compared with CE and bajrangi bhaijaan..
The value of 1 rupee was much more at that time than today.. It’s completely wrong to compare the two..
Please calculate the overall collections of actors keeping in view the time value of money..
PS- A CA or CA student will understand my point immediately..
the person who is in industry for more than 20 years doesnot need a comeback ,, hit and flops are the part of life for such superstars, like amir,salman ,akshay, and ajay
A simple question to all (including #indicine)……if he is such a huge superstar as you are pretending then WTH he gets away from Eid like a coward???
LOL! There is no way now. All the holidays of 2017 have already locked up. Raees is currently in news for all the bad reasons. By the time January approaches, it will lose most of its craze. Also, who do you think will watch the story of smuggler on a national holiday. Kaabil will easily dominate it.
And to the worst, if Housefull 3, Mohenjodaro and Shivaay become blockbusters, SRK will face a very tough competition. I think in no time we will witness the end of an era.
Acting wise, SRK is a legend! Even if his last two films underperformed at BO , they still had opened very well! A superstar can ensure a good opening and a legendary actor can ensure a legendary performance! SRK has done his job in Fan!

CE never Broke the Opening day Record of ETT its was just lie created to increase the Hype..
Even with 100% occupnacy 44.7 crore for HNY is Mathematically Impossible thats why every Trade fig said “Acc to Red Chillies” because they were Hyped beyond Anuthing..
Fake Records,Bought Filmfares and Other awards by Dancing Like Chammiya and Pr given King Tag thats the Stardom of SRK..
Without Yrf and Dharma the Hit ratio of SRK is less than 30% where as as even Before ETT the Hit Ration of Salman khan was 48 % ..

Brother is now regarded as a film too dark for hindi audience even though it had familay drama
Fan is regarded as a classic thriller that is niche even though it is none of those things…
So…these aren’t in anyway cult classics..When can indian audience own up to their star’s failures..??
After Dilwale and fan’s failure he has joined the league of Akshay Kumar. There are plenty of similarities between Akki and SRK. Both Akki & global king are considered superstars but fail to deliver back to back 100cr grossers.
Srk–the end…once upon a time there was selfboasting arrogant actor srk…he used2 buy awards…overactor…made by yrf and dharma..used2 give hits due to EDX
Raees was always looking the most promising SRK film when the teaser was released..but by the time the film can see the light of the day it is finding itself in a complete mess..may god provide some sense to ritesh sidhwani and he choses a good release date in 2016..if many are in favour of bakri Eid so be it..they should listen to fans and popular websites also instead of only using their brain..
Raees will be a disaster.

now shahrukh khan can only become star when he do a good script with a very fresh story film
He will remain a superstar even if he give 10 more flop in a row.
How many times will Indicine compare Fan with Brothers to save SRK’s neck from a disaster?
His career is over since bRa.1 released coz if u look at some of his recent films Lal mirchi and Manipulation helps him alot to attained controversial hit or superhit tags, no one really knows about verdicts of movies like bRa.1/Dog 2/Kabh tak hai jaan/Mai name is bakri khan, footfalls are proof of it! lungi depress is only exception that too coz of Bhai’s absence
orelse he is still chasing 5 yr old ETT record !! And haklutards don’t expect much from Flopees coz it will be another flop for u’r Coward Khan!!!
@Indicine i kind of disagree. If you say srk is in top 3 in erms kf opening then it would make sense, but how can you say in top 2? Dont forget aamir still hokds the highest non holiday opening record and PK didnt have a commercial genre, sons had mixed reviews, and released on normal friday, still opening was 26 cr which is huge. And all his recent films have released on normal friday, while srk’s almist all films except dilwale released on either hokiday or partial holiday. Also note, that HNY and CE had deepika as well who has her own fan following. So dont say that he is in top 2 in terms of opening, but top 3 would make sense.

Not coz u defended SRK but coz I think thats the truth. It is not that SRK has delivered 3 or 4 flops or disasters in a row which a number of actors have done before in some period of their career.
It is just that the expectations from him are so high that after delivering an average and a flop movie it looks like he is down and out. Which he is definitely not. And yes the increasing rise of Salman and Amir in the last 10 years has hurt him also as the comparisons are always there.
And completely agreed with that last para. He is 50 plus so he doesnt have a number of years to bring that turn around. He has to do that in next 2 years. So box office performance of Raees and Anand Rai movie at Christmas will be crucial.
@tiger at least their underperformed film earns 80cr but no one can challenge your Bhai in giving flops …
Lol there was a time when Bhai movies don’t use to go beyond 15cr …
