Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of Oscar nominated film ‘Lagaan’, will be directing Hrithik Roshan in his most ambitious film to date. Titled Mohenjodaro, the film is based on the Indus Valley Civilization.
In an interview with DNA India, Ashutosh spoke about the film and why he decided to cast Hrithik as the main lead.
The Indus Valley civilisation has fascinated me since my schooldays when we read about it in history. Though I made other films Mohenjodaro always remained at the back of my mind. After Jodhaa Akbar I started reading on the subject in detail and as I researched more I realised that there is so little one knows about this period. Though a lot of romanticisation of these times have been done still we don’t know much and yet there is constant talk about it as a forgotten world I could bring that to my film with a romantic touch. So I wrote a love story spread across those times. Though it is essentially a love story the core of the story is Mohenjodaro – seen through the eyes of the lovers.
I want to say that I am thrilled to be back with Hrithik after Jodha Akbar. We had worked together last four years ago. I wrote my first draft of Mohenjodaro three years ago and I thought of him as my hero. I am glad Hrithik and I are working together on this. He will single-handedly bring great value to my film and enhance it tremendously with his presence. We have activated the research on various looks Hrithik and will be finalsing something soon.

I have done that. I have read all books of archeologists who have worked at those sites and met some of them. There’s no book on Mohenjodaro that I haven’t written. I have been to the Harappan city Dholavira, in India. Dholavuira is one of the cities of the Indus Valley civilisation that still exists today.

@sss that was ur thinking, if ur saying about emotion watch k3g in which srk-hr in same scene in climax sitting on chair and scene shooted u will get something idea about emotion, in which hr was far better than srk, n what srk did? Sitted cry hug hr, then see his and hr’s expression, what hr did its looking naturally original and what srk did that show he is forcing ourselve to give expressions of intense emotion, for dat role Hr got filmfare… And yes definately Hrithik is better and greater than srk in Acting who overacted many time….. Srk did mostly romantic movies that not mean he is best in emotion.. And as i said b4 for knph srk is no where near to hrithik… and plz dont make fool urself srk is 8 year senior than hr he did over 60 movies, and hr 19, in that too for many genre movies hr is best in versatility too…. And may be only srk fans think he is best actor and best in emotion all ovr the world, which is really a big joke, he called as overactor who baught awards :D didnt u seen iifa of 2012 :p ?? N may be only srk fan saying ddlj is Titanic :p of b.town :D
for me atleast hahk is 50 time better than Ddlj… Hr’s movies disliked by audience?? in year 2000 MK earn 20cr+ which is semi hit and 3rd highest grosser of that year, semi hit just b.cz high budget movie otherwise in 2002-03 some of movie earning 14 cr and getting hit verdict.. Kites is hit in overseas, 49cr domestic which for John and shahid and ranbir movie in 2010 enuf to declare clean hit… And V-Z OF srk my favr8 by him, and truly awesome, but yes kites is more emotional love story, which has hollywood class….. Bcz of lang. Problem it doesnt worked here…..
srk is Greater in siniority but not greater in Acting….. As Akshay Kumar also said dis same line about Hrithik..
@ankan,pity on you when you compared hahk is 50 times better than DDLJ. now it’s not your guilty may you rated salman compared to SRK. hahk is a movie based on totally family member’s act not due to salman’s expressionless statue mode act. seriously DDLJ is overacted movie? now no one could help you. whatever DDLJ is the LONGEST RUNNING movie in INDIA and only biggest popularity movie of 90’s irrespective of collection.ha ha..kites is not even half better in romance as KHNH also JTHJ.you shouldn’t forget JTHJ is the only highest collection ROMANTIC LOVE STORY in INDIA as well as OVERSEAS.don’t give excuse like hollywood class movie so as KHNH AND JTHJ also.
about hr’s overacting may that you couldn’t seen,see kmg hr’s overacting from start to end.see guzarish,same rohit’s overacting sometimes seen in some of the scenes for which it become disaster,lol.even in lakshya I found some overact.about emotions,I don’t want to say anything watch BAAZIGAR/KOYLA then you’ll understand what is emotions.even in a comedy film like CE also in CLIMAX you could see SRK ‘S EMOTIONAL ACT.compare guzarish and MNIK and you know the result also how it liked by in domestic as well a HUGE IN OVERSEAS.in K3G,the type of role that given to SRK is little weaker,hr has to act more intense as he got separated from his brother from childhood.but see CLIMAX,still SRK is better.so don’t compare hr with KING OF ACTING SRK. still hr have to prove him actor to act in films like CDI,MNIK,SWADES,DEVDAS,BAAZIGAR,KANK,KHNH,JTHJ,VZ,DTPH,DDLJ,DIL SE. for expressions watch films like DDLJ,DTPH,DON,DON2,KANK,KHNH,OSO,CE no one could better than SRK WHO IS MASTER OF EXPRESSIONS.
hr’s many love stories are big flop from 2 YRF and 1 rajshri productions.he is too weak in ROMANCE AND EXPRESSIONS.in emotions hr is behind ranbir kapoor.in emotion wise:SRK> amir>ranbir>akshay/hr>ajay.
about other actor’s saying,don’t tell about flop kumar who is always jealous of SRK. about hr’s papa Rakeshji who once said during crazzy4 ,he said SRK is better actor than his son and also said hr learnt a more in acting from SRK during his childhood.it’s your hr who said in just dance,SRK as his preceptor.still if you couldn’t agree than take the examples of 15 FILMAFARE that is highest in bollywood that SRK EARNED. still you couldn’t agree and will say childish thing like DDLJ is a overact film,than no one could help you.
