Ashutosh Gowariker, the director of Oscar nominated film ‘Lagaan’, will be directing Hrithik Roshan in his most ambitious film to date. Titled Mohenjodaro, the film is based on the Indus Valley Civilization.
In an interview with DNA India, Ashutosh spoke about the film and why he decided to cast Hrithik as the main lead.
The Indus Valley civilisation has fascinated me since my schooldays when we read about it in history. Though I made other films Mohenjodaro always remained at the back of my mind. After Jodhaa Akbar I started reading on the subject in detail and as I researched more I realised that there is so little one knows about this period. Though a lot of romanticisation of these times have been done still we don’t know much and yet there is constant talk about it as a forgotten world I could bring that to my film with a romantic touch. So I wrote a love story spread across those times. Though it is essentially a love story the core of the story is Mohenjodaro – seen through the eyes of the lovers.
I want to say that I am thrilled to be back with Hrithik after Jodha Akbar. We had worked together last four years ago. I wrote my first draft of Mohenjodaro three years ago and I thought of him as my hero. I am glad Hrithik and I are working together on this. He will single-handedly bring great value to my film and enhance it tremendously with his presence. We have activated the research on various looks Hrithik and will be finalsing something soon.
Ashutosh also rubbished rumours of the female lead that have been doing the rounds in the last few weeks
I have done that. I have read all books of archeologists who have worked at those sites and met some of them. There’s no book on Mohenjodaro that I haven’t written. I have been to the Harappan city Dholavira, in India. Dholavuira is one of the cities of the Indus Valley civilisation that still exists today.

Ashutosh was always one of the favorite. Mohenjo-daro is the kind of the movie that our industry needs right now. I hope other actors too try different types of movies rather than just same masala.

If we talk about performance wise acc. To me, guzaarish is the best movie of hritik nd then certainly it is jodha akbar nd then it is koi mil gaya a very 2 challenging role can only play by hritik nd then it is agneepath nd dhoom2 nd so on….in mohanjodaro deepika would be best option….anyway all the best for mohanjodaro..i hope it would be another classic movie.

making of historic films means is very good,I always appreciated.also hr is fit for this warrior kind of role so hope movie will do good business.whatever it should be like a perfect film like lagaan/swades whether it earned good/bad collection,as very few good movies do good business in INDIA.so great job asutosh sir is going to make.but one thing DP/PRIYANKA will be fit for hr if they will took sonakshi then the movie will be a big flop.

but kmg seriously!!!!! it’s too overrated,even guzarish upto some little extent.agneepath performance needs highly aggressiveness that hr lacks most in ap-2,that I have never seen such aggressiveness in my life after some films like agneepath-1,BAAZIGAR and vaastav.acting in dhoom2 quite less compared to actions.while znmd performance is good,but don’t know why that film is too boring.
so I never seen ever @nipun to take those 2 movie’s name fiza and mission kashmir which was hr’s best performance according to me.

Finally after a long time we will get to see hrithik in a great movie and great role. for last few years he was torturing his fans and all the audience with some disastrous(though commercially successful) but content wise disastrous movies like kites, guzarish, agneepath, krrish 3,etc. and not sure about bang bang but i have less hope on it because it is a remake of crap hollywood movie. but, this one will be classic and jodha akbar magic should be created. hope hrithik does only good films with talented actresses and not eye candies like katrina kaif or deepika padukone.
@sss:mission kashmir and kites in top 3? ?they were gud performances,but not closed to guzaarish,kmg,ja,agneepath etc. .knph sud b ahead of MK n kites.
I too prefer DP/anushka for female lead.
Sir Ashutosh plzzz give a chance to Anushka Shetty or Nayanthara or Kajal Agarwal for female lead in Mohenjo daro.

Hope it’ll be a great movie and a landmark in Indian cinema. A fresh face should be casted opposite Hrithik. Bored of these so called top actresses, most of them are not so beautiful and have past their prime, which their blind fans can’t see. Either Yami Gautam or Samantha would be great acc. to me.
But @nipun don’t you really think that srk deserve filmfare best actor for mohabbatein, over hrithik in knph, i mean it was much more stronger performance, and also more acclaimed film.
@suchit.keep ur crappy post within yourself. How come those 4 were craps? ? Agneepath was a very gud film and way better than many typical masalas of today. Guzaarish was nice. K3 was ambitious. Kites got positive reviews from leading critics.
@yy:no. .i don’t feel that . .hrithik had double role and he did well there .don’t know about critics,but i loved KNPH more. As for srk,he was good in mohaabatein specially in the last scene where there was a face to face comment pass wid big b. .dat movie was mainly about emotions. .hr’s role was a bit more challanging.

Dont blame Srk fans for every good and bad………Only 3 or 4 doing this and i dont know floppy is the fan of which star as he only talks about akki …………………And you always keep your mouth shut when allother fans (AMir,sallu,Hr,Akki ) creates negativity for srk films…………..For srk everything is ok ……………And baba ji dont pretends to be neutral you are a hater of srk and even sometime a hater of sallu………………………And negativity for HNY has been already started …………but no one talks about it because its srk movies…and spreading negativity is good thing for srk movies…………………Thats what all haters and so called neutral visitor of incidine thinks…………………….
Expecting a great movie from the combo……..HR will be superb in the role although i was little disappointed from his performance in K3……….leading lady should be good enough to handle expressions of a period film…………..My fav Hr performances are

@nipun,of course I also sometimes think about that mission kashmir far weaker than guzarish no doubt but I found guzarish and kmg role quite similar in some scenes.but I think kites is still better but these good films didn’t work.I didn’t make that list according to the order.still fiza is the best according to me but you didn’t said anything about fiza which is the most serious role hr played in his career.
@Yy,of course man,with out no doubt SRK deserves FILMFARE for MOHABBATEIN for one of HIS best performance compared to hr in knph.

@yy and @sss if u comparing performance of Hr and srk in knph and Mohabbatein, clear it Hr in Mission Kashmir same year Better than Srk, and knph its overall packed performance… What is less in it?? Be honest i find srk’s role is not soo powerfull, the other 3 lover dudes and amitabh ji hold well in full movie in absence of srk, in same case if that role of srk was played by salman or other actor then definately u could say that role was not that much gud.. Actually mohabbatein was nt srk’s movie its a movie of each character, each character has same imp. In movie….
and @sss Fiza, MK, was awesome movies and included in Hr’s top 10 best movies as well as performance wise,
Kites is 2nd best romantic movie ever in world cinema after Titanic in romantic genre.. So its ok, Lakshya awesome inspirational movie…. Performance wise great,

@Ankan,I couldn’t change anyone’s perception rather could give HIM suggestion.no need to bring SRK -salman fights here because it’s a joke if we call salman as an actor.I give suggestion which is hr’s best performance that doesn’t mean hr is a greater actor than SRK. hr didn’t have that versatility that SRK has.in emotion wise,no actor born in earth who could compete with SRK. hr’s almost of all those movies disliked by audience,you should have known that reason also.SRK IN MOHABBATEIN was way better than knph and little higher than mk because SRK has higher screen presence than those 3 lover dudes and as well BIGB. more about MOHABBATEIN it’s a musical love story which is very tougher role compared to those.seriously kites is even more romantic than VEER ZAARA and many more such films.It’s DDLJ which is called TITANIC of bollywood.remember that.
