Akshay Kumar’s Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has collected Rs 11.48 crore on its opening day at the domestic box office. The Friday collections are decent considering the poor pre-release buzz with both the trailer and music failing to excite the audience.
However, in comparison to the opening day occupancy of other ‘Post-IPL’ releases in the last few years, Holiday has under-performed. Also, the opening is lower than films like Gunday and 2 States, which featured stars who are yet to firmly establish themselves in the industry and also released on fewer screens.
Holiday has collected around 4.1 crore in Mumbai, 2.25 cr from Delhi/UP, 85 lakhs from Rajasthan and 1.09 crore from East Punjab. Circuits like Mysore and West Bengal, where content-oriented ‘class / multiplex’ films do well, have under-performed big-time. Bihar, C.P Berar and C.I were decent.
On Saturday, the morning shows were around the same level as Friday at most places, but evening and night shows will decide the fate of Holiday. Unless the film shows growth in the range of 15-20%, it’ll be an uphill task for the film to recover its costs.

This is really dissapointing. These Arjun kapoors, Ranveer singhs are registering bigger numbers than Akshay kumar. Time to write him off. Sorry but fact.

Yes, music is poor that’s why it affected the collection. Had they roped in Sajid-Wajid or AR Rahman than it would have been a different story. Last films that released after IPL such as Ready, Rowdy Rathore, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani had chartbuster songs so it helped them to open big.

Still waiting for the day when in Bollywood, films will work on their merits rather than on the stardom of lead actor. In Hollywood, the stardom doesn’t matter. The biggest stars like Will Smith delivered a disaster like After Earth simply because movie didn’t work, same Johnny Depp delivered disaster like The Lone Ranger, and more but here in Bollywood even nonsens films make money because of stardom and immature people praise it and consider it as the standard of judging a movie which is wrong.
we need alot of saleable and dependable stars not just 4-5, then only our industry can go forward. we need to take more risks and stop making sole masala films just for the sake of making money. now films are judged on the basis of if they made 100 cr or 200 cr, where have we reached ??
Holiday was again a remake but the difference was it was a sensible remake like ghajini,agneepath etc. Yes it was slow and dragging but it had its moments too.
We don’t care about Reliance figures but it is becoming consistent.Every Akshay sir film you give boi figures.Did you give boi collections for Krrish3 before giving producers own?
Actors especially Super stars should ovaid remakes coz the audiance are not more interested.
we all remember what happened to Jai Ho and Zanjeer,Himatwalla (although Ajey’s performance was outstanding but the editing and Sajid was suck) .
Ajey sir decided to never do remakes again as he told that Prephu Deva who approached a remake before he offer new script.

With overall budget of 75 crores, very poor opening collection. Wait for Kick Hurricane. You will know what is call box office opening. Only 1 Tiger.

@aeyy, buddy ! indicine has used producers figures for all movies even chennai express,ek tha tiger and dhoom 3, not just Krrish 3. wait for reliance official figures, which will be almost the same as taran adarsh. i think the fig is somewhere around 12+ cr. 15 cr opening would have been fantastic but its ok considering the promotions weren’t done much.
And by the way,Holiday is doing fantastic in UAE-GCC,pakistan,nepal.It may turn out to be Akshay highest grosser there.Fingers crossed.
@aeeyy, we have decided not to use producers figures for any film. We get figures from more than 60 theatres now and also from distributors. So we post our own estimates. Believe the figures if you want to or don’t. Stop complaining. 11.6 or 12, not much difference in there. Its not like 12 is record-breaking.
Last year post Ipl Ranbir film took 19 crore 1st day….. Really poor performance by Flopking Akshay…And some Akki fans are comparing this crap to ALl Time Blockbuster Ghazini. Aamir ke saath apna 2 futiya star ko compare na karo toh hi behtaar…

I am expecting a 12+ cr. today and 38-40 cr. weekend. If Holiday manages to get 65 cr. first week then it is sure life time will be 85-90 cr. If we look at the performance of akshay’s last few release, then it is very good indeed. Akshay needs to restore his faith among ticket paying public. Should stop doing those substandard movies. His next Its entertainment looks like another himmatwala. New actors like Ranveer, arjun, tiger, varun and siddrath are doing good, so it is the best time for akshay to increase his exclusivity, not sign movies left and right.

places which showed low collections yesterday will pick up today surely. but the territories where collections were good/decent yesterday will show a minimal drop today so I think Sat will be around 12-12.5! it can be even more cause adv bookings in metros for evening/night shows is good!
Best filim after 3 idiots,filim get great collection like queen and omg.akshays star power slighltly declined,i accept that fact,but holiday help him to overcome that.his perfomance in holiday is just outstanding,no one can match this.vijay do best perfomence in thuppakki,but akshay do slight better than vijay.
In either case, Akshay’s past few films have failed to open huge or even big. Too many films, selection of poor scripts, overdose of masala genre, have hurt Akshay’s stardom.
Below avg collection. But movie picked up well in evening shows on friday, i hope weekend will be around 40cr, 100cr is looking tough but most important is that movie won’t be a losing proposal. Fingers crossed.
It’s true that opening of holiday in west bengal is disappointing but the wom is good to v.good even here.the Saturday evening shows r registering much better occupancy and it will emerge a hit even in w.b.w
