Akshay Kumar’s Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has collected Rs 11.48 crore on its opening day at the domestic box office. The Friday collections are decent considering the poor pre-release buzz with both the trailer and music failing to excite the audience.
However, in comparison to the opening day occupancy of other ‘Post-IPL’ releases in the last few years, Holiday has under-performed. Also, the opening is lower than films like Gunday and 2 States, which featured stars who are yet to firmly establish themselves in the industry and also released on fewer screens.
Holiday has collected around 4.1 crore in Mumbai, 2.25 cr from Delhi/UP, 85 lakhs from Rajasthan and 1.09 crore from East Punjab. Circuits like Mysore and West Bengal, where content-oriented ‘class / multiplex’ films do well, have under-performed big-time. Bihar, C.P Berar and C.I were decent.
On Saturday, the morning shows were around the same level as Friday at most places, but evening and night shows will decide the fate of Holiday. Unless the film shows growth in the range of 15-20%, it’ll be an uphill task for the film to recover its costs.

@Aeeyy, look, we report facts here. There is not an iota of biasness towards any star. If Akshay films were doing well or would go on to be blockbusters, we’d be happier than you. The industry needs bankable superstars who can compete for records. If Akshay films break records.. we get more traffic and we can write more articles. But if his films are under-performing, we got to report the same.
A lot of people here think, we give more importance to Khan related articles. That might be true. But thats not because we have extra liking towards them, but it gets us more traffic, readers are interested in reading Khan related articles. Simple as that. Case of demand and supply.
Nice answere by indicine. For akshay fans sake publish 13 cr. other fans will not complain. 13 cr will be still very less considering today’s market and large no of screens. Grand masti 13 cr on 1800 screen (which released last year) and gunday 14 cr on 2800 screen explained everything about today’s market. Now agree that akshay lost his superstardom and here on don’t include in top 5 actors. Ranbeer is definitely made d place. Even besharam flopped badly but opened huge in the morning show. Even second highest opener in Punjab territory. Give credit whoever deserved. Just don’t go with past glory or fans request. Top five superstar now

@Aeeyy how buzz creates? Since akshay in the movie automatically buzz won’t generate. Even Amir srks small teaser of the movies lot of buzz. It’s only because of their stardom. Holiday trailor released 2 months back but people didn’t have interest since Akki sonakshi in lead. Makers did everything but could not translate into hype. This is difference betn khans hritik and akshay.
Ayeey dont mess with Indicine they showing their own figures and i always Believe in indicine figure becoz taran aadarsh giving 1 or 2 cr more and Box office giving 3-4cr less so beleive in indicine and blame your akki to not even cross 15cr and you all akki fans Says that it will break Ett,Ce,k3,D3 record dont dream guys its neven happend.
Akshay is now like a Salman of pre 2010 period. 3 or 4 down the line his film would do supeb business like Salman’s has done for past 3 years. Then his fans would say he is the biggest star ever. So dont worry Akshay fans, ur time would possibly come later. Both Salman and Akshay are stars with lot of fans but with zero consistency.

@aeeyy. Dont worry dude, be happy. Holiday had done 11.10 crs business on friday. So Akshay had payed 2 crs to Taran Adarsh and 1.50 crs to Indicine team. If u have 50 lakhs to pay to Indicine team then problem would be sorted. Seeing u cry it reminds of 5 year kid cryng for Ice Cream. Indicine team as good father explaining to u that they didnt got 50 lakhs to put extra figure
@indicine we all know you give more importance to Khans because of traffic.No problem if you don’t give importance to Akshay sir because his films don’t do well of late.

But what I’m saying is why always you report less collections for Akshay as compared to others and for other stars the same with the *others*
Anyway hoping Holiday become a hit and Akshay move from rough patches.

by the way i still think that it can put 45 crs weekend… today it may be jumb by 1tleast 30-40% and i see a huge growth on sunday too… but the fact is whatever growth it is going to achieve its all due to content and not due to star power of akki… we already saw the akki star power with 11.5 crs first day collection which is below than arjun kapoor starrer 2 states…. good luck to holiday team…
I watched the movie today….Only one word “OUTSTANDING” You will laugh+you will be thrilled…. A complete blend of Entertainment….smart script..perfect screenplay and brilliant performances. Though the romantic angle at some point and some songs seem forcible..but these minor things does not make any impact due to the brilliant screenplay.I could n’t even realise the movie is this long. it never irritates you. The screenplay keeps you engaged and sit at the edge of your seat to think what will happen next….And Finally A GRAND SALUTE to our Indian Army…..They are the true Hero.
Gonna watch it again tomorrow….

Look at the haters, one actor’s movie underperform n they are spreading negativity about other actors too. I wonder where all these guys during Paheli, Billu, Swades & Epic failure Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke (released in 2004 with 40 lakhs lifetime collection). Such insecure idiots instead of believing their favorite they believe more in bringing down other stars !!!!!!!!!!

@hrithik Those movies u listed was released at the time when SRK was ruling bollywood and was number 1 or 2 star…………………..YLJK released in 2004, this was a shelved movie made 10 yrs earlier and only put in theaters to bank on the stardom of SRK, SRK himself stated that he did not support the movie and his voice was dubbed by someone else, this movie got no promotions, was shelved and not supported by SRK,so u hater, no one went to see it, however disasters/flops like Marigold, God Tussi Great Ho, London Dreams, Salam e Ishq,Yuraaj, Main Aur Mrs Khanna were well promoted and supported by Salman but still bombed! Yeh and Swades was released in 2004 when SRK was Number 1 star that year with Veer Zara and Main Ho Na becoming 1st and 2nd highest grossers with Veer Zara also No1 oversees, so flop Swades did not affect him, however it won him best actor and many people loved the movie afterwards,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Phaheli realesed in 2005 when SRK was No 1 star in bollywood, movie was different and boring so it flopped but it did NOT affect his stardom as his two movies which realeased the following year i.e. Don and KANK got excellent/bumper openings with Don demolishing ur lallu Janneman which it clashed with! Now to Billu, that was Irfan Khan movie, with supporting performance by SRK, so that movie does NOT count……………..just like Bhagbhan is Big B movie, NOT Salman (he was supporting), also billu released in 2009, SRK just came from 3 back to back BLOCKBUSTERS!, so at that time he was fighting for number 1 with Aamir and Akshay whilst lallu was giving flop and disasters left and right, so dont come here and quote foolishly becuz u look like a moron!

Holiday is close to 56+ crore in its first five days. And going by the trend it will reach 65-70 crore after 1st week. Holiday is really a nice movie. If he sensibly makes movies and chooses good director and script he will once again rise to his peaks. But you see just after this a dull movie like “Its Entertainment” is coming. Anyway it should easily cross 100+ crore . We have to see wether it becomes top grosser of 2014 till date.
