Shahrukh Khan’s Diwali release ‘Happy New Year’ has gone past Salman Khan’s ‘Jai Ho’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Holiday – A Solider Is Never Off Duty’ in less than 4 days since its theatrical release on October 24. The film has also gone past Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Ra.One and Don 2 to become SRK’s 2nd biggest grosser (behind Chennai Express – 227 cr)
Released on 5000 screens across the country, ‘Happy New Year’ took advantage of the big festive period and collected Rs 44.97 crore on its opening day – which is higher than the lifetime business of several medium budget films released this year – Finding Fanny, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Hasee Toh Phasee were swept away in under a day.
In two days, the film went past decent grossers like Haider, Main Tera Hero, Heropanti, Humshakals, Entertainment and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania.
In its first weekend (3 days), even bigger films like Gunday, 2 States and Ek Villain were surpassed. And now on the 4th day of its release, Salman Khan’s Jai Ho (113 crore) and Akshay Kumar’s Holiday (114 cr) have been beaten.
Talking about the 4th day business of the film, there has been a lot of negativity over the drop on Monday – both in the comments section of our website and on social media websites like Twitter and Facebook. While the trend isn’t great, the Monday collections of Happy New Year is better than Chennai Express (12.72 cr) and Kick (14.41 cr during pre-Eid period) and the second best Monday of 2014 – only behind Bang Bang which collected 15.36 crore on a holiday!
One more stat – the first Monday collections of Happy New Year is higher than the opening day business of Humshakals, 2 States, Holiday and Entertainment, and a little lower than huge openers like Gunday, Ek Villain and Jai Ho!
Clearly, the collections are still good and the film has every chance of crossing the 200 crore mark. A lot would depend on how well it holds in the next two days and what sort of growth it can show in the coming weekend.
hny will definitely emerge a blockbuster.i agree it has lot of flaws but it is still a gd paisa vasool entertainer.btw hny marks the 11th consecutive hit of srk that includes 4 huge blockbusters and one cult film.also srk has tried around 6 genres in these 11 films thus making this achievement even more special

i feel bad for srk as he is the most targeted star in the bollywood websites.i hv nvr seen a star getting bashed for giving back to back hits and suerhit which srk hd to face.i remember during jthj time haters behaved as if jthj is some aag or josh.jthj got 3+ critic rating,7+ imdb rating,clean hit status in india despite clash abd blockbuster status in overseas.yet it was heavily bashed for god knows which reasons.i really hope that even srks biggest enemy doesnt hv to face such criticism

Also this is just a 50-55% drop from Sunday and Monday is a working day which is not bad just that expectations are high from the film.
The truth is that trend is not strong, so it will be a wait and watch situation if the film can cross 200cr or not and for that it needs atleast a 34 cr over its remaining 3 days and a good second weekend!

The film would break kick’s record comfortably.The only problem with the film is it was expected to collect in the same range as it collected on its 1st day which was quite difficult since the 1st day collection was huge but still the wom is positive and the Monday collections are good if not excellent

Oh no.15 crores monday of our kings movie hny is good compared to chennai express but chennai express also had independence day holiday in 1st week and collection increased there but hny has no chance of increase in collection coz there is no holiday now before sunday
I hope and wish this is the last time srk is working with that fat lady and also wish that she never gets an opportunity to make movie again. She should be barred.
BTW shahrukh will b back with a good movie next year. Manish sharma is a very good director. Fan should be a movie which 90’s wale srk fans will love.

Till Thursday, it should cross the 160 cr mark if it has to touch the magical figure of 250 cr. If first week collections will be less than or equal to 150 cr, then HNY will finish its lifetime somewhere around the collections of CE/Kick.
Our king did mistake by releasing hny post diwali and pre diwali release would have been better coz then our king would have got holidays in 1st week but our king focused on opening weekend only
By fack collections it could have done in 2 days itself naa… Why lal mirchi took 4 days??? Indicine mark my words hyn can’t even cross 175 Cr… Lol in nizam didn’t even release in 143 theatres and collected 1.43 Cr on day 1??? This is very harmful for bollywood. Kick monday collection as per trade is 13.16cr and as per producer 14.41cr . Happy new year monday collection as per trade is 12.25cr then how the producer figure is more than the kicks collection. This shows how some selfish actors are doing anything bad to create records .. Shame.

Indicine is trying to support HNY as much as possible. There was huge negativity at the time of Bang Bang too, but Indicine never tried to protect it from negative comments.
And now they are comparing HNY with Jai Ho, a film released on a non holiday, with Salman as the ONLY plus point. Unknown heroine, poor trailer, poor production values and poor songs.
Whatever Jai Ho earned, it was due to Salman and ONLY Salman.
Can you say a similar thing for HNY? HNY Had Deepika, HUGE promotion, holiday and had every benefit that Jai Ho did not have.

I loved the movie nd i don’t know why some spend their whole life to hate someone. To hate someone is itself a punishment. I feel pity haters spend most of their time to write bad about srk. But srk is greatly blessed by god nd we all srk fans love him too much.
