Many of our readers have been asking for this comparison, so here we go. A comparison between the last ‘non-festive’ release of the three Khans – Aamir’s Talaash (2012), Salman’s Jai Ho (2014) and Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN that has just released last weekend.
None of the three movies have fared well at the box office, highlighting the importance of Eid, Diwali and Christmas for the Khans.
Now that they’ve crossed 50, for the Khans to sustain their super-stardom and prolong their careers in the industry, two things will be very important – films with good content and the most crucial thing could be to get the big festive weekends. Because it’s only during these weekends when the big 250 – 300 grossers come.
Aamir currently has a stronghold over Christmas, Salman has made the Eid weekend his own and the two are currently dominating the industry with major 300 crore grossers.
Shah Rukh has slipped in India with Dilwale and FAN. But it’ll be a matter of one film that strikes gold at the box office. A universal success like Bajrangi Bhaijaan or PK is what he needs and it has to come quickly.
Interestingly, while Aamir and Salman’s career has been filled with ups and downs, the feeling of not dominating the industry is something that’s new for Shah Rukh. More so after FAN, because the gap between him and the Top 2 in India has widened.
So it’ll be interesting to see how he handles it. The big question will be, if he can climb the ladder to the top again. Especially at the domestic (India) box office, because overseas Shah Rukh is still the biggest crowd puller.

Only akshay is the man who give hit in non holiday
opening was great for jai ho fan and tallash considering non holidays u can,t give 30cr opening on non holifay release unless it is christmas eid or diwali and these films did not find acceptance with movie goers and pls note the fact Ready was blockbuster on non holiday and it clicked with audience unlike jai ho but even considering non holiday it had very good opening which speaks the stardom of KHANS.

@Sultan, one review decides content? Oh My God got 2 stars from critics, but audience loved it. Whether the content is good or not, it’s for the audience to decide.
Fan and Talaash are offbeat films, Jai Ho is commercial entertainer, there is no comparision. If Dilwale had solo release, it would have easily out grossed PRDP.
Salman will atruggle more, as he is not much of an actor. Aamir will suffer least, because he is on another level than the two others in the acting department. Only Ajay Devgan can compare with him in the last 20 years, when it comes to acting.
Speaks volume about indian cinegoers when someone of the calibre of Ajay has to do nonsense movies to succeed, and can’t do it on his acting talent alone.
Of course Irrfan is in a class of his own, but he is not a commercial star.
But one thing is proved now the biggest superstar is Holidays even Ajay Devgan give 32cr opening on holiday
If SRK really want Raees to work at box office release it on Eid otherwise one more flop in line and shifting to another date also give bad vibes to audience about quality of movie
SRK If you believe in own product just released it on Eid don’t care about Sultan no one is bigger superstar then holidays

Hello all respected admins at indicine and fellow commenters. It is a high time that we appreciate good work of any Bollywood actor. If we kept pulling legs of each others favourite star and create negativities then trust me it will destroy Bollywood. Already Hollywood has taken over all Bolly releases this year PLUS none of this year releases was all India hit. poor distributors are suffering. So please. SRK did a fab job in Fan so at least stop Hatred and appreciate quality cinema

No wonder if Akshay does 1 film an year he wud be on the moon.
Fan has seen a big drop in collections on Monday with collections in the 5.75 crore crore nett range. The drop is 70% from day one but day one was a holiday . If we take the fair value of day one the drop is around 60% which is still too high.
This was always going to be the problem with film unless the content worked all over. The opening which the film took of was far too high for this type of film. If a film is nearing 20 crore nett on day one then the content and story telling has to be such that appeals all over.
Despite the big drop, the film is still commercially safe as will go into the black and with Yash Raj Films holding all rights there is no one in the chain to lose any money but eventually the film content has not found acceptance and the theatrical business will not go very far. The first four day business is around 57.75 crore nett and the first week will probably close somewhere around 70 crore nett mark.

@indicine, acc to BOI, despite under-performing, FAN is still a safe venture for YRF & SRK.
Also, when it’s a given that SRK does not charge for his movies, why have you ‘assumed’ the Satellite rights as the lead actor’s fee when it’s a given fact that he would only have a chunk from the profit & not charge any fee. Also SRK himself is a co-produced of the movie, so why this assumption ?

@Kaali, it’s a failure. Trade knows, one site defending it won’t change perception. Same trend as Brothers, almost the same costs too – i.e without SRK getting a rupee for the film. His market value is 40 crore easily.
As far as I am concerned Jai Ho budget was around 60 Crores and it was sold to distributors with a price of 90 Crores.

@Indicine from where you get all these wrong information about Jai Ho budget, just try to proof Srk is best in front of Salman you are this cheep things. According to Wikipedia Jai Ho budget is 65cr not 110cr.

Only Salman & Remake factors were in JH favor rest all negative still highest weekend. FAN earned more than Jai Ho on opening but if you take inflation of ticket prices and gap for 2.3 years this should be equal or less of Jai Ho opening, I am sure FAN is not gonna reach first week collections neither lifetime collections in India !!!!!!! This clearly shows who is bigger among two Khans, Salman’s worst is ahead of Srk’s one of the best !!!!!!!!!
Indicine ,Jai ho is not a non -holiday release.it came on republic day weekend.so don’t compare jai ho with these two.
@Prashant, it got no advantage of holiday because Republic Day was on Sunday. FAN in fact has two partial holidays in first week – Ram Navami on Day 1 (holiday across major states where films do good business) and today for Mahavir Jayanti.

Without criticizing any of khans … Lets treat a movie as a movie only not wars … I am okay as long as any of khans criticized based on the Movie scripts they choose … lets keep the politicians & political statements aside … Since the only people who are gaining from all these is communal minds !
Heard a lot about Jai Ho, failing at the Boxoffice, Wat went wrong is selling the movie to EROS at very high price of Rs.110 crs by Sohail Khan films, makers made huge table profit but further distributors suffers, then ticket prices made lower at the request of Salman Khan as he wanted to reach the msg of the movie to maximum viewers, which happened to some extent, refer footfalls, I think with ticket prices in sync to that of earlier releases can easily fetched at least Rs.140 crs (bare minimum) with bulk coming from multiplexes in 1st week. Even if it would have been sold to EROS around 80 crs it would have been win win situation for all. Yet, I find a unique similarity in Sach Bharat Abhijaan where one nominates further 9 persons, may b the main moto of Salman Khan got fulfilled as the message of the movie carried forward.
