The writing is on the wall for Shah Rukh Khan’s FAN, as the superstar, who has never delivered a outright flop after Paheli in 2005 – is facing his first rejection in more than a decade.
When a film featuring a top superstar like SRK releases, it comes with a minimum guarantee. In today’s times, the very least you can expect is a 100 crore grosser, but FAN will fall well short of that number and could finish with lifetime domestic business of around 85-90 crore.
The trend is quite similar to Akshay Kumar’s Brothers last year. That film had also collected Rs 52 crore in its first weekend, but held on a little more strongly on Monday with collections of Rs 6.23 crore. Brothers finished with lifetime business of Rs 82 crore.
The reason for the poor performance of the film is hard to comprehend right now, because FAN has been universally rejected. Even Shah Rukh’s West Bengal stronghold has loosened because the film has dropped even at his best circuit – where Dilwale was outstanding for nearly two weeks.
The box office rejection of the film is even more shocking when you consider the fact that FAN is one of the most critically acclaimed films of the year after Neerja and Airlift. Positive reviews from critics has not convinced the audience to go watch the film in theatre.
Like we reported yesterday, the 2nd week collections of ‘The Jungle Book’ are now on par with the first week collections of FAN and some exhibitors have increased the shows of the Hollywood film.
The silver lining for Shah Rukh Khan and FAN is the kind of opening the film took last Friday. The fan-base that he has earned over the years through his films, talent and hard work, will always be with him. But it’s the ‘trust factor’ with the neutral audience that has taken a beating in the last couple of years, and it’s that trust that he needs to earn back.
The actor now needs a good film that will find universal acceptance. A film that not only opens well, but has a long and successful word-of-mouth run. And he needs it as quickly as his next release – Raees.

Everyone say that Jai Ho was a failure in BO, yes it is not get what we expect from Salma movie collection wise and the reason is Salman kept the Ticket price low b/c he want to everyone watch this movie b/c of the msg in it, I saw his video interview where he accept this. “Failures are part of life” and SRK is at that stage of career(almost 50 where downward trend starts) where 2,3 more failures will take him to end of his career.Still I feel that he has one of the best line up of the movies .One thing is good that he is working with all good and talented directors.There isn’t even a single bad director in his next line up.RAEES fate has become more important than before.Its matter of one universally accepted film that will take him back to his position.But satisfied with the openings of both dilwale and FAN.both took fair enough start ,and then bad trend.This shows that his fan base is intact but directors aren’t delivering for general audience.No matter how his movies fare at BO I still love him and will love him till my last breath??????

The hatred spewed out by SRK fans against the other actors is like nothing I have ever seen, so they ate going to reap their rewards.

After jai ho’s semi hit success, srk fan bashed saying Salman can’t deliver even a hit without eid(festive release). Now, they got their answer with fan(movie).
