A decision has been taken to exclusively screen Abhishek Chaubey’s controversial film ‘Udta Punjab’ to filmmaker Shyam Benegal, who heads the central government’s censor board revamp committee.
The decision comes after filmmaker Anurag Kashyap decided to make the issue public by taking the social and mainstream media route. In a series of tweets, Kashyap slammed the board for its issues with the film.
Benegal has said he would be able to comment on the controversy once he watches the movie.
“I don’t know the actual matter as I have not seen the film. I will see it tomorrow and then only I can say something. Before that, it is not fair on my part to comment or say anything on it” Benegal was quoted as saying by PTI.
The Censor Board of Film Certification has raised certain objections to the Shahid Kapoor - Alia Bhatt – Kareena Kapoor Khan film after references were made to the drug addiction issue in Punjab.

Udta punjab is a film looks like a game changer in bollywood. But why idiots like chief of CBFT pahlaj nihalani has creat a problem to pass the movie. Simply give a movie ‘A’ certificate and pass it. This idiot pahlaj nihalani is not a suitable person for chief of cbft. There is need of person who can understand the film and have knowledge of film making in CBFT.
And those political partys who are trying to stop a movie to get certificate are actually a guilty for drug trafficking.
So many unnecessary comments on such serious issue. Completely disappointed.
