Akshay Kumar’s Entertainment has collected Rs 7 crore on Monday, which is the 4th highest Monday collections of 2014 behind films like Kick (14.41 cr), Jai Ho (9.46 cr) and Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty (7.89 cr).
In the last few years, Akshay films, apart from OMG: Oh My God and Special 26, have generally failed to hold up well on its first weekday. 2014 has been different. His films have struggled to open well, but the Monday-drops have been lower than most other films this year.
However, quite a films in the last few months that have held up well on Monday but have shown significant drop in business on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Like we mentioned in our Saturday report, if Entertainment manages to hold up above the 5.5 crore mark over the next 3 days, it will still get a decent number of shows this weekend when Singham Returns releases in theatres. The word-of-mouth is good and the family audience, who usually tend to avoid violent action films, might opt for Entertainment over a film like Singham Returns.
Entertainment is likely to collect 60-61 crore in its first week at the domestic box office. Second weekend business will decide its fate. With one open week or a better release date, Entertainment had the potential to be a much bigger success.
