Ek Villain First Day Collections: Almost beats Salman Khan’s Jai Ho!

The magic of Mohit Suri, chartbuster music, the presence of Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Ritiesh Deshmukh almost did the impossible on its opening day at the box office.

Released on 35-40% lower number of screens as compared to Salman Khan’s Jai Ho, Ek Villain has collected Rs 16-17 crore on its first day at the domestic box office, falling about 5-8% lower than Jai Ho which collected Rs 17.38 crore on its opening day.

Ek Villain was better than Jai Ho at multiplexes and several circuits including Mysore and West Bengal.

Considering the star-cast of the film, the opening is earth-shattering – probably the best ever start for a film starring unestablished stars. Sidharth Malhotra has only appeared in 2 films so far, but is quickly emerging as one of the most promising stars in the industry. Shraddha Kapoor too was only two films old before Ek Villain.

The largest share of credit will, quite obviously, go to the director of Ek Villain.. Mohit Suri, who has delivered several box office hits in the past, but so far wasn’t recognised as one of the top directors in the industry. Ek Villain will put him in the A-list category of directors.

On Saturday, the film has started equally well at most centres, but there could be a slight drop in business as the film was running to 80 / 90 / 100 percent occupancy noon onwards.

Ek Villain should easily beat the first weekend business of Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty, Gunday and 2 States. It would be a massive achievement if it manages to collect more than 20 crore on Sunday – something that no film without the presence of the Top 5 stars (Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor) has managed to do.

  • Ek Villain proves that audience wants good films even if it stars lesser known actors. A big star may manage to get a good opening for his film but if the film isn’t interesting then people will reject it…

  • Sid’s non holiday release (2300 screens) beats our megastar akki’s post ipl release holiday… And where are our bhojpurians navinbar khulli n sachin 25 n biggest bhojpuri JS who thinks bhabhi is a superstar even kid Sid’s movie beat jai ho and they were saying no one can touch jai ho…hahahaha ek villain 17 cr flop ho 17.38 cr hahahaha it’s clear bhai was nothing just eid saved him. SRK the king of Bollywood

  • Congrats Siddarth, Ritesh and Shraddha!!1 Mohit Suri as well!!
@Sakhi, the business of Ek Villain might almost touch that of Jai Ho but it has certainly broken the records of collections of Paglapur’s Thakur’s Holiday Releases like Ratoon Point One (Thakur+Kareena+Arjun+Rajni+Sanjay Dutt+PC) , Con 2 (Thakur+PC+Kunal Kapoor+Boman+Farhan+Duggu) and Jab Tak Hai Mojo (Thakur+KAt+Anushka+Yash Chopra+Gulzar+AR Rahman) except for Crappy Express.
Now, rant that Jai Ho was released in more screens. It was non holiday release with comparatively lower ticket price. So, screen numbers hardly helped. Wait for KICK. You will be given a big KICK in your back.

  • Bhai ki JAI HO (4000 + screens) First Day = 16.75

Baby Sid ki EK VILLAIN (2300 + screens) First Day = Almost same

Bhai is a real crowd puller. New Babies r still long way to break Bhais record. lolz

    Bhai Rocks Haters Shocks

Well done SID & Ritesh. 1 Solid Kick from Sid & 1 Solid Punch from Ritesh or Bhai Ban gay GAJNI. Lolz Tere Naam……………………….. Dont Worry Bhai EID is coming u will Bang Back coz All Hit Formulas, Remake of Blockbuster Movie, Bundle of Loads of Copy Paste from Hollywood Blockbusters, Nargis Fakhri’s Item Song, Yoyo Honey Sing’s help no one can stops u. All ingredients are there. U will rock for sure. Nothing to worry.

  • Every one talking about siddarth but fail to realize that it is ritesh deskmukh performance that is creating wonders to this movie!!. You can easily see king SRK roles of baaziger and Dar in his acting. This movie deserves 100 cross and first blockbuster off 2014. It is such a shame to Salman and akshay kumar films. However Salman add usual copies another telugu hit movie kick by giving more glamour to pull north Indians but definitely will not break his own ek tha tiger record because it will not collect good collections down south add they already have seen this movie long long ago!!!!

  • So it has beaten all akshay films and all srk films except ce but indicine don’t say it they are against biggest superstar of this generation salman khan

  • Even Salman khan’s Dabangg, Ready, Bodyguard, Ek tha Tiger had chartbuster music, Super trailer etc. So that means without these Salman could only give Jai ho, Thanks to previous blockbusters and 1 year break, if not Jai ho woudn’t even touch 12 crs.

  • Stud- ra.one first day 18 cr. Jthj second day 19 cr… Call me when sid achieves any of these two records

  • Kick will be a 300 crore blockbuster, better worry about HNY which will struggle to beat Ready. Srk will be kicked this year too LOL

  • Although Ek villian has managed to get 16-16.5cr on its opening day,it is by far the best opening day for a upcoming hero starrer film in terms of its screens count.Though JaiHo still tops the list of highest film & opening day records of 2014.But sincerely admitting the fact that it has simply ripped off the opening day of the films of the global star of Indian cinema except his last year’s Eid release as his each & every film in the recent 4 -5 years were released during festivals that too with huge screens count in comparison to that of Ek villian.Aleast Salman has 17.25cr of JaiHo,19.21cr of Dabangg2,21.25cr of Bodyguard & 30.50cr of Ek Tha Tiger but what does our global star has got besides 29.30cr of Ch.Express …… Babaji ka Thulluuuuuuuu !

  • Anand – ra.one first day – 18 cr
Second day – 25 call me when sid breaks these records and how flop ho is non holiday if republic day falling on sunday makes it on holiday than don 2 is also non holiday release

  • Ritesh is truly underated, his film grand masti did 100cr, humshakals open better than holiday n now ek villen. Sid last film can’t did 16cr weekned despite kjo. Those who watch ek villen only praise ritesh n it will be game changer for him

  • It seems sidharth’s star power is almostequal to salman may be higher if it cross holiday release.flop.ho and definitely higher than flop kumar and multiactor film or hero of talash amir, lol.their fate is now a days totally depends upon SRK’S MADE YRF .LOL.

  • @haters look at the Last line of Article Indicine mention the names of Top 5 Stars. Just ChEck the order of 5 Top stars according to Indicine. Lolzzzzz RIP Haters

  • @vikram: Ra.One 18 crores? LOL first day was 14.63 cr ( hindi version). ETT first day: 32.92, Bodyguard: 21.5 crores, Dabangg 2 (non holiday)- 19.75 cr! now call me when Sid achieves these records & btw if Sid is such a superstar, then why did Hasee toh Phasee open so low? just 4 crores?

  • Stud- okay first stop manipulating figures… Boi figures for ra.one n producers figures for ett,bg n dabangg 2 wow… ra.one’s first day was diwali day so figures were meant to be down… What can u say about second day of ra.one it collected 25 cr smashing highest single day record of bodyguard

  • Stud-dabangg 2 in 3600 screens 19 cr… So villain in 2300 screens 17 cr… You’re making a fool of yourself only
By comparing ett which released on independence day to non holiday release ek villain

  • films opening wikend will be huge but monday onwards film will fall flat because audience didn’t like the film its collections Is due all hype surrounding the movie

  • agreed. Sid’s film has beaten opening collections of all SRK films except CE. but hav you noticed sid’s movie’s “opening day” has beaten almost all sakku’s movies’ “lifetime collections” before dabangg and wanted ?

  • Ye lamhe hai judaai ke life time collection 40 lacks and ek villain first show collection 5 time more than our global gadha movie

  • Ek Villain had an excellent first day. The film opened to good responses and in fact competed stiffly with Jai Ho‘s opening which has been so far the highest opening collections at the domestic box office this year with a magnanimous 17.50 crores. According to early estimates, the film collected 16.72 crores at the domestic box office which is humongous number for a film of this scale.

With a screen count of 2500 as opposed to Jai Ho‘s 4500, Ek Villain still managed to compete with Jai Ho‘s opening day collections. Starring Shraddha Kapoor, Sidharth Malhotra and Riteish Deshmukh in lead roles, the film received massive responses in Mumbai as the afternoon and evening shows were housefull.

The thriller drama with its excellent music had already created much buzz and after receiving smashing critical response, the Mohit Suri film is all set to rattle the box office with some good numbers. Already after challenging Jai Ho as the Highest opener, Ek Villain is expected to pick up even more over the weekend emerging as a record smasher of sorts.

  • siddhart is new emerging star and he goinnnnnng to rock the bollywood like amitabh 6.2 height good looking face cuts youth look guy and oof course dream boy of soo many girls he will occupy top position in bollywood

  • It is only ritesh deshmukh in the film who left the film on his shoulder alone. he steals the show, i watched this movie only for his fabulous performance.
