Answer: In the last 4 years or so, Ek Tha Tiger had the highest opening day occupancy, which is comparable to Happy New Year, but Ek Tha Tiger was little ahead occupancy-wise.
Dhoom 3 would have surpassed Ek Tha Tiger, but couldn’t because it released on a non-holiday. Amongst non-holiday releases, Dhoom 3 is way ahead of the rest since 2010.
Released on 3300 screens, Ek Tha Tiger collected 32.92 crore on its opening day (August 15 2012), a record that was broken by Chennai Express only by a few lakhs, a year later during Eid.
2014 releases, Happy New Year had the highest opening day occupancy, followed by Singham Returns, Bang Bang, Kick and Ek Villain.

remember ett was also pre eid movie on 15 th august holiday release so if it was released on eid it did 36 crore opening possible.

FoxStar’s marketing strategy for Bang Bang was really pathetic.First they tried copying D3’s strategy but later realised that is not gonna work,hence released the trailer 2-3 days before the release,sent hrithik to bigg boss after the release but it was too late..
TV today is an important source to spread your film to the common people.
I did’nt saw a news channel where the HNY team was’nt there..

@babaji told you at the time of bang bang .. if the movie under performed .. the marketing/promotion had to be blamed big time, the biggest mistake was releasing the trailer just days before the movie release.

its proved once again salman is the biggest crowd puller after ett he never gets that holiday or director or promotions of movie.still no problemme next year he will create 50cr with huge promotions as prdp has huge chance to collect 50cr if bajrangi bhaijaan will not get direct holiday but i can bet on this that prdp will surely break hnt records.
