Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale performed well overseas, but the film was way below-the-mark at the domestic box office as it finished with lifetime business of Rs 148 crore.
Distributors suffered huge losses as the film was expected to collect more than Rs 250 crore in India. Even in the worst case scenario, not many expected the SRK-Kajol starrer to collect less than Rs 180 – 200 crore.
Now, in what is being seen as an unprecedented move, Shah Rukh has refunded 50% of the losses that distributors suffered over the film.
Only Tamil superstar Rajnikanth, has in the past, refunded distributors when his films have failed to cover the investment of distributors.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted “Shah Rukh Khan does what few would do. Refunds 50% of the loss of distributors of his Dilwale. That’s what you call a considerate producer!”
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Dilwale released with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani during the lucrative Christmas weekend.

Ra.one was magnum opus. Sadly it also lost money in India. Now it is dilwale – if SRK refunds money it is official distributors lost money.
I guess this is srks worst moment. Giving Underperformers. Never expected it will be SRK out of 3 khans to lose his stardom so fast. It is all downhill now… I always thought it will be Aamir followed by Salman and SRK will have longetivity like amitji and will continue to rock even in 70s and his 80s… Sadly Salmans rise is SRKs downfall… I think SRK has 5 more years and if fan also makes distributors lose money it will be a serious dent to srks stardom because I don’t expect raees to again recover its cost

and When VEER became disaster and everyone lost money on it. Salman sued his producer Vijay Galani for not paying his full fees bec that’s the difference between human being & being Human.
By the way for your information, SRK made more profit on Dilwale than Chennai Express .

MD will be much bigger blockbuster than Loltan. Loltan will find it impossible to be hit against clash. Selman is yet to give a flop after 2009? Then what is veer and jai ho? Both are disasters.

I believe this to be nothing more than a PR exercise. Srk has good relations with top media houses and is friendly with almost everyone – that’s his skill. He is good at marketing. All these are tricks to build positivity before Sultan.
