Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale performed well overseas, but the film was way below-the-mark at the domestic box office as it finished with lifetime business of Rs 148 crore.
Distributors suffered huge losses as the film was expected to collect more than Rs 250 crore in India. Even in the worst case scenario, not many expected the SRK-Kajol starrer to collect less than Rs 180 – 200 crore.
Now, in what is being seen as an unprecedented move, Shah Rukh has refunded 50% of the losses that distributors suffered over the film.
Only Tamil superstar Rajnikanth, has in the past, refunded distributors when his films have failed to cover the investment of distributors.
Trade analyst Komal Nahta tweeted “Shah Rukh Khan does what few would do. Refunds 50% of the loss of distributors of his Dilwale. That’s what you call a considerate producer!”
Directed by Rohit Shetty, Dilwale released with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani during the lucrative Christmas weekend.
His film was a semi hit in India (and blockbuster overseas) but still he gives compensation for it… Now what about Salman for Veer and Jai Ho ?? Don’t compare a criminal with KING KHAN ! #Respect #SRKisKing

Actually their is no need for compensation from srk . Profit and loss are part of business . Distributers always cant gain profit and bear no loss for every movie .
Actually he didn’t compensate, actually distributor unable to earn that much profit what it should earn. So SRK took this step.

I think majority of ppl doesn’t understand d economics of a film, that’s why confusion s arrived.
First of fims r made on a budget but films sold on a nother price n if DAT film carries huge pre release response then some times producers sold their product into record n unrealistic prices also.
N in that way majority of big stars films r pretty safe from its first day of shoot for producers.
In 2014 jai ho made on a decent budget but so hail khan sold that film on a record price approx 130 cr , that’s why jai ho s not a failure for sohail khan but domestic distributers losses their money.
But this is also happens because distribution companies also think about unrealistic profit margin s so they brought d film with a huge landing price.
But a 116 cr nett film s still a huge grosser in Indian market. So trade cannot declare jaiho a flop . because only 5-6 films can achieve that landmark n a year

Distributers of some circuits brought d film on record film on record price but it doesn’t perform that way how it should be.but still it manages 2 became a huge grosser as per Bollywood Bo concern.
A worldwide 390cr grosser cannot be consider as a failure because only 4-5 films reach that feet.
So BOI declared it a semi hit same as jaiho.
Simple.
D problem s from a producer side a khan film s always safe n huge money spinner.
But distributes some times loss their money due 2 their policies. N that’s why khans r so big because their avg grossers r not a profitable venture for distributors.
Any day a 100 cr film s huge hit for any distributor but a 148 cr movie of SRK or Salman s doing quite a damage for them.
