Did Happy New Year beat the worldwide collection of Kick?

Q. If Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are big successes, will Salman Khan become the Amitabh Bachchan of 1970s. - Lucky (Jabalpur)

A. Most of us weren’t even around when Amitabh Bachchan was at the peak of his stardom, but what the trade pundits during that era say is, Bachchan was a one-man industry. We was way ahead of his contemporaries. Probably the best example in today’s times would be Rajnikanth. Salman is super-successful too, but he is around the same level as the other two Khans. In smaller centres, his popularity is unmatched, but in metros SRK, Aamir, Hrithik are equally or more popular.

Q. Did Happy New Year beat the worldwide collection of Kick? – Marshall

A. No, it didn’t. Happy New Year finished with worldwide gross collections of Rs 367 crore (official), while Kick did Rs 377 crore worldwide. Kick is the biggest grosser in India and worldwide. Overseas, Happy New Year is the biggest grosser. PK could surpass the business of both films.

Q. DDLJ or Hum Aapke Hain Kaun,  Which one should be called as the film of 90’s decade?  Or any other film, that makes up for it? - Junaid Bakshi

A. Hum Aapke Hain Kaun was by far the bigger grosser and blockbuster (ROI wise) at the box office. DDLJ did well in bigger cities and unlike HAHK, the SRK starrer was well received by the critics too. DDLJ gets written about more often even today, which is why it’s perceived to be the biggest hit of the 90s. At smaller centres, there is absolutely no comparison. HAHK rules.

Q. Is Salman Khan’s Kick a ‘blockbuster’ or an ‘all time blockbuster’? (Roshaan Ahmad)

A. Kick was a ‘blockbuster’ at the box office and currently the year’s biggest grosser to date.

Q. Can you make a box office prediction article of big Bollywood movies that will release in 2015, like you did for 2014? (Kailash)

A. Yes, box office prediction article for movie releases in 2015 will be out in the first week of January.

  • ddlj is third class movie if you comparing it with hahk. fools go out from ur dreamland and come in common man’s land the moral of hahk is far better than foolish ddlj.

  • @gotya SRK and most consistent? what a joke. forgot epic disasters like Asoka and paheli? even a good film like Swades flopped big time.SRK is not even feet of Salman.

  • If Jai Ho (112 crore) is a flop then what are SRK’s back to back flops like MNIK, JTHJ and don 2? And all time disaster Ra.one? SRK is not even 2% of Salman.

  • Rise of salman began after 2008 when multiplex chains where opened in smaller centres and mass centre, but as the trend suggest the downfall is eminent as southindian masala movies are not well received , kick was probably his best movie after dabangg so it did well but another bodyguard or ready will not work so next movie which can break dhoom 3 record will be dhoom 4.

  • No one is comparable to BigB of that era.He was1to 10 at that time.As for Hahk & ddlj former was considered a indian family drama later was considered a NRIcentic love drama.

  • both ddlj and hahk are popular.in metros and big cities ddlj is popular while in mass centres hahk is popular.since ddlj is more popular in metros it was written more but in mass centres they didn’t even know about ddlj but all pepoles love hahk and thats why it was still telecast nearly every weekend on tv

  • In smaller centres, his popularity is
unmatched, but in metros SRK, Aamir,
Hrithik are equally or more popular. Lol this is salman fan were they found mostly :D because salman fit in dis ppl :D
