Dangal 400 crore: First real competition from tomorrow

Aamir Khan’s Dangal will end Week 3 with net collections of Rs 360 crore at the domestic box office. The film has had a phenomenal run, but the first real speed-breaker could come with the release of the first Hindi film of 2017 – ‘Ok Jaanu’ starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor, and the Hollywood film ‘xXx: Return of the Xander’ which marks the debut of Deepika Padukone in Hollywood.

The week-wise drop for Dangal is as follows:

  • Week 1 – 197.54 crore
  • Week 2 – 115.96 crore (41.3% drop)
  • Week 3 – 46.4 crore (60% drop)

The drop from the first week to second was outstanding, as the film was helped by the Christmas – New Year holiday season. The drop from Week 2 to 3 is excellent too, and better than the best trending films of 2016.

But the hold in the fourth weekend will decide if Dangal can eventually cross the 400 crore mark or finish with lifetime business of around 380-390 crore. The response to the two new releases this week will also play a major role, because if ‘Ok Jaanu’, ‘xXx’ or one of the two releases are received well, then ‘Dangal’ will automatically become the second choice – more so for the repeat-viewing audience. Else it would once again get a open run until the release of ‘Raees’ and ‘Kaabil’ on Jan 25.

For a film that has achieved almost everything at the box office, the 400 crore mark remains the only major landmark that remains unconquered. It would need one final big push in the fourth weekend to become the first film to touch 400.

  • @7:58pm Rew1

    Lol

We forget sometimes how pathetic our greedy gobbar is that he needs 4 crapfests per yr just to match Aamirs 1 movie…!

  • If it misses out on 400cr then its no big deal just like how Dhoom 3 missed out on 300cr in 2013 bcoz if history has taught us anything then its this that only Aamir can get the job done- Thugs Of Hindostan will open up the 400cr club in 2018 guaranteed…!

  • The opening of the 400cr club if not this yr then it will finally happen on Diwali 2018 courtesy of Aamirs TOH…!

Its inevitable ppl- only Aamir opens up the big clubs

  • the very fact that @rew1 is calling akshay’s all three movies of 2016 as crap simply shows that he is just a plain hater….nothing else

  • Ab 400 cr toh sayed nahi karegi. Aamir takes one step at a time with dangal he opened the 350cr club and with Thugs of Hindustan he will open 400cr club.
@ indicine. i don’t think Ok Jaanu release is going to be any problem. Nobody is interested to watch that films except some wannabe pseudo intellectual in metros and some idiot bollywood critics who will probably give it 5* and call it the best movie of the year

  • Indicine guys are ready publishing news like “dangal failed to score only 400cr,,but they are not ready to say something like “It will srk take 5more years to make 250cr????now beating around the bush saying footfall,, get ready aamir also going slap in that way,,,, accept the fact aamir is boss then it will help to get remedy of your mental problem @indicine guys!!!

  • Wait for christmas 2018 dwarf will shatter all the previous records afterwards tingu and lallu will cry lol and will make mazak apna apna 2 together

  • @ABC abe dehaati, first learn ABC then make such ID. Yes dangal got free 3 open weeks run because when the lion roars no tiny animals like fox, rabbits, giraffe, kangaroo, cat, donkey, mouse and many more have no aukaat to come even close to him. Similarly when Megastar and baap of whole bollywood aamir khan’s movie release, forget clashing with him no one can even dare to release their movie for 3 weeks after Megastar aamir khan’s movie release as it would be suicidal to release during that time even for salman and srk. So tiny actor’s aukaatless fan, first keep all these things into consideration and then talk. Aamir is biggest supreme megastar and no one is as big as him and thats why he gets three open weeks.

  • @Yogi ha ha ha. Good joke. That moronic sequel to mahacrap ETT has no chance to come even close to dangal. Forget dangal, even 300 crores will be out of reach for TZH. Get a life moron. Aamir’s record can only be broken by aamir himself. Salman is no one in front of Aamir.

  • Love to see haters keep burning LOLOLOLzzzzzzz

When will your idol create such movie with outstanding response & records? :p

  • @Rewi1 if u are calling Airlift and Rustom craps then you don’t appreciate cinema u are just hater and someone like don’t deserve to appreciate Dangal.

  • Movies that deserve critically acclaimed hall of fame irrespective of box office performance.
    AIRLIFT
    SHIVAAY
    DANGAL

  • It will do 380+. If Christmas and new year day were not Sundays it would have easily crossed 400 crore. Still it is an unbelievable achievement.
