Chennai Express will only be the second film in the history of Indian Cinema to cross the 200 crore mark. The Shahrukh Khan starrer needs to collect just Rs 2.71 crore to join the elusive ‘200 crore club’.
With the film still going strong at the box office, history is likely to be made on Friday as the Rohit Shetty entertainer could finally go past the lifetime business of 3 Idiots (202.5 cr).
On its second Wednesday, Chennai Express collected 4.51 cr at the domestic box-office. The total net box office collections in 13 days now stands at Rs 197.29 cr. The film is likely to collect around 44.5 crore in its second week, falling just short of the 2013 record of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani which collected 46.8 crore in Week 2.
The overall record for the highest second week collections is held by 3 Idiots (Rs 56.5 cr)

@to all haters…i want to say that on 2nd weekend OUATIMD was also released and CE screens went less to just 1300(with clash)…and it is one of my fav movie till date,i m so much addicted to this movie that i can’t live a single day without watching it..! i don’t know about others,but for me it is much better than 3idiots ..nd i also know that CE does not have strong story like 3 idiots..but in term of entertaining it beats 3 idiots by far..as this movie do not have any dull moments…Deepika & SRK always rocks.!!

I accept defeat. Shahrukh Khan is the biggest superstar in India and overseas. Every time he has competed with someone whether it is with Akshay or Salman.. SRK has always won.
salman tried to beat 3Idiots with DABANGG and failed then with READY and despite strong WOM it couldn’t! BODYGUARD opened like never before but sank later without a trace. ETT looked like the film that could trash the long lasting record, made 100cr in 6 days and salman fans believed the day has come to see their favorite star has the biggest grosser of indian cinema but failed short of the achievement..it was not a serious problem at that time as the hurricane called DABANGG-2 was coming the next christmas and anything less than ETT total will be a big disapointment and again the dream was unfullfiled..at the same time SRK was doing a string of films that were all HITS but each one of them lacked something from a believable story in Ra.1 to mass-entertainement in MNIK and DON2 to an innovative screenplay and pace in JTHJ..the badshah of bollywood looked like the last one to hope in a feat that looked unachievable till then and only DHOOM3 KRISSH3 and PEEKAY have chances to do.. but the B.O history has always broven to be an unpredictibale game..and SRK only needed the right film he was waiting for (eventhought it’s not even close to be a classic) but was definitely a mass-entertainer (the first of its genre for SRK) and then it stroke many birds with one stone..SRK needed only one film to break READY total after 5 days and Dabangg-Bodyguard-Dabangg2 after one week of run..ETT record collections falled after only two weeks and finally the long lasting record of 3Idiots will be history after 3rd weekend itself! and that only with one film CHENNAI EXPRESS..now this is SRK’s power to those who have short-memory-loss!

first n last srk movie to break records.. as they say “every dog has his day”.. so did srk this time.. rohit shetty, deepika, eid, 3 back to back holidays, independence day, no competition from OUATIMD watsoever, raksha bandhan n dirty polictics came to the rescue for srk this time.. u cant get so lucky everytime.. CE has saved srk career only for some time.. but the saddest part is that his happiness will be short lived as hrithik n aamir are coming next.. n also dont u forget the phenomenon named salman khan coming next year!
