Chennai Express is on a record-breaking spree at the domestic box-office. The film has collected Rs 28.06 crore on its second day, taking its cumulative total to 67.93 crore.
The Shahrukh Khan starrer has already broken all previous weekend records, and now has an outside chance of crossing the 100 crore mark today.
Chennai Express also overtook the second day business of Ra One, setting new records for the ‘highest second day’ and ‘highest Saturday’ collections.
The film is likely to collect around 95-100 crore in its first weekend (including paid previews), as Shahrukh Khan is set to be crowned as the box office king of both the overseas and the domestic markets.
- Thursday – 6.75 crore (Record for paid previews)
- Friday – 33.12 crore (Record for ‘Biggest opening day’ and ‘Highest Single Day’ collections)
- Saturday – 28.06 crore (Record for ‘Biggest second day’ and ‘Biggest Saturday’ collections)
- Total – 67.93 crore (Record for Highest weekend collections)

SRK is basically the sachin tendulkar of bollywood; always delivers when people write him off; did it in 2004 with MHN & VZ and then in 2007 as well with OSO when everyone was going gaga over AK; now he has done the same with CE to salman; Lara, kallis, pointing will come and go, but sachin will be sachin. same way don’t bother comparing SRK with any other actor or their stardom; SRK is consistency personified!

i watched the not that gd it is comedy movie there is no action one is chasing scene in climax hero is beaten by villain compare to ce don2 had more action box collections also only 20 laks mr from ett it isn’t to big let see hw it fares on monday

i think shahrukh got too lucky this time.. eid falling on friday has perfectly worked for srk.. 3 holidays on the trot.. ett was released with lesser screens n during ramadan when muslim section of audience do not watch movies.. the opening could have easily been 40 crores with lesser screens as compared to CE but still CE just barely managed to break the record.. salman khan is the one who makes and breaks records with huge margin and not by just crossing over.. wait for eid next year n u will know what i mean.. i dont think the credit of these records goes to srk but goes to rohit shetty more.. CE will be the first n last movie by srk to have broken some records that too for a few days only
yes its possible to collect 100 cr in 3 days coz srk released the film over 3500 theatres. he is a mastermind,knew that if he has to break the record then he has to release the film on huge theatres bt this film business continues only in first week.

@Indicine – I’m still unsure about it’s actual collection. Some trade pundits and BOI are saying it collected 29.25 crores on its opening day and 25.50 crores on second day. I know UTV has said that it collected 33.12 crores on its opening day, but even Dharma production said Agneepath collected 25 crores on its opening day. Your thoughts?

No big star does 4-5 movies in a year anyway so you can’t compare it that way to sachin; i was talking about consistency of srk for the past 20 years which is very similar to what sachin has done in cricket; and his ability to perform when everyone is trying to write him off; and one other point, sachin has been compared to many cricketers throughout his career and same with SRK: SRK vs Hrithik; SRK vs Aamir; SRK vs Salman; SRK vs. Akshay Kumar etc. and at the end, we all know who stands where.
