Chennai Express has collected Rs 8.51 crore on its 9th day at the box office, with fantastic growth in business across all circuits. The film has shattered all previous box-office records in the south. In Tamilnadu/Kerala and Nizam circuit, Chennai Express is now the highest grossing film of all time.
With Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara crashing at the box office on its third day, there are reports that exhibitors are planning to reduce the shows of the film from Monday, and increasing the shows of Chennai Express at multiplexes.
The cumulative total of Chennai Express now stands at Rs 171.7 crore. The film is likely to collect around Rs 10-12 crore on Sunday, and should cross the 200 crore mark in its third week at the box office.

- 2nd Friday – 6.48 crore
- 2nd Saturday – 8.51 crore (31% growth)

the confusion is of 10-12 cr difference between BOI and all the other sites and official number is becoz BOI doesn’t include the official figures but collect data from distributors and exhibitors so the difference remains but the UTV has shown the breakdown for each dates so the collections can be considered somewhere between BOI and official figures like 9 days 165 cr..but in any circumtances CE will minimum collect 205 cr lifetime from here as its just 9 days run so far and the other big release is on 30th aug..which gives a clear run for 12 days with one weekend and one holiday on tuesday “rakhi” and OUTIM2 rejection will make sure CE runsa for another 1 month with minimum 500+ screens from 30th aug till “zanzeer remake” releases after a week of “satygrah”…so there is no doubt now that 202cr record will be broken but the official figures will vary with BOI…like the lifetime collection will be around 215 cr officially but for BOI it will be 203-205 cr lifetime.
we SRKians have always said what ever outimd is collecting now is actually a bonus and balaji production house and ekta should thank Chennai express team. coz if they would have released with Chennai express it would have left the screens without a trace. it would not even collect what its collecting now.
