Q. Can Holiday beat the lifetime collections of Jai Ho (112 crore) and go on to be the highest grosser of 2014? – Suniel (New Jersey)
A. Certainly, it has more than a decent chance of going on to be the biggest grosser so far this year. The word-of-mouth that the film is carrying, growth over the weekend after a slow start on Friday and the way Holiday has sustained on Monday – all suggest that the Akshay Kumar – Sonakshi Sinha starrer could be set for a long run at the box office.
If the film can manage to collect 6.5 crore or more on Monday, it should collect 60-65 crore in its first weekend and then pick up once again this weekend (second weekend of the film) as there are no big releases – apart from Akshay Kumar’s home-production Fugly.
2 States, which took a similar opening to Holiday, collected 60 crore in its first week, 15.5 crore in its second weekend and 24 crore in its second week. Assuming Holiday collects about 20% more than 2 States, as it’s likely to retain more screens, it should amass around 27-29 crore in week 2 taking its total above the 90 crore mark in 2 weeks.
Again, these are assumptions based on how ‘good word-of-mouth’ films have fared this year. Holiday could fare better or worse depending on how well it manages to sustain in the next 3 days and the growth that it shows this weekend.
The next big release is Humshakals which is scheduled to release on June 20.

Open challenge to salman. Cmon if you have guts clash with SRK when fan releases… N another challenge to salman fans give SRK 4 back to back eid like saullu… Then he’ll show what is mass superstar,class superstar(both which he already is) ,350 cr+ collection in india alone.800 cr worldwide… Then give aamir or salman biggest brand ever.. Super hiked ticket prices 2000 more screens even then they won’t be able to break SRK’s records… If he can give collection of 230 cr with just 6 days free run… Think what will happen if he is given two weeks solo run… U know the answer n that’s superstardom
A lot of people under estimate the potential of bang bang. Hritik will be back in his dhoom 2 avtar and katrina would be at her glamorous best. Dont be surprised if bang bang is amongst top 2-3 grosses of the year. as for competition, mary kom has already been preponed by a week and possibly haider will also move
I don’t think so, but if it can break the record, it will be good as the response of the movie is quite good, so at the end a good film should succeed. Though 100cr is on the cards as the trend suggest. @vikram why you behaving like a moron, we all have witness at the end of the year who has what capablities, i think you don’t know HNY will be srk 12th release on diwali. So he has used most of holiday period. @indicine, it is not trending that well.. Even jai ho trended better than holiday in its first weekend.. Jai ho had a huge growth on its sunday of more than 60% from saturday and collected a huge 26 crs on sunday as compared to 16 cr saturday. So relax wait for atleast couple of days to comment about the trending.. And for your info jai ho had done close to 10 crs on monday which i don’t see holiday can match or even get close to that.. So forget about jai ho, it cant even crs 100 crs.. My prediction is 95 crs with good trending..

the worst film of last year was chennai express. each and every review was bad. critics bashed the movie & very rightly so. it just got the benefit of so many holidays. if u take deepika out from the movie then it was zero.she infact saved the movie. srk was most irritating in the movie with so much of overacting. he has also started looking so old and haggard.thank god for deepika that she saved the movie. even srk knows this that is why he has again taken her in his next. i think the younger lot of actors have so much potential.AND HAVE A BRIGHT FUTURE AHEAD. Holiday will be down from next week. will not possibly touch the figure of 100. its first target is gunday, then 2 states and then Jai ho. even if it reaches 100 which looks difficult,it cannot beat jaiho as margin is quite a bit. it has 40 cr weekend & jai ho had 60 cr weekend.
@Vikram: Srk is the only superstar who has been releasing all his movies on holidays for more than half a decade now.
Also your talk about Salman being scared to clash. Here is the truth… Srk announced that CE will release on Eid only after being 100% sure that no Salman movie was releasing that time. Also Srk has a good chance to clash with Salman in 2015 as Salman has 2 movies coming up. (Eid-Kabir Khan next, Diwali- Prem Ratan Dhan Payo). Lets see if Srk has guts to clash with PRDP as Srk likes to release his movies in Diwali. My guess is Srk will now release his movie in Christmas as there will be no Aamir khan movie 2015 Christmas. LMFAO.
@tina u are a high class psuedo intellectual idiot! CE was a full on family comedy and the entire movie hinged on SRK comic timing, if it was off the movie wud have tanked! His performance was just awesome as it had me and entire audience rolling with laughter, yes deepika was good but by no means did she saved the movie, SRK carried that entire movie and did relly good comedic performance, if CE was trash then how come in spite of only 6 open days with clashes with 3-4 movies every week like QUATIMD, John Nargis Movie, Big B Ajay Karenna Movie, it still was FIRST film to beat 3 idiots and gross 208 cr(where are all those holidays u speak off with so much clashes?), that is no joke for a non franchise, non brand name film, if it was crap, then audience wud have rejected and it wud have tanked like Ra One, come on admit critics hate masala films, good masala flims are CE, K3, D3, RR, Singham, Dabanng 1 and Wanted………………………doesnt matter what U or critics say, these movies were good masalas and audiences loved them and their box office results were gr8………………………………… U are relly a hater and moron, who will be burning when HNY releases to great box office results then……………I wait patiently to see what u will say then……………………and fyi the worst movie last yr was NOT CE, it was Himmatwala…………………….
