Karan Malhotra’s second film ‘Brothers’ is out of most theatres in its third week at the box office. The film performed well in its first weekend at the box office, during which it collected Rs 52.08 crore.
Since then, the Akshay Kumar – Sidharth Malhotra starrer hasn’t even doubled its first weekend collections, which is usually a sign that the content hasn’t found appreciation amongst the audience.
Brothers will be a loss-making film for Dharma Productions and Akshay’s lowest grosser of 2015 after Baby and Gabbar Is Back.

I don’t even thought in my dreams that broyhers would struggled to cross 100cr, I was thinking that in worst case it will touch and go 100cr but it suprised me very much. Its not even crossing 75cr which is way too low than GIB 87cr and baby 81cr.
There was a article on addatoday for akki films underperformance, rad what they say and I actually very much satisfied with their ans was as it is very close to my thoughts too.
Coming to Akshay’s film. According to trade expert there may be few reasons.
1. Quantity of films – Even newcomers like Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra do 2 films in single year nowadays. At most we can hear 3 films in a year. But that is not case of Akshay. He is still doing 4 films a year and hence, there is lesser gap between each of his releases. Hence, movie goers might skip few which is highly probable.
2. Quality of films – Even though Akshay has given good content films in Baby and Gabbar but in between that he has also delivered average content like The Shaukeens, Boss and rest. So, the trust factor is decreasing for him day by day. Audiences think before watching his films now. Even Brothers which is currently running has been rejected by audience which might have an impact on Singh Is Bliing. He needs to be consistent. That will happen when he will slow down on project and choose right script.
3. Promotion and Marketing – Many stars nowadays promote films even after one week of release. However in case of Akshay that is not so. He hardly promotes a film or looks least interest of promoting a film. Even in promotion he seems to doing the job of promotion for the sake of makers. He keeps himself busy in new projects even when a film is around the corner to be released. He needs to re-think his strategies.
4. Something Exciting. Few in trade have raised a question that Akshay is not doing something exciting project. Yes, he had delivered great performances in recent times and also done good films like Baby and Gabbar. But something unusual or unique film is also need of the hour. For e.g., Aamir Khan does a full blown commercial Dhoom 3 and then does a PK kind of film. Even Salman Khan does a full blown commercial Kick and follows it by Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Even Ajay Devgn is planning Shivaay which has raised curiosity level among audiences. Something in those lines will help again Akshay to bounce back big.
I loved the 4th point among that above article. For example Ajay devgn has delivered two worst movie of recent time with like of Himmatwala and AJ, but in between because if less films than akki, he had Satyagraha though a flop but not bad film and SR. So when you delivered 1 torture but other good watch movie than your trust doesn’t divert much, but in Akshay case when he delivered Spl26, his next are ouatimd and boss. 1 good, two bad. When he did holiday, he come back with crap entertainment and guest appearance in Shaukeens. He do baby but he already delivered anti terrorist movie just 6-7 month earlier with holiday, when he do films with co-actor or director when he succeeded, he repeats them frequently, for example priyadarshan (2005-2010) he did 5 films with him. Katrina kaif (2006-2010) every year a film with her but in last 5 years, they hasn’t worked with each-other despite that they were highly loved couple.
He came with Sona in RR, then repeating her in most of films like joker,ouatimd,holiday etc. The same happen with Priyanka also in 2003-2005. So akki failed to balance these thing also too much. And now a days he is doing character which are aged ones, so his looks somehow didn’t appealing younger generations too.
@Babaji.., Flop kumar dream to give 25cr opening day. Brothers proved it. Even Ajay cross 30cr but our joker boy.. dream for that.

@ indicine, brothers will be average not flop, the total cost according to websites and newspapers was 85 crores and the net collections will be 85 crores, then how is it a flop, it has recovered the cost. IF it is a flop then RAONE was also flop, the cost was about 120 crores and it colected 125 crores, please explain this, also dil dhadakne do should also be flop as it collected only 77 crores and the total cost was around 75 crores. I have always admired Akki for his daredevil stunts. Had he not worked in Khans Era he would have been on top along Ajay Devgan. But look what BB did to haters n how badly Brothers turned out. I belive that indicine are out of the facts film was already in a profit pre realease secondly theatrical rights were sold 55 crores +45 crore music and satellite right budget was 82 crores buy that figure 82.75 is not a flop its flop for distributors only theyay have losed some amount but that’s also not cleared officially Akki and Sid performed well it was a young male audience film with very heavy violence loaded if 82 crores movie collecting 82.75 is flop them y Ra.one and Jai ho are declared hit coz Ra.one was made on 125 crores and collected 118 but termed as a hit wat and Jau ho also brought loss for distributors y R giving this movie. I understand film is a disappointment (although I liked it, great acting and some good songs) but I don’t understand how it is deemed a flop, when, if you go by the one confirmed budget of the film it’s 82cr, they already made this back in rights alone, so dharma definitely doesn’t have anything to worry about
