Brothers Day 4 (Monday) Box Office Collections

Brothers has fared poorly at the box office on Monday, giving the film little or no chance of crossing the 100 crore mark – which was the least a film of this size should have collected.

The Akshay Kumar – Sidharth Malhotra starrer had to collect somewhere around 7-8 crore to give the film any chance at the box office, but early estimates suggest that the first Monday business will be around the 5.5 – 6 crore mark.

Since Brothers had to collect more than 130 crore to be a clean-hit at the box office, the Monday business has sealed the fate of the Karan Malhotra directed film. The 4-day collections of Brothers is at around the 58 crore mark and the film will end Week 1 with net box office collections of around 70-71 crore.

Abhishek Bachchan’s All Is Well and Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Manjhi releases in theatres next week, both are small films that are not expected to take a huge initial but will rely on word-of-mouth publicity. It remains to be seen how well Brothers holds up in its 2nd weekend.

So what went wrong for Brothers? A section of the trade / industry has already put the blame on critics for thrashing the film and thereby creating negativity in the media. While that could be one of the many reasons why Brothers has failed to sustain at the box office (other reasons being lack of interest among the family audience, Akshay Kumar films consistently failing to take a decent initial at multiplexes, economics etc), the trade also needs to be reminded that most 100 crore plus grossers in Bollywood were also panned by the critics. Bang Bang, Bodyguard, Rowdy Rathore, Happy New Year, Housefull 2, Grand Masti, Ready, Son Of Sardaar.. the list of critically panned films that were successful at the box office is endless. The audience is smart enough to decide if a movie is worth a watch in theatre or not.

Brothers Box Office Collections

  • Saturday (Day 2) – 21.43 crore
  • Sunday (Day 3) – 15.45 crore
  • Monday (Day 4) – 6 crore

  • I personally loved this film..its very hard to digest that a film releasing on a major national holiday starring a superstar in the lead is going to flop at the box office.the opening day itself wasn’t that great and the jump on independence day was mainly due to the holiday factor only and then it had a big fall on Sunday.. The trend over the weekend only sealed its fate..Have to admit that Akshay Kumar has lost his pull and also the trust of his audience..have to blame Akshay Kumar for wasting a golden opportunity..Have to blame Akshay Kumar for not planning and choosing his movies wisely…now there are no hopes from singh is Bling..I won’t be surprised at all if it opens below 10 crore.

  • @Mohit, Agneepath was a very good movie, it was praised by both critics as well as audience. Don’t let your personal bias against Karan Malhotra take over your mind or stop making excuses for Brothers’ under-performance. The truth is, no director or actor is invincible.
Karan Malhotra got it wrong with Brothers, but he can make a huge comeback with Shuddhi.

  • Typical Akki Trademark !!!!!! I had predicted anything less than 60 crs weekend will be disappointed.

@Babaji : Karma bites !!!!!!! You had predicted BB to be a crapfest n final collections as 210 crs due to Eid. Look !!! What has happened, Brothers won’t reach even 110 crs !!!!!! So don’t take panga with Bhai & his fans !!!!!!!! Brothers is a one time watch movie nothing extra ordinary. Akki gives all for his daughter but the movie ends with brother’s reunion and no mention or status on that poor baby girl !!!!!!

@Funny Chachi : Where are Akki’s fans from Kona Kona of India? I guess they are waiting for Brothers to come on TV !!!!!! Lol now don’t bring 2007 despite top form Akki has failed to give a Single HGOTY whereas Salman has given 9 HGOTY (Including BB) !!!!!!!!!

I am not against Akki or brothers, but one should know their idol/star limits before attacking Megastars like Salman !!!!!!!!!!

  • @babaji ka ullu, you keep bashed by every user of @indicine. what you said brothers is better than JTHJ? your classless star can’t do a dukm like JTHJ in upcoming 7 birth, save brothers if you can and don’t try to degrade other’s good movies,2rs film watchers like you never can understand the value of a movie like JTHJ,now I confirmed HNY also a better movie than brothers

  • @sss Brothers is as gud as Jthj, if not better. You wont understand it, you even consider Raone and Hny are masterpieces. lol. And whom you are calling classless has given great film like Baby.

Brothers has turned out to a huge dissappoimtment at the box office as basically it was just Akshay Kumar fighting a lone battle without any support. This is the case with most of his films but they do not cost over 100 crore. Brothers was coming from a production house like Dharma Productions and had another star Sidharth Malhotra and this combo together should have had some clout with the urban youth in the metros.

But when the film opened on Friday, it was just the regular Akshay Kumar markets taking an opening be it Rajasthan, CI, Punjab or Bihar and the urban centres were dull and were saved to an extent in the evening which was due to the holiday on next day.

A few months back Gabbar Is Back released and it pulled through on Akshay Kumar as it did well in markets where his films normally fo well but that film was for those markets so it opened and held. Here the film opened due Akshay Kumar in these markets but the content was more city type so they crashed on Monday.

Another reason Gabbar Is Back pulled through was the lower cost factor and the fact is that a star alone is not going to pull through a 100 crore plus film unless its comes on Eid, Diwali or Christmas. When a film is bigger it needs support from other factors outside the big star but they were not forthcoming with Brothers.

A post by boxofficeindia so my middle finger salutes u haters..nd yeah grow up..

  • @indicine…
Finally has answered me for once!! Stilll not an excuse …u don’t tell us what’s new or not. We figure it out ourselves…ONLY YOUR REVIEW MADE THAT SILLY COMMENTS …why didn’t you say that for over 10 remakes already in 100 crores club?
Anys okay stick with yr notion I stick with mine but definitely know d meaning of favoirism in this site wen it comes to actors.
And if Sunday’s are meant to score high…then it means your brothers refused to concur with that too on sunday!

  • to all akkians!!!! it is important!!!
to all akshay fans!! i noticed one thing since quite long time about salman and aamir fans. they always create negativity about akki’s movies. So i request all of you to stop watching salman and aamir films and let all akshay fans who don’t have access to internet to avoid their films as well. after this we have to support SRK and R Roshan films.

  • Akshay lost his star power coz of bkwas movies like TMK, KI, Blue, PH, Thank You, Joker, K786, OUATIMD

  • it looks a lost film as I am watching…slow pathetic

manjhi on the contrary is a fabulous film ..jaandaar shandaar..zindabad

  • @bollywood fan
You many be true that all films you mentioned were worse than BROTHERS then what made the difference?Yes if Akki would have in that films then they would have struggled to cross 70 crs as you mentioned that brothers is better than that movies and still struggling to go past 90 crs.
Just chill and bongian na maro

  • Brothers is a average movies I don’t know what went wrong but this proves that akki Kumar stardom is dipping around so anyways khans are kings

  • Bajrangi bhaijaan earns 65 lakh in its 5 th weekend in US in just 50 screen while brothers earn 1.53 cr in 1st weekend with messive 260 screen.it means bhaijaan still beat brothers

  • Has anyone seen hollywoods undisputed series…staring scott adkins….than luking at those fight scenes hw cud anyone like brothers fight scenes..they were quiet average

  • Has anyone seen hollywoods undisputed series…staring scott adkins….than luking at those fight scenes hw cud anyone like brothers fight scenes..they are quiet average
