The hourly countdown has well and truly begun! Shahrukh Khan’s Happy New Year will release on Indian screens in less than 40 hours from now. The craze the film has managed to generate is tremendous, and the demand for tickets in advance has further encouraged the trade into believing that the film has every chance of breaking opening day records.
The early reports from those who have already seen the film is excellent, but then there has never been any big film carrying negative pre-release reports in the era of social media.

After the initial euphoria, it will all boil down to the content. If Happy New Year is as entertaining as Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Naa or Shahrukh’s last release Chennai Express, then expect records to be broken left, right and centre. After all, when Chennai Express ended its run, it was the highest grosser in India as well as the first film to cross 400 crore worldwide.

When it comes to Box Office Collection Prediction i don’t think anyone really predict the exact figure of any movie lifetime collection. When 3 idiots released no one predicted that it will earn more than 200 crore at domestic market n same goes to Chennai Express. @Indicine can you please elaborate the basic criteria for any movie to earn All Time Blockbuster status and Why domestic collections were more imp than worldwide collection of any movie?

@babaji no dear first day will be 40cr + even they achieved it or not as breaking D3 opening day will create immense positivity for hny BH various sources,as in CE case they said they broke Ett record and 100 cr in 3 days while in reality they didn’t and miss those target easily,that’s y various sites given different figures.

First day- 35 cr- with trade figure,producer -40 cr + may be 42 cr if trade gives 37-38cr.
First weekrbd- trade 95-100 cr , producer any thing above than d3 officials 107.5cr may be 110 cr or more as see how the film fares.
Lifetime -250cr plus with positive wom like CE if better than d3 is achievable.
Realistic film will be highest grosser till date surpassing kick as pet producer figure in all case while WW they definitely beat kick as srk has immense following in overseas.
Correction highest grosser of 2014 till date if wom is good.
My verdict- 220 cr figure as per BOI. In good case, bad wom will stick this close to 180cr.

@tiger the real king yes, it’s basically an unofficial remake of Italian job. our king always pretends that he does original movies, but when his audience watch his film than they realize that it’s nothing original but copy of multiple Hollywood movies or south movies. if look at Chennai express, we saw many films in it, like bodyguard, Son Of Sardaar, khiladi 786, and many other south films. it was a combo of south films. and his so called original fans claim that he does original films. LOL.

Opening day record will be broken if everything goes fine. Willl have good weekend as well but real test begins on Monday as there are no holidays after it.
Opening : 34 – 39 cr
Weekend : 100 – 110 cr
Lifetime : 190 – 215 cr (all with mixed or average wom) !!!!!!!!!
Frankly speaking there are 3 factors which will give a indication of how far the movie can go:
1) Content: It will stupid to estimate that a movie from Farah Khan will be masterpiece or very good. Content at max will be slightly good or mixed and can also go negative.
2) Competition: 1st week, in south 2 crores will definitely hit due to vijay’s movie in 4 states i.e. TN, KA, AP and kerala. Vijay’s movie has lot of positive reviews. 2nd Week: lot of bollywood and hollywood movies are coming, so until content is very strong the movie has no chance of 40-45+ crores in 2nd week. 3rd week again akshay’s movie is coming so all screens will go to it. so expect only 15-20 crores max.
3) Buzz: Buzz is good but not the best, except indicine i have never heard anywhere about HNY having excellent buzz. Songs have good buzz, but not trailers. So except first weekend, rest will rely on positive WOM.
Overall, from point 2, it will surely lose some business in first day, so 35-38 crores looks the best on first day. first weekend – 100-110, first week: 170-18, 2nd week: 45 crores, 3rd week : 15 crores, and rest 5 crores. so final lifetime will be 240-250 max. if WOM is mixed 200-220, and if bad 180-200 crores.

My foot. 233cr. in the end, and that too with 2 free week runs,4300+ screens (700 more than CE) and 1 extra week due to stupid movie called ENTERTAINMENT!! which was just 6 crores more than CE!! Realistically speaking, HNY has a great chance to break few records if the release date is concerned.
I would predict:
Day1: 38-40cr., Day 2: 31-33cr., Day3: 36-39cr.
Weekend1: 110cr.+ Other days: 60cr. Week1: 170-175cr.
Weekend2: 30-35cr. Week2: 15-18cr. Total Week 2: 50cr.+. Till Week2: 225-230cr.
Week3: 10-15cr. Lifetime: 240-260cr (Safe Bet). If the content matches Main Hoon Na or OSO – then definitely, sky is the limit – 280-300 cr.
I just hope that Farah has not made a mockery of SRK! But when you see her other two films apart from TMK, she is a good film maker. I anticipate it to be highly entertaining for the duration of 3 full hours, if it can – GREAT!!

5. Opening Weekend (WW): 200cr.+ gross(>=9M$)
5. Opening Week: 170cr.+nett.
6. Opening Week (WW): 300-320cr. gross (100cr. overseas – arnd16M$)
7. Lifetime overseas: 30-31M$ – 190cr.+
8. Lifetime Domestic: if content on par with MHN/OSO – 280cr.+ (maybe 1st 300cr.)
9. Lifetime Worldwide: 540cr.+ (If the WOM is positive or close to positive).
PS. If HNY’s response/wom is close to positive or mixed to positive or to OSO or MHN (which I am hopeful of) then the records no. 7,8 and 9 is possible, else the 1st six points can be achievable.

First day more likely looks to be above 40 CRORES and 1st weekend above 110 CRORES. That’s actually the easy part coz that’s dependant on the craze of the film and star power of SRK and both are humongous to say the least.
But now the bigger question of passing 300 CRORES. Its basically dependant on wom. Which would be possible to know once the picture releases. But I can assure it would definitely cross 200 irrespective of the wom

happy new year= tees maar khan + players, so the collection will be 85 crores plus 25 crores that is 110 crores, adjusting the screen counts and ticket prices add 30 crores more, so final collections will be around 140-150 crores
@ vignesh, who told you that OSO had content, it was the worst movie of that year, if OSO had content then tees mar khan should have won oscar, please do not expect content from farah khan
