Bollywood Strike Ends

Moviegoers can now heave a sigh of relief as the spat between producer/distributor and multiplex owners has finally come to an end. The cinegoers were denied of entertainment completely for the past seven weeks since the producers had demanded for 50:50 revenue sharing from the multiplex owners. The mulitplex owners rejected the demand which led to ‘no-show’ by producers at the mulitplexes.

In a meeting held at the Yash Raj Studios on the 5th of June that lasted quiet long, the two parties came to an agreement on a new revenue settlement plan. It was agreed upon that the producers will get 50 per cent of the revenue from ticket sales in the first week, 42.5 per cent in week two, 37.5 per cent in week three and 30 per cent from fourth week onwards. In addition to this, there will be a bonus of 2.5% on all those films which do exceptionally well at the box office. In this case the producers wil get 52, 45, and 38 percent respectively for all blockbuster movies that gross over Rs.17.5 crores.

With almost half year gone, the Bollywood film industry has not yet seen a blockbuster that set the cash registers ringing. And now since the strike has come to an end, more than 50 films are lined up for release in close succession. The movies will start hitting the silver screens from June 12th onwards.

Indicine Team is happy to inform you that the movies starring you favourite stars will soon hit the theatres near you. Keep visiting us for updates on the release dates of your most-awaited movies.

  • I’m really glad that the bollywoods strike has finally ended!!!!!!!!! Everythings gonna be back!!!! Cant wait for the new releases!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Though it is over most of the big releases like My name is Khan(Which I was desperately waiting to watch) are postponed to next year. We still did not see a single blockbuster in this year although almost half of the year is over. The only big release this year will be Kites. Now the damage is done.

  • Can’t wait for King kumar’s (kamabakht Ishq ) the super block buster of 2009
music of this movie looks great

  • Dear Anupama,

who is in the film role “my name is khan”, why they postponed it to next year?

  • Hi Imran,

It is Shah Rukh’s next release which is directed by Karan Johar. He is acting with Kajol after Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham(K3G) in 2000. SRK+Kajol+Karan Johar trio are going to make a come back with this movie(after K3G).

According to what I heard as almost all the big films’ releases(like Kambakhth Ishq,Love aaj kal, Kites, new york etc.) are getting postponed and going to make a clash with “My name is Khan” Karan and probably Shahrukh wanted to delay the release. :)

Indicine team, correct me if I’m wrong.
