Bollywood Holiday Releases: Box Office Comparison

In last 4-5 of years, filmmakers have raced against time to release their big-budget Bollywood films during the lucrative Holiday season. Before Aamir made the Christmas weekend his own, the only other known holiday weekend was Diwali, which more often than not belonged to Shahrukh Khan.

Now, we have the Republic day weekend (Agneepath), Post-IPL release (Rowdy Rathore), EID (Ek Tha Tiger), Diwali (Son Of Sardar, Jab Tak Hai Jaan) and Christmas (Dabangg 2).

Points to be noted

  • EID: Ek Tha Tiger was the only major release during the EID weekend. The film starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, released on 3300 screens in India.
  • Diwali: Witnessed the clash between SRK and Katrina’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan and Ajay Devgn’s Son Of Sardaar. The two films combined released on 4500 screens in India.
  • Christmas: Once again a solo release for Salman Khan and the widest release for a single film – Dabangg 2 also starring Sonakshi Sinha released on 3500 screens.
