Bollywood Box Office August 2014: Total Collections and Verdict

The month of August has come to an end. Out of 12 odd films that released in theatres, only 4 managed to make some sort of an impact, the rest were complete washouts.

Entertainment (August 8 2014): The first big release of the month released between two major releases like Kick and Singham Returns. The result was that the majority of the audience decided to give the film a skip. The opening at multiplexes was poor, single-screens were better, but business in the first 3 days was about 30% lower than acceptable levels for a film like Entertainment. Net box office collections – 72 cr. Verdict – Average

Singham Returns (August 15 2014): Independence Day release, brand Singham, Rohit Shetty as director and Ajay Devgn playing the iconic role of Bajirao Singham, combined well to give the industry its biggest opening day of 2014. The film did well in its first weekend at the box office, but it was a free-fall Monday onwards as the film crashed at the box office. First week – 112.6 cr, Second week – 22.8 cr, Third weekend – 2.75 cr. Total – 138.15 cr. Verdict – Super Hit.

Mardaani (August 22 2014): The promos create any buzz, the music wasn’t a hit either, but Mardaani managed to take the better opening than female-centric films like Queen and Kahaani. The film won rave reviews and was declared tax free in states like Maharashtra, UP and Madhya Pradesh. But the trend wasn’t close to as good as Queen or Kahaani. The film should finish with lifetime business of 35-40 cr. Collections in 10 days: 28.2 cr. Verdict – Hit.

Raja Natwarlal (August 29 2014): The biggest disappointment of the month was its last release, Raja Natwarlal, which marked the return of Emraan Hashmi after a 14-month hiatus. The film opened poorly and dropped on Saturday, pretty much sealing its fate as one of the biggest flops of 2014. Collections in 3 days: 17.25 cr (expected to finish below 28 cr). Verdict – Flop.

  • Definitely Mardaani is the best film of August and also of 2014 . Singham Returns was nice but could have been better . 2ND Half was pretty average . Entertainment was also nice but 2ND Half was average . I am not excited for the month of September except for Mary Kom which is looking brilliant but other than that Dawaat – E – Ishq and Khoobsurat are looking average . As for Finding Fanny i will wait for the reviews . @ Carnage I agree with you BOI is the crappiest website i have ever seen . Now i want to see the reaction of Salman fans will they believe the official figure or BOI figure . They were continuously saying that Roshans has manipulated the collections but now what they will say ? @ Shaggy I agree with you that in October the competition is between BB and HNY . But how can you say that BB cannot cross 200 CR just wait for the film to release you and all of us will get the answer . I know it is clashing with Haider but still it will emerge as a huge success even Haider will be successful because of the content . @ Indicine You should post this type of article every month definitely is very interesting and exciting . Good Job . Continue the good work .

  • dnt knw abt shaukeens but gabbar on 23rd jan. will definetly do 150cr.+ business..and also critically acclaimed.!!
    waiting for 2015-
    1)gabbar-150cr.+,critically acclaimed
    2)baby-150cr.+,critically acclaimed
    3)singh is bling-100cr.+
    4)brothers-200cr.+,critically acclaimed..

  • @Indicine.. great article!!

@Akshay Singhal.. why do Akshay fans expect 150 and 200 plus critical acclaim when his movies don’t even get 15 cr opening?

Special 26 you said 100, ABCD opened better and S26 did just 63 or so.
OUATIMD you said 200, did 62.
Boss you said 150, did 65.
Holiday you said 200, did 110 only with best release date.
Entertainment you said 100 plus, did 70.

So I suggest you stop dreaming about 150 and 200, and start hoping that his movies at least take 15 crore opening and cross 70 by the end of its run.

  • so finally akki movies r releasing on holidays 26th jan and 2nd Oct. we will see what happens.
    my prediction ( trade fig)
    gabbar – 140cr
    baby – 100cr
    singh is bling – 125cr
    brothers – 125 cr.
    bajrangi bhijaan – 225 cr
    prdp – 250 cr

  • @neeraj just wait it for till 2015 this time akshay will prove it his stardom power…if everything will gone right all 4 movies of akki in 2015 will do 100cr.+ business n critically acclaimed too..coz gabbar is the highly anticipated movie n baby is abt real-incident…!!

so kick finished below ce… better luck next time sallu… but i don’t think bandaria bhaijaan will cross even 150 crs, as it is going to suffer in multiplexes…….
@carnage,being a superstar fan i always beleive boi.com and boi.co.in are the best boxoffice sites, and are miles ahead of others……… as both these sites are most neautral whereas others always sway depending upon which way the wind is blowing….

  • @Romance eagerly waiting… @babaji 2015 is looking dull according to you because your rohit hasn’t a movie and its not just youngistan’s year because the biggest superstars of bollywood (srk and salman) have 4 different films that everyone waiting for them . salman has bb and prdp and in other hand srk has fan and raees so 2015 also belong to this man’s on behalf of aamir . khans are ruling in 2015 just like they did in last 25 years.

  • Top Hindi Films, Alltime

    1. Dhoom 3 – 261.25cr
    2. Chennai Express – 218.52cr
    3. Kick – 215.01cr (exp)
    4. 3 Idiots – 202.47cr
    5. Krrish 3 – 198.66cr

  • @wap4, us list shows salman has 5movies out of top 10. This proves the power of real king of bollywood.

  • @babaji, (10:53pm comment) accrding to u only 60cr king akki is the hope for 2015. Then wht about bajrangi bhaijan, prdp, fan, raees etc. Ur cmmnt shows u think akki movies will collect more than these salman/srk movies. Now only god can help u recover this manipulative disease of unknown land.

  • August was a fabulous month where MARDAANI was released. Shocking and amazing performance has been done by ‘queen of heart’, Rani Mukherjee, differently among her previous roles. One of best performance of her ever. The film does well for a success. Poeple should have watched this, mardaani.

  • Mardaani & Singham Returns r the best films of August… Singham Returns opened huge but crashed heavily… Reason- lack of strong villain like Prakash Raj….

Mardaani is another surprise hit like Queen but it can never match Queen…

Raja Natwarlal is just a one time watch but climax is pretty gud specially HDMC bank….

    Entertainment, i didn’t see…

September looks hopeful with Finding Fanny, Mary Kom n Daawat-e-ishq…

October will be the most interesting month – Bang Bang, HNY, Haider….

People are so insecure of other actors success , the topic here is August releases n yet they r discussing Kick n Krrish 3 collections n still supporting BOI….

  • Singham Returns disappointing as content. Expected more after Singham 1. Best movie is Mardaani, followed by Entertainment. Business wise, SR tops the list !!!!!!!!!!

  • @Romance New_yr : Do not forget Srk had Eid + repetitive value for CE. HNY is coming after Bang Bang on Diwali (which is not as big as Eid or Christmas in recent years). I dont think families will watch HNY as much as CE by looking at the trailer which contains some vulgar jokes !!!!!!!!! So my prediction is 180-210 cr max. will struggle to beat CE forget Kick !!!!!!!!!!! D3 is out of equation for HNY !!!!!!

  • In 2015 Akshay will beat Hakla khan and criminal bhai. Aamir has no release in 2015. Clearly the fight is between akki and ranbir.

  • Kick failed to beat ce… Finishes lifetime collection @ 214.79 cr behind ce’s 219 cr according to most trusted site boi.co.in

  • Amir on bang bang teaser and tu meri

    Aamir Khan @ aamir_khan 19m
