Akshay Kumar’s Brothers has come crashing down on its 2nd Friday at the box office. The writing was on the wall as early as Day 3 (Sunday), but there was hope that the film would sustain well enough to show growth in its second weekend, as it wasn’t competing against big films.
But the 3rd major drop in 8 days is probably the final nail in the coffin, as the best possible result now would be lifetime business of Rs 90 crore net.
Brothers was one of the biggest films of 2015, released by a major banner like Dharma Productions and the film even managed to get the 4th best release period of the year (after Eid, Diwali, Christmas). The content, however, was a major letdown.
Overall, the makers of the film will lose money on Brothers. The outstanding run of ‘Baahubali’ will cover up the losses of Brothers for Dharma, but given the release period, the film is one of the biggest disappointments of 2015.
A film that was expected to be Akshay’s biggest grosser will now be the 5th highest grosser of his career after Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2, Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty and Baby. It’ll be his 6th highest grosser if Brothers fails to beat the 86 crore total of Gabbar Is Back.
The Dharma – Fox partnership has also taken the worst possible start. The good news? Shandaar is tracking well and the trailer of the film has managed to create quite a bit of buzz.

@indicine you people were in a rush to predict Drishyam lifetime. This movie is still unstoppable on its 4th weekend!! It’s collection is around 73-74 crores as of today but trade analyst and other movie sites are already predicting it to reach 80 crores and the verdict from those sites are already out- clean hit for 2015. Most exhibitors are having so much confidence in the movie that they have increased their shows despite all is well brothersand manji! It’s just unfortunate it released when bb bahubal mi5 were strong. No Buzz less ,promotion.initial low opening day. Ajay star power for this indications lists him among the top superstars up there arguably just 3 or 4. Well done Ajay Sir. What an irony a movie like high commercial big project multistar brothers had 3 good weeks with lesser competition to garner adequate collections but crashed right from 4th day. While the 4th weekend of drishyam is quite respectful giving all disadvantage s the movie had, couple with movies like BB Bahubal Mi5 Bangistan Brothers All is well Manjhi but still not shaken by any of them now. Kudos Ajay kudos. That’s always going to be the difference between Ajay and Akshay. Ajay is a power pack Talent in Bollywood no doubts . @Rew1 , I never comment bad about any actor but you behave like a kid, check the facts and then comment yes khans are bigger than akshay currently but akshay is also a big star, and you said if amir did 3 films per year all three were collect over 500 crs, really for your kind information same amir was doing multiple films in 90s and was given huge flops and after failure of mangal pandey he take a break and realize that its not easy to deliver hits with multiple releases and start doing one movie in 2-3 years, some other megastars also did multiple films in last dacade and deliver disasters so its not easy to release multiple films though I agree that amir and others take a good decision and everyone has his own style of working and now they surpass akshay but that doesn’t mean akshay is less important, talk to theater owners and they will tell you the truth many individual distributers said many times that khans bring big smile on our faces on three major festvals but its akahay kumar who bring continuous audience to us and keep our theaters running, akshay kumar bring around 2.75 – 3 cr+ people every year to theater which is more than one film of amir in three years and in this time span akshay bring 10 cr.+ people to theater and thatswhy he called parralel industry.
