Akshay Kumar’s Brothers has come crashing down on its 2nd Friday at the box office. The writing was on the wall as early as Day 3 (Sunday), but there was hope that the film would sustain well enough to show growth in its second weekend, as it wasn’t competing against big films.
But the 3rd major drop in 8 days is probably the final nail in the coffin, as the best possible result now would be lifetime business of Rs 90 crore net.
Brothers was one of the biggest films of 2015, released by a major banner like Dharma Productions and the film even managed to get the 4th best release period of the year (after Eid, Diwali, Christmas). The content, however, was a major letdown.
Overall, the makers of the film will lose money on Brothers. The outstanding run of ‘Baahubali’ will cover up the losses of Brothers for Dharma, but given the release period, the film is one of the biggest disappointments of 2015.
A film that was expected to be Akshay’s biggest grosser will now be the 5th highest grosser of his career after Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2, Holiday: A Solider Is Never Off Duty and Baby. It’ll be his 6th highest grosser if Brothers fails to beat the 86 crore total of Gabbar Is Back.
The Dharma – Fox partnership has also taken the worst possible start. The good news? Shandaar is tracking well and the trailer of the film has managed to create quite a bit of buzz.

Umm shouldn’t it be labelled Akshay and Sidharth’s Brothers flops? It was marketed as a two-hero film and I’m sure if it was a success Sidharth would’ve gotten some credit, so it’s failure should also be attributed to him, shouldn’t it?
@Shweta, well, Akshay is the bigger star. Whatever the film has done, it’s because of Akshay. A film will always be the responsibility of the more bankable / bigger star. Dilwale is SRK’s film, so the responsibility both for the opening and cost recovery is solely on Shahrukh and not on Varun Dhawan.
If it does well, Varun will get the credit too along with SRK. If it fails to take a good opening, the blame will be almost entirely only on Shahrukh. That’s just how it is.
There is a big difference in remuneration too. Sidharth won’t get half of what Akshay gets.

But I admire Akki he can do films every year and dare release with anyone.
But I cant do that. Last time, I was afraid of Vidya’s Kahani and postponed my Backlaash because both were psychological thrillers.

Well FOX star is a Panauti production as far as bollywood films are concerned.
It touches gold and it becomes sand. Look at its past few films Humshakals, BV, Bang Bang, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, Mr X and now Brothers and etc etc. Only Bang Bang was medium success mostly due to stardom of Hrithik. It will hope this Panauti period should definitely end with diwali release PRDB
@Saurabh, quite silly to put the blame on Fox. If Brothers was a good film, it would have worked. Fox or not.
They said the same thing about Eros not too long ago after Jai Ho, Dishkiyaaoon, Kochadaiiyaan, Dr. Cabbie, Lingaa, Lekar Hum Deewana Dil, Happy Ending, Action Jackson, Tevar and Shamitabh. Yes, the list is much longer than Fox.
But their last few films have been hugely successful. Badlapur, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The difference is content. So all that Fox can do is, pick better movies. Only content is working today. Bad films will tank, irrespective of banner.

i heard that the landing cost of brothers is almost 125 cr.and it will end its bussines between 85cr to 90cr means it is flop.
My friend said brothers would collect more than 180 crs in India, i said it would make around 115 crs . both of us have been wrong still i won the bet.

Well Indicine just an observation out of its past results. I agree content is the king but may be the team of fox which is selecting these scripts and are making the deceisions investing in it are not good for their jobs and thats why they have partnered with Dharma so that they only invest and don’t have go through scripts as they are pretty bad at it.

This is a bad news for Akshay fans . Brothers was the Biggest movie of 2015 for Akshay . Akshay working with Dharma for the first time, Independence Day and Karan Malhotra all these factors were in favour but the content was not good . This year has been below par in terms of Box Office apart from movies like BB, Baahubali, ABCD 2 and TWMR . I hope SIB becomes a successful movie . 2nd October is a National Holiday so it can do good business on the first day . But afterwards the content will come into play . PrabhuDeva is the director so i am not expecting content but even if it is entertaining it can do good business . My friend today told me the 1st Half of the movie was extremely boring . But he absolutely loved the 2nd Half . He said the first half should have been better . Cheers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The movie hasn’t lost anything. Sure it flopped at the Box office but don’t forget the rights for music and TV etc. Those put together with the earning of the box office it has already earned more than the budget.
I didn’t like the movie but saying that “Overall, the makers of the film will lose about Rs 20-25 crore” is a huge lie Indicine!
Unsurprised, when I gave the movie 1.5/5, everyone lambasted me especially Akki fans so now I ave got something to say to them ” ????????”

There are Many bad movies that score low on RT and bashed by critics and fans but still make money.. except that Brothers is a disaster and move on.
