Akshay Kumar gets solo release for ‘Toilet Ek Prem Katha’

The pre-release battle for the extended ‘Independence Day’ weekend has a winner and it’s Akshay Kumar – on the strength of winning the clash against ‘Mohenjo Daro’ last year and a string of successful films like ‘Airlift’, ‘Rustom’, ‘Housefull 3’ and ‘Jolly LLB 2’ – who gets a solo release, even though his team announced their film months after Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ was confirmed.

‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ is said to be a film that’s close to Akshay’s heart and he has gone all out to promote it. It’s also based on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, spreading awareness on cleanliness as the need for toilets across the country.

The makers are also trying hard to get tax exemption for the film, although it’s unclear if there will be a provision for it after GST comes into effect from July 1.

The countdown to the trailer – which releases on June 11 – has also begun. The countdown posters have helped generate curiosity.

With captions like “Lota Party Coming Your Way” and “Nature is not a Toilet” the social film is expected to get the government help in taking it to audience in every nook and corner of the country, especially at smaller centres.

Check out the posters of the film which Akshay is calling “Ek TOILET Revolution!”

The film is slated to release on August 11, which also stars Bhumi Pednekar opposite him. This is not the only film that has a direct connect with society. Akshay is also working on another film titled Padman, that is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who invented low-cost sanitary pad making machines and spread awareness about menstruation.

  • Best of luck akki eagerly waiting for trailer.. Won’t badmouth anyone…There will be good buzz for both the movies when they release..

  • those how said that toilet will not work at single screen wait for the trailer it will be very funny and entertainment even the content of the film is for smaller towns so srk fans should worry about Imtiaz Ali film as this film maker haven’t made film ever for single screen audience

  • Cover poster no2 and no3 looks quite innovative. Content oriented movie…teaches on environmental health issues and thus anything spreading awareness for “health related issue” will definitely win my nod. All the best Akshay.

  • The poster & concept looks promising.. I admire srk but this movie looks more interesting than his harry met sally

  • this movie of akshay sir looks intresting and neeraajpandey is associated with this it will be a fine product. This movie will cross minimum125cr at any cost, but what about” CRACK”, no recent news . i am waiting for it since its eaarly annoncement in aug 2016.

  • @Ally8795 of course toilet is more interesting than crap rom com Harry met Sally remake for we the idiot audience but wait hey come on who is saying that? The one who found dangal a crap movie and called pink best movie of the year? Oh come on. This kind of stupid comment wasn’t expected from a classic intellectual cinema lover like you to call a crap toilet better than classic masterpiece Harry met deal (as per your choice and intelligence). ……:)

  • For the person @ 9:34 pink is still >> dangal but your low iq will never get that. The sad state of bollywood is that majority of movie-goers including yourself make such average affairs as blockbusters whereas the real good movies never receive the appreciation they truly deserve. Pink was a exception where it was a moderate success whereas many more deserving ones like aligarh, nil battey sannata, waiting, laal rang, teen, dhanak, madaari went unnoticed. I’m glad there is a minority of audience who still watch & appreciate the above mentioned movies for what they truly are i.e the real potential of our bollywood filmmakers unlike the other 90% of trash movies churned out which turn out to be blockbusters.

  • We appreciate the contribution of the movie ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’ for promoting the Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a government campaign to improve the sanitation conditions and eradicate open defecation in India. Our team at Helper4U met a lady with same spirits, who narrated us the problems she had to face due to open defecation and the real #freedom she got after moving to a house with toilet.
