When an offbeat film of yours ends up finding all-around appreciation, starts breaking records, gives a character artist a hero status, battles challenges that could have been reputation threatening and ends up gaining a cult status for itself, it can be pretty much said that things are indeed falling in place for you as a filmmaker.
Akshay Kumar may well be saying this to himself, what with ‘OMG – Oh My God’ cruising towards the 80 crore mark just in India and carrying a decent chance of registering 100 crore in worldwide collections. This, when two of his films (Housefull 2, Rowdy Rathore) have already joined the 100 crore club this year and one more (Khiladi 786) is all set to repeat the feat in less than two months from now.
The man who was being questioned for his script selection not too long ago is now being hailed for getting it right across genres and scoring well too. The same guy who hadn’t lost his charm or the acting prowess, was the fittest in the business, had boasted of looks that had stayed steady despite a few downs in his career and had glowed without the need of any surgical helps, smiled through his not so good times and is now calling the shots in a big way, and how.
Suddenly, all choices made by him seem to be worth in gold. ‘Khiladi 786’ is coming across as a true blue action comedy franchise which just can’t go wrong. ‘Special Chabbis’ is touted as a slick heist thriller in the offering early next year. ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai 2’ is a sequel that stands tall amidst Top-5 most awaited films of 2013. ‘Naam Hai Boss’ is an entertaining ‘masala’ flick that has the cushion of being a South remake. With another remake already in the pipeline with A.R. Murugadoss and close friend Sajid Nadiadwala planning a biggie with him, Akshay has earned his Bollywood standing in a big way.
This isn’t where he is stopping as his freshly floated production house ‘Grazing Goat’ has pretty much turned out to be a ‘Golden Goat’ for him. With many more productions in the pipeline, starting with ’72 Miles’ which is ready for release, Akshay is juggling his many roles and revelling in all the success coming his way. Clearly, he is enjoying the best phase of his career and just like the Khan trio along with Ajay Devgn has firmed up his place further in the Top-5.

clean your eyes dude, he had 35 – 40 min role, like srk in billu, it is a supporting role, had huge impact. 15 minute appearance just after the interval. 18 minute in the end of the film, 5 minute for mere nishaan, and few appearances here and there and also being in the poster and was playin title role. you want to try best to erase OMG from akki’s list, which isn’t working.
also in the credits it never mentions akki in guest appearance like it does for sonakshri, prabhu deva.
Akshay is going to rock in 2013 with Special26 , OUATIM 2 and BOSS..no doubt about that.. I have my doubts about Khiladi 786 though, if it can reach 100cr or not, as it is releasing in jam packed period with Talaash n Dabangg2..also story is by Himesh and director is new.
khiladi786 with a new director also under akki’s production banner. if that works then he will succeed in launching the career of 2 new directors. Umesh Shukla and Ashish R Mohan.
well coming to akki he has not only sustained but he has come up with flying colors for these many years and add to that he was someone without any filmi background will make his profile more prominent among contemporary starts of bollywood. now just look at his impressive line up for 2013 and you will know how big he is going to be by there onwards, Thuppaki remake, rammana remake, special 26, OUATIM 2 and also Naam Hain Boss. Now he doesnot ends here he has also big sequels to follow up in 2014, Singh is king2, welcome 2, Namaste London2, Hera pheri 4 & list goes on. Now look at the kind of work thats coming up his way, OUATIM 2 is autobiographical where he plays dawood in entertaining full on masala Milan Lutharia Style, Thupakki remake is going to be helmed by no1 other than gr8 AR murgadoss now that may be typical south indian movie but that will be definetely quite hatke, again Naam hain boss need no introduction,ramana is a remake full of subtance while special 26 is really special because its helmed by none other than neeraj pandey. Now still if you guys put Hrithik ahead of Akki that will be nothing but a strange.
