Airlift Box Office Opening

Airlift has taken a good opening at the box office, with most centres recording higher occupancy than Akshay Kumar’s previous Republic Day weekend release ‘Baby’.

The opening is around the 40% range in major cities, which is good for a thriller film releasing on a working Friday.

Apart from ‘Baby’ last year, almost all Akshay Kumar films in recent times have opened well at the box office, and the trend continues with ‘Airlift’ which can be seen as a film that brought back the multiplex audience to watch an Akshay film on Friday morning. In fact, Airlift has opened well inspite of the fact that there were two releases this week, even though the two films weren’t competing with each other.

The early reports from theatres ranges from good to excellent, which should mean growth at multiplexes evening onwards. Saturday will be important for a film like Airlift, which has two and possibly three open weeks at the box office. If the word-of-mouth is good, upcoming releases like Mastizaade, Saala Khadoos and Ghayal Once Again will not affect the business of the film.

Opening Day occupancy for other films in 2016

  • Airlift – 40% (approx)
  • Kya Kool Hai Hum 3 – 30%
  • Wazir – 17%

  • @ultron are you an Ajay sir fan? if not just shut your mouth. Even Ajay fans are sensible not bashing the film so why non actor fan like you. Remember Akshay and Ajay fans don’t need introduction they have been excellent throughout their career unlike Salman who had a new introduction just 2010. All this while where was he. Also yes Ajay will suit Airlift 100 times more than Salman.

  • Airlift 2 days box office collections: 12.35 + 16.73 Crores = 29.08 Crores. Day 3 (Sunday) should be appx 20 Crores. Tuesday again (Republic Day) should be same as Sunday. Airlift’s First week is heading for 90 Crores plus. 2nd Saturday should see it cross 100 Crores net in India.

  • Airlift to better Agneepath and also Akshay’s own Rowdy Rathore. Word of mouth is extremely positive. 9.6 rating on IMDB. If the Indian audiences have learnt their lessons after ignoring classy Baby last year, sky is the limit for Airlift. I’m betting on 135 Crores plus for Airlift.
