Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil sustained well throughout the second week at the box office, even though business was hit by the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes on Wednesday and Thursday. Business should be back to normal levels during the second weekend as new currency circulation has increased on Friday and will continue to increase in the next couple of days as banks remain open.
The film is a profitable venture for all involved and considering the fact that ADHM’s appeal was mostly at audience in urban centres, the lifetime domestic total of nearly 105 crore in 2 weeks is good. It remains to be seen where the film goes from here, it should finish with lifetime business of around 110 – 115 crore.
Overseas, ADHM is the second highest grosser of the year after Salman Khan’s Sultan. Karan Johar as director and a strong star cast has ensured a very healthy overseas total.

- ADHM is Ranbir Kapoor’s third highest career grosser, after Barfi (108 cr) and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (188 cr).
- ADHM is the fourth 100 crore grosser for Anushka Sharma after PK (341 cr), Sultan (301 cr) and Jab Tak Hai Jaan (120 cr).
- ADHM is the highest domestic grosser for Karan Johar.
- ADHM is (and should remain) the third highest grosser for Dharma Productions after Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (188 cr) and Agneepath (120 cr).
- ADHM is currently the second highest grosser overseas, but should finish as the 3rd highest grosser overseas behind Sultan and Dangal. Dear Zindagi and Befikre could surprise as Aditya Chopra films do well overseas and Gauri Shinde’s last film English Vinglish did well too.
- It’s the fourth highest grosser for Fox Star Studio after Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Bang Bang and MS Dhoni The Untold Story.

And being his fan i am confident that if he does masterpiece then there will be no stopping for his film. I will really want Dangal to beat PK if it’s a great movie but I’m being realistic here. Last time Aamir came with an offbeat movie Talaash, it got semi hit verdict. Before that another offbeat movie of Aamir, Taare Zameen Par released on Christmas and it was only superhit. Dangal looks offbeat, believe it or not. And I’m no one to tell whether u r Aamir fan or not. But Aamir is an intellectual in real life, so I expect his fans to also show some sensibility.

@mr bollywood(aamir), I know that there is no rule like that, it’s just my personal opinion that fans should also learn something from their idol rather than just idol worshipping them. And PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan were never offbeat. Just bcoz the movie is different doesn’t means it’s offbeat or niche. PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan had lots of entertainment value and had pan India appeal which seems to be lacking in Dangal. Yes, we shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover and that’s why I said that Dangal ‘looks’ offbeat. It’ll only be the WOM which will decide whether Dangal can beat PK or not. And Dangal being a masterpiece is’nt enough to beat PK record. It should also has the pan India appeal of 3 Idiots and PK. Lagaan, DCH, RDB and TZP were also masterpiece but weren’t blockbusters bcoz of lack of mass appeal.

@Ally Taare zameen par was a blockbuster. It earned 3 times more than its budget. Some idiotic sites have changed the verdict to super hit but when a film is made on a budget of less than 20 cr and earns more than 60 cr in 2007, then it should be blockbuster.
Ajay has the guts to take on a director who is well established and is in the industry for more than 20 years… So called superstar run away from the date which was booked before 1 year.. Lol

I have watched the trailer of Dangal and then I’m saying that it’s offbeat. An offbeat movie is a movie which is different from regular masala movies in terms of story with less entertainment value, that’s what I found in Dangal. Even indicine has said in trailer review that Dangal seems to be having less entertainment value, so it’s not just me who’s saying this. And entertainment is also relative for people. Urban audience will find DCH entertaining but not the audience of small cities. Majority of Indian audience finds OTT action and candy floss romance entertaining.
