They say star power is all about the opening day and opening weekend collections of a film. So we decided to list the first day collections of every lead actor’s last movie release, along with factors surrounding the release of their film.
With a solo Diwali holiday release, Shahrukh Khan leads by a distance. In fact, the first day collections of SRK’s Happy New Year is higher than the combined first day collections of films starring Emraan Hashmi, Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Shahid Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Varun Dhawan! Same goes for the opening that films like Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Dhoom 3, PK have taken.

It also goes to show that the Khans (SRK, Salman, Aamir) are the biggest crowd pullers in the industry and festive holiday releases have a huge advantage over normal releases.
Hrithik Roshan comes second in the list, the only actor who can consistently deliver a 25 crore+ opening day, even though his film released with another keenly-awaited film like Haider. Bang Bang also had lower ticket prices as compared to Eid, Diwali or Christmas releases.
Akshay Kumar needs to up his game and take PR / Marketing of his films more seriously. His latest release Baby was trending non-stop on social media websites like Twitter, but there was hardly any real buzz outside the internet world. The opening day business of Baby has sent shockwaves in the trade, as it was among 3 of the biggest releases in the first half of 2015. A 9 crore opening is simply not good enough, considering the costs and what Akshay charges for his films.

I totally agree that Akshay was to work on PR and marketing of his films.. Baby had everything going for it.. Neeraj Pandey movie, great reviews, no major competition.. but 9 crore opening is just too poor. Even youngsters like Varun, Sid, Ranveer can get those numbers. Even under performer like Tevar and Kill Dil collected 7 crore and a superb movie like Baby gets just 9??
Ungli was delayed.Emran had cameo.More suitable raja natwarlal 6.5cr with ugly heroine,less screen,buzz.

I dont understand the obsession with first day or first week collection. A simple question. What is more important, scoring 25 runs in first over and getting out or starting slowly but ending your “lifetime” innings at 100+? Anyways Khans, HR, Ranbir are the best bet for getting a great “first over.”
These days most movies play T20 match. A quick fire 25 in first over could prove to be crucial. Opening day and weekend is very important IMO, otherwise no chance to score big.
I like test match movies like ZNMD, Vicky Donor or PK
This year Fan and Dil Dhadakne Do are my picks.
How is PK a test match? It opened 26 cr on non holiday and then scored huge in weekend. First week was highest of all time. Even 3 Idiots too started fast before setting a record.
Pk is Sehwag in Test Match lol. Because it was the only big film without record breaking first weekend to collect more than 3.5 times it’s weekend. You have to call it big and long innings.
Yes, it was huge weekend for non-holiday film but 3.5 times weekend is most certainly a test match long innings. (All test matches don’t necessarily begin with slow first overs.)
But still a decent opening has become a necessity in today’s times.Since the lifespan of movies have been reduced to 2-3 weeks they need to rake in good moolah in the first weekend itself.Special 26 was a brilliant movie but due to poor opening it was declared a semi-hit/hit despite doing good business in 2nd and 3rd week

@gj007 don’t compare cricket with movies.. Getting huge first day and weekend shows the huge popularity of stars. Rest is depending on movie contents. If somebody scored 25 in first over doesn’t means he should get out in next over.

Agree though its not realistic to compare a film with cricket. But yes t20 make money and popular star but test cricket make a player legend and ensure their long career.If opening is still mark of stardom than I don’t think akki,ajay and Aamir knows as superstar when they were not huge early in their career.Better skills,dedication and hard work is key in every field.
And opening is not always depend on superstar alone other factors also made an impact.
Opening is depend on promotion …. Hopeless actors like arjun kapoor , varun , sidhart get backing by high promotional activities with bony kapoor etc…….

Undeserving entrants in this list is probably siddharrth malhotra.. Ritesh was the real powerhouse of villain..and also ankit tiwari… Without these 2 factors..ek villain would be struggling for 6 cr forget 16cr.. Real sidhart malhotra is hasee toh phasee 3.4cr opening!
Arjun kapoor will sink badly now because he has no films, no real acting talent too.. Tevar got 3K screens,5 month promotion on city tours and fb/twitter and opening 7cr is just too low….

Reason;
1. Our bhai have the highest opening day collection for his non festival movie ,kick, having big clash with a regular ticket price and audience rejected remake script.
2. Our bhai have more fans in Internet,facebook,Twitter; that’s why he always win every poll on a big margin.
I still maintain that SRK has the biggest star power b/c he attracts to the masses and the classes. sure his films might not go on to collect 250+cr due to mixed wom and average content but he has set new opening records almost every single time (Ra1, CE, HNY). Even Fan will take a bigger opening than Kick and PK on a non-holiday.

Well according to me it’s quite a good opening due to the following reasons – :
1. Baby is just not a big budget masala festival release.
2. There are no chartbuster songs.
3. Its does not have that universal appeal, it is an espionage action thriller film.
4. The ticket prices are not increased.
5. It has released in just 2700 screens on a working holiday.
so i think it’s wrong to point on akshay kumar. He is a big superstar and whenever he comes up with a big budget universal film and one that is marketed widely, the results automatically comes say for example rowdy rathode which broke the non holiday opening day records in 2012.

Interesting article . The 1st day collections are really important . I have not seen Baby and i will definitely see it . Baby looks like a solid movie . I don’t care how much money it collects . It should definitely cross 100 CR and that will happen . I don’t know what the audiences want ? Whether they want Box Office or Good Content Oriented Movied . If a bad movie becomes a Blockbuster, people say it collected huge money but was a terrible movie . If there is a good movie, people and critics like the movie and appreciate the content but sometimes those movies don’t work at the Box Office or become under performers . Please clarify to which category do you belong ?
These actors should learn from srk and salman for high promotion. But instead superstars like akshay kumar, ajay devgn , emraan hashmi are doing too much mistakes.

who has told akki to not promote baby,sp26 ??? Plz promote it like hny…. Don’t blame srk for evrything….. Put good marketing and promotion in films…. And plz put some good songs also.. Learn from srk .. He made average hny to collect 200cr. And plz avoid online marketing …
2) AJAY DEVGN—-
plz change ur manager…. Ur manager is making you sign garbage after garbage like himmatwala, aj ….!! And plz hire a good choreographer for you…. And yes also put gud music composers in ur films….. Avoid south remake and don’t blame srk for everything…… Keeda???? Taaki taaki ???? Gangster baby ?????

3) EMRAAN HASHMI—
King of delayed films… Who told u to release delayed films?? Rush, ungli what is this? ?? Jholu ram ??? Pakeezah??? Seriously?? Don’t damage yourself by putting such songs….focus also on promotion..
Though i am a akshay fan i think he is idiot in terms of business.fist of all why he releases 3-4 movies in a year? it is main reason for bad opening.secondly he is doing film with small banner,low profile heroin low promotion.thirdly his movies release date is very bad especially brother.it is most anticipated movie of akshay in 2015.it was supposed to release on 2nd october.this movie could regain his stardom.But he sacrifice this movie for singh is king which is yet not confirmed .Moreover it is a risky project.If brother can not get 20 crore opening then i think akkis carrier will be in danger. This is sad but true.One more thing why gabbar name changed to main gabbar.It will also effect its opening.boxoffice Opening is the most important thing in todays movies.Akshay should understand this and he has to do less film with bigbanner and big actress to regain his stardom.

If BABY promote like hny then it will be collected 15cr plus. No matter verdict depend on lifetime collection.
Examples, KICK opening day 26.52cr lifetime is 233cr Verdict Blockbuster.
PK opening day 26.63cr lifetime is 338cr verdict ATBB
See HNY opening day 44.97cr lifetime is 203cr verdict is superhit That’s different only. Hope BABY emarge super-hit status. If BABY Tuesday collection is 8cr then baby sure collect above 125cr.Hey Baby win the people heart and rock everywhere.
@indicine: On which collection should we believe trade/producer? Because According to trade HNY earned 40.02cr on first day, Baby earned 7.86cr. but in case of Kick, PK, Singham returns first day collection were same whether it is trade/producer…

BABY was’nt much commercial film,neither it had popular music,neither it had Deepika Padukone,plus it had a clash against DKD,it got 2650 screens which is less than Tevar..

In young actor siddarth and sushant singh rajput has potential to be next superstar. Who think ritesh was power than keep believeing that after bank chor we will see. He is a good actor but nt has stardom like sid has. Bank chor will be super hit.
Ek Villan was super hit because of sid -shardha chemistry then ritesh and then ankit Tiwari.
Even though I am not a big fan of opening days but no one can deny its importance, since 90% of movies collects more than 90% of their collection in first 10-12 days.
For real test better to take an avg of weekend in last 5 films just as u do for lifetime collections
