Mohit Suri’s Aashiqui 2 is the first runaway success of the year so far. The intensely romantic film starring newcomers Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor is faring well across the nation, even at places where it didn’t open well last Friday.
Surprisingly, collections improved over every weekday (except Thursday) and the film also benefitted from ‘May Day’ a holiday in most parts of the country.
After putting up strong numbers in it’s first weekend (Rs 19.25 crore net), the film collected approximately 16.2 crore over the weekdays to collect Rs 35.45 crore (approx) in it’s first week at the domestic box office.
The film wasn’t released in overseas markets like US, UK and Australia.

According to Mahesh Bhatt, Aashiqui 2 cost Rs 16 crore (9 cr budget + 7 cr P&A) and most of the investment was recovered in it’s first weekend itself. If the film holds up in it’s second weekend, it could well be the first Bollywood ‘BLOCKBUSTER’ of 2013.
