In the last few days, every second comment on our website is about Ek Tha Tiger crossing the magical 200 crore figure of 3 Idiots. While Salman fans are confident of the film joining the 200 crore club, his critics are quick to point out that Bodyguard crashed after the initial extended weekend. The neutrals believe, Ek Tha Tiger is not the most deserving film to go past an ‘all-time classic’.
Our take – box-office records are meant to be broken and 3 Idiots has held on strongly (and deservingly) to the top-spot for three years now.
As things stand today, with higher ticket prices and many more screens (almost double), Ek Tha Tiger has had a huge head-start.
So far in 10 days, the Salman Khan film has 147.6 crores in the bank. At the same stage, 3 Idiots did 90.5 crore nett.
The difference could well be the second weekend, when 3 Idiots went from strength to strength. If ETT picks up over the coming weekend, it’s very likely to cross the 202 crore mark and even surpass that by a decent margin. If it crashes, then it’s likely to shut-shop with 180-185 crore nett.

UPDATE: Ek Tha Tiger had a very good 2nd weekend of around 21 crores. The second Sunday business was more than double of it’s second Friday.
After 13 days, the difference between 3 Idiots (130.5 cr) and Ek Tha Tiger (178.17 cr) is still huge. It should add another 7-8 crores by Thursday, after which, the release of Joker will have a significant impact on ETT.

UPDATE (1st Sep): Ek Tha Tiger has dropped this week with the release of Joker. But the fact that Joker has already been rejected, gives ETT a good chance to put up better numbers on Saturday (today) and Sunday, as it should be the first choice this week too.
The film stills needs about 13.5 crores to cross 200 crores and about 15.5 to beat 3 Idiots. Difficult!

ek tha tiger will cross it… because in above article the business of salman 1st week is better than 3 idiots in 2 weeks.. so if it goes like bodyguard which is the worst case collectiong 20 cr in 2nd week than still it can pass 3 idiots because it will run at least 4 weeks so game on.. beleive it can easily break it
Last year Bodyguard made 115crs in 9 days.
After first week it made 33crs in remaining weeks.
But the BG had compition from Mere Brother ki Dulhan(Which is a hit) in second week.
ETT made 155crs in 9 days.
Now ETT need 45crs to touch 200crs mark & 48crs to cross 3Idiots.
Also there is no compition untill Joker’s release.
So 33crs of BG(with tough compition) & 48 Crs needed for ETT(without compition) may be possible.
Jump Saturday-Sunday will decide it.

Even though i dint like the movie much, except the action sequences, but now we have 2 accept it that salman is undoubtedly the biggest superstar of the country, man… Just because of the his sheer star power the movie is on the verge of breaking the record of a classic movie called 3 idiots, practically speaking even if the film crashes in its 2nd week, then also the movie would collect around 45 crores, that means in 3rd weekend itself ett will break the record…

With a solo run ETT made about 150-160 crs. in 9 days It’s already crashing in some circuits and there will be competition next week. I double it will beat 3I records worldwide.

Ett will have no problem till 31st collecting as much as it can(min 40 crores if not more). So atleast 190 crores (worst case scenario) till the release of ‘joker’. So just 10C short of magical 200. Joker’s release may change things, but ett only needs just 10c and as joker will have lesser screen release compared to ett, salman will have some theatres(single) left, so easily ‘200+C’ looks like a smooth ride untill&unless Joker applies brakes on ett’s record breaking joy ride. But if joker is not accepted, then ett may collect much more. So all the best to joker. And then coming to joker, the story of the movie looks new/weird/alien/experimental, whatever u want to call it, and except for akki’s fans, the promos havent excited others much. Akki’s movies mostly wear ‘commercially-made’ clothes, so we have to wait and watch if akki’s experimental movie looks good in ‘commercially-made clothes’ or not. Akki fans pray that this movie shouldnt be an another ra.1 in the making or else ‘joker’ will become the biggest ‘joke’ of bollywood this year.

I bet ,YRF is targetting 200 crore, for brand reputation, if ETT doesnt drop heavily they will keep on exaggerating till it reach 200 crore. Real collections, by BOI, will be 180-185 and YRF will project it as 200 crore net.

Bol Bacchan earned 100cr and ETT will stop at 170 cr and no one else can break amir khan’s record coz his film has good Content and Stardom Both! Talaash will do it (200cr) and surprise u all, just watch out guys
There’s nothing wrong in ett breaking 3i records. Ett is a pure action movie, with many claiming it to have the best action among all the bollywood movies till date. What’s wrong if more and more people watching ett in theatres help it in breaking as many records as possible. And most people may like 3i but for some ett is equally as a good a movie, where action is concerned. And some people always degrade salman’s movies as silly, ridiculous with low iq but still they are breaking records. How does it help, if an artistically and cinematically made brilliant movie, even appreciated by critics, when it burns a hole in producers pockets and even kills them( 1 producer/ex actor(telugu) poured all of his hard earned money in a movie, which was made with new comers. The movie though got some of the best reviews from all, including critics for its brilliance, but it bombed big time at the box office, resulting in huge losses for him. The poor producer was so depressed that he committed suicide. And ironically later it won many awards including best movie awards(all were state gov. awards and not the filmfare/stardust… type of ‘fixed and scripted’ awards) though the movie did not even recover 60% of its budget) ? On the other hand salman’s entertaining masala movies either break records or set new records. I mean, now a days, its not about good movie or bad movie but its all about a profitable movie or loss making movie.
