PRDP Saturday Box Office Update

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is looking at another solid day at the box office as the film is likely to collect a little less than 30 crore on Saturday. The Salman Khan starrer dropped in the morning, but business has picked up quite significantly evening onwards.

As of 8:30PM on Saturday, the advance booking for the night shows at multiplexes is good and families have come out in big numbers to watch the film.

The 3-day business is likely to come in the 100 crore plus range, for the Hindi version only, which would be fantastic since it only had one major holiday in its first 3 days at the box office. The film would then be targeting 4-day weekend business of 135 crore plus.

On social media, the response to PRDP has been mixed, but such films do hold tremendous appeal at smaller centres. Barjatya’s last film Vivah was rejected by the critics, it didn’t do well in metro cities either, but was a record grosser in a circuit like Bihar.

  • So finally , I managed to watch PRDP on the name of “Team outing”. I was not very much interested to catch it in theatre nor I had pre-planned it. But few of my colleagues had planned an outing and they dragged me forcibly . Now I tell you , this is where “Holiday release” plays a major role. We searched a lot for other options (as we were already aware about the reviews of PRDP), but couldn’t get a single movie to catch up. Few of my colleagues , who are a die-hard fan of Salman khan, too, played a vital role to gather all of us for PRDP. Next, this is how , clash affects the collection of a movie. Had we given another option today, we would have preferred that option over PRDP for sure. Anyway, will continue to my experience of PRDP.

As expected, our Audi was packed and not a single seat was empty. Also, one thing I noticed (which I don’t remember when I saw last time), around 20-30% audiences were 60+ in age. So those who are telling that “despite of being a family drama” it collected so much. Come on, this family genre and Sooraj factor is working in its favour and not against it.

Coming to the movie, its something which makes you yawn at times. And this was not the case with me, but with most of the audiences . After a certain time, they were freely roaming outside the Audi and were coming back after 5-10 minutes. Means no body was really bothered what is happening inside. What I felt is, they have dragged it too much. There was no need of such a lengthy screenplay when the same could have conveyed within 2.5 hrs.
Few unnecessary and really boring sequences :

    1. Halo Re song : This song was total misfit. There was no need of adding it there. It just broke the whole sequence of the movie and audiences lost their grip from there on.
    2. Football match sequence : Again that could have been cut a lot short. They simply kept on dragging that sequence I don’t know for what reasons.
    3. Salman and Sonam’s emotional conversation at pool side : Again that was a boring and unnecessary sequence which may give a yawn even to a person who just finished his cup of coffee.
    4. Flashback , where all kids were shown singing and playing Piyano : Dude, its 2015, not 99/00, where you will put a song like “Ye to sach hai k bhagwan hai” and “A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I” and it will connect the audiences right away. This sequence was looking so artificial and people were laughing instead of getting emotional.
There are many other sequences , which didn’t do anything except boring the audiences.

Coming to the performance , Salman Khan looked decent when he performed “Vijay Singh” , but again he crossed all the limits of “non-acting”, when he portrayed “Prem Dilwala”.
Anupam and Swara were good. I didn’t have much hopes from Sonam and thus no comments on her. Arman Kohli created new records of overacting.

One thing which could be admired about PRDP and which will make those torturous three hours a worth is the cinematography . Full credits to Sooraj for that. Each and every scene looks perfect. The set they have chosen, the palace they have shown, The Sheeshmahal, everything is damn good. Once you are getting bored with the slow pace of the movie, just keep looking at the background and locations and it will cure you till an extent.

Coming to the story , was there any ? I wish , Sooraj would have invested at least 10% of wisdom on story, what he invested on cinematography and choosing the locations. First of all, Vijay Singh’s accident, then his treatment and Vijay’s minions finding “Prem Dilwala”, all these sequences seem to be inspired from “Don”. The only difference is, Don meets an accident with his lavish car whereas Vijay sing was going in his old fashioned chariot. Also, not sure what made them to do this but they seems to be using “Dilwale” name multiple times. I don’t know if this was the strategy to attract SRK fans or they are kind enough to promote “Dilwale”, but there are instances, when no body calls Prem as “Prem” and they call him “Dilwale”.
Finally, If they would have cut short this movie to 2 hrs 20 mins or so, result would not have been this much worse. But what they have shown now is complete misfit and nowhere relates to the current era.

Positives : Not much, except the brilliant cinematography and locations. Also, few emotinal scenes, specially the one where Salman hugs Niel post the fight (in Sheeshmahal), were good. But movie fails to create any impact on audience.

Conclusion : PRDP is meant for Salman fans. If you are his fan, you should go and watch it and show your support towards him. For neutral movie buffs, I would request , if you want a nice sleep then go and pay 300/400, else don’t even bother to watch it as it will bore you till an extent that you will lose your temper.
Also, if you are going to watch it keeping HAHK and MPK in mind then I am sorry, you will be disappointed like anything. Leave those movies, its not even closer to Salman’s Ready (Which itself was a crap), when it comes to entertainment.

Rating : Already , we have various ratings ranging from 2.0 to 4.0 , so I don’t want to rate it as one can get the idea from my review. But @indicine , you rated it 4.0. I mean really ?
I read somewhere that you rated 4.0 to HNY as well (though I was not active during HNY release). Being an SRK fan, I can say that HNY didn’t deserve 4.0. And same is the case with PRDP. I don’t know what made you to rate it this much. But one request, please raise the bar. Don’t rate a movie just to please certain readers. Many people have faith in your reviews and they decide to watch a movie based on your review. You are playing with that belief.

  • The film is really a good one.I am a die hard SRK’s fan, but I have to admit Salman is from another planet.Other actors can’t compete with him.#PRDP crossed 100cr in 3 days with negative star cast only +ve thing in the film is Salman. He proved he is the most loved superstar in the country.

  • Lifetime : 200 to 240 crore maximum !!!
I said no chance to emerge a huge grosser like bajrangi bhaijaan remember it !!!!

  • What about other versions? movie will grow up on sunday. don’t know where srkians will hide their face when prdp cross hny’s hindi trade figure in only 8-9 days.

  • The show , where I was in was packed with 100% occupancy and same was the case with other shows as told by the staff on Duty. This will continue till Sunday as most of the tickets were already sold out before the negative reviews were popping out. Weekend will be in the range of 125cr-135cr.
I never believe in critics , but the response of actual movie buffs and response from them is quite disappointing. So all those, who were claiming a 350 and 400 cr storm, please note that now even BB is out of reach let alone PK.

@Indicine : There is no comparison of Vivaah and PRDP. At any given day, Vivaah is 2.5 times better than PRDP. I thought that all these negativities about PRDP are inspired from hatred and in actual, the movie is not that bad. But after watching it today, I am forced to say that all those negative reviews are Inch-by_inch true.

  • In 90s era or even before the films becomes successful only because of its content and the best example of it is SRK in DDLJ
but today films becomes success only due to starpower but not the content….example SRK in HNY or Aamir in Dhoom3 or Salman in KICK

  • Prdp rocks only hindi version 3 days 100 cr it means first week will be highest of all time beating doom 2 record – as first week higher record still for doom 3 – Salman rocks

  • Good ….
Collection aisa nehi rahega bich m hny jaisa tham jayega…..dekhta hu ..kiya hota h total..
    .(ab waiting dilwale)

  • @Indicine : I have posted my “PRDP experience” for the last time, so please publish it. I feel that if I have invested a considerable amount of time to draft that “experience” then it should reach to maximum people. So I have posted it on 2-3 articles. But this will be the last one. I hate spamming and won’t spam your next article with this review.

  • Kuch bhi kaho lekin film click ho gayi hai aur family audiance believe on salman because he is only reason for bringing together our families

  • @indicine

social sites means how much big..?

    India’s population is 125crs…

how many are on social sites..?

how many of them are part of this fan wars..?

According to me its just 1% part of audience & 99% of audience is not part of these social sites & not aware about polls & ratings.

Film holding well on 2nd & 3rd day despite working days… it proved that this so called mixed response is not making effect.

so big Sunday is coming….so already 135crs are on cards in just 4 days.

    Monday will decide the lifetime…

  • due to north India circuit the movie survives, otherwise the collection would be less.I am pretty sure in week days prdp will struggle a lot.

  • South audiences are bashing srk which is intolerable for a bollywood movie lover like us they are saying that king Kong is a small star than prabhas which is really pathetic to hear #sad_but_true

    The reason is
    500cr club
Only 3 stars able to achieve it
    1.Amir
    2 . Salman
    3.Prabhas

A star call himself king of bollywood lekin ek regional star ne uski marli which is really pathetic

An actor in the industry for about more than 30 years & a regional star is ahead of him in terms box office

Dear haklu fans if you really want to save ur face don’t drag box office into the account first beat prabhas record then come to fight with mega star SALMAN & AMIR

  • Yo!! Such 90s type Drama movie thrashed all other stars movie in Highest weekend collection n In just Three days Crossed Akki’s this years all movies Lifetime Collection :D

    Beta Isse kehte Hai Stardom

First i entered theater with expextation ofblight hearted comedy with story and movie didnt dissapointed me

He has perfect comic timing he rocked
Second comes swara bhaskar awesome acting
Direction–sooraj bharjatya should have edited and keprt some twist at last that would have more imoact neverthless he directed woth his style
Music-loved every song especially aaj unsey milna hai

Overall a good family entertainer with good acting dont conpare it with bajrangi bhaijaan two genres are different

so big Sunday is coming….so already 135crs are on cards in just 4 days.

And if i am not wrong then i think indicine you predicted 135crs weekend in best case scenario…?

so its clear that there is huge difference between—

    mixed response on social sites
    &
response from actual audience who saw film in theaters…

And its not too away Monday will clear everything…

  • weekend 100cr+ hindi & extended weekend 140 cr.all versions.despite mixed reviews it’s HUGE..SUPER STARDOM OF MEGA STAR..

  • This film is not as half as good as Bajrangi Bhaijaan…….. Weekend will be huge but it could face drop as from Monday itself….. This movie does not meet the expectations it created prior its release.

  • Fakeness at its best…BOI stated it may not break BBs weekend record of 101 crs…and yaha par 135 crs ki bat chal rahi hey.

  • @indicine your last paragraph says it all! Excellent point! It’s mixed on social media but that too won’t affect people flocking together with families to go and watch it,esp in the interior regions of India where family values and customs are the epitome of their day to day priorities.
