Producer Rakesh Roshan has confirmed to Bombay Times that his upcoming production ‘Kaabil’ will release in theatres on Republic Day next year.
Roshan’s confirmation comes a day after Shah Rukh Khan visited the residence of his ‘Karan Arjun’ director to sort out the release date issue.
After the meeting, Shah Rukh had tweeted “Met friend/mentor/family after many a days. Mr. R.Roshan reminded me.. it’s not important to do 2 much, it’s important to get 1 right. Thx sir.”
A day after the meeting, Roshan told Bombay Times “My film will release on Republic Day weekend as planned. I don’t know about them. Farhan (Akhtar) is not in town. So maybe after he returns, we’ll know”
Talking about Shah Rukh’s visit, Roshan Sr said “We were just sitting and chatting like old times. It was good to catch up as we have done many films together – I gave Shah Rukh a break in King Uncle, then Koylaa and Karan Arjun”
Meanwhile, trade sources say, Rakesh Roshan has already committed to his old-time distributors and sold a few territories of his film. In the past, Roshan has sold territory rights of his films like Krrish 3, Krrish, Koi Mil Gaya etc to individual distributors even before the film went on floors.
With the kind of mutual trust that Roshan shares with his distributors and the fact that the trade in general is against corporates taking over, it’ll be a catch 22 situation for the makers of Raees. They can’t postpone the film again, but releasing it against ‘Kaabil’ isn’t going to be easy either – especially during a non-festive weekend like Republic Day.

Either of the two movies should shift their release date.They can’t afford a clash on a not-so lucrative weekend.Even though as an Srk fan I would love Raees to have a solo release on Republic Day but morally the release date belongs to Kaabil since they announced it first and it was foolish on Excel’s part to announce their release date on the basis of assumptions.
Don’t want the mutual respect between two superstars to be lost because of this clash.
Raees and Kabil will suffer hugely due to this clash..

I think raees would come on 19th may post ipl weekend..but I think eid was the best date for eid..inspite clash with sultan it would have easily crossed a profit venture mark…nd 26 jan can’t accomodate 2 big movies…but why raees team is eyeing for republic day team….one thing is sure kaabil will release on 26th Jan…

Great decision by Rakesh Roshan to stick to Republic day weekend to release Kaabil as the shooting is almost completed by 75% and its really foolish to postponed the movie for others sake..!! Will be treat to see Hrithik Roshan in such a short time after Mohenjodaro..!!!
Raees makers should have release the movie in Bakrid festival instead of targetting Republic day weekend as they already aware that Hrithik Kaabil is scheduled to release on that weekend and its called their stupidity..!!!

Good decision by Rakesh Ji . Kaabil should release on 26th Jan 2017 . The makers of Raees have been foolish in their approach . First by postponing Raees from Eid even though it was announced way back in July 2015 . Second by announcing Raees to release on 26th Jan 2017 despite knowing that Kaabil is scheduled to release on the same date . There was not any logic in delaying the release by 6 months because it is completely ready . In this entire controversy Ritesh Sidhwani has been made the scapegoat . Ritesh confirmed on Twitter Raees has been postponed from Eid . After that all the SRK fans were extremely angry on him and were severely harsh on him . Honestly for this controversy Farhan, Ritesh and SRK are equally responsible . Raees is jointly produced by Excel Entertainment and Red Chillies so they are all responsible for this mess . I don’t know what will the makers of Raees do ? Whether they will be ready for another clash or shift the release date again or convince Rakesh Ji to postpone Kaabil on a later date .
