No. 73 Shanthinivas – Movie Review

Inspired by the grand success of ‘My Autograph’, the very talented actor cum director Sudeep is back with his new movie 73 Shaanthi Nivaasa. Now the question is can he expect the same response from the audience.

The movie is a remake of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Bawarchi. The point to be noted here is that this movie has already been remade in kannada as ‘Sakalavalabha’ with Shashi Kumar in the lead. So the story here, is already familiar to many kannada moviegoers.

73 Shanthi Nivasa is simple clean and a perfect family entertainer. The story begins in a home named 73 Shaanthi Nivaasa, where the members of the family literally hate each other. They face all the problems that a joint family experiences in India. Raghu (Sudeep) enters the house as a cook and the rest is all about how he solves the problem prevailing in the house. But whether Raghu is really as innocent as he looks? This suspense makes you to stick on to your seats until the final reels unfold.

Sudeep once again succeeds in giving a vulgarity free family movie. He has excellent directional skills. As an actor his screen presence, dialogue delivery and expressions are brilliant. Master Hirannaiah, Srinivas Prabhu, Vyshalli Kasarvalli, Anu prabhakar, Chitra Shenoy and Deepu have done justice to their roles. Komal once again steals the show with his role as a comedian. Vishnuvardhan’s and Shivrajkumar’s special appearance is the icing on the cake. Kalyan’s music is another plus point in the movie.

The cinematography is top class. The lighting in the Melukote Temple is simply oustanding. Sources claim Sudeep has spent Rs 20 lakhs on the lighting. It’s also true that the house in which the movie has been shot was deserted for the past 43 years!!!

A few dialouges in the movie are in Tulu, which is sure to attract people from Malnad and Mangalore who generally speak Tulu.

If u are looking for a movie to go with your entire family, this rainy, then 73 Shaanti Nivaasa is the perfect choice. Go for it

Rating – 4 / 5 (Brilliant)
