You can’t make a bad film work, nor can you kill a good film: Aamir Khan

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has said that people who target films for cheap publicity, cannot kill a good film, if people like it.

“When people like the film, then it becomes a hit. When we say ‘hit’, we mean people like that film. The only reason behind a hit film is that how good you have made it. And if you have made a bad movie, no matter how well you market that film, it’s not going to do well.” Aamir said.

The actor went on to add that no matter how much a film is promoted, they cannot make a bad film work. At the same time, they can’t kill a good film.

“No matter what you do, you can’t make a bad film work. And no matter what you do, you can’t kill a good film. It works both ways” he said.

Talking about films being targeted for cheap publicity, Aamir said “It is an unfortunate fact that nowadays, every film seems to have attracted some or the other controversy. There was a case of plagiarism filed against Rajkumar Hirani for ‘PK’. The person filing the case got his name on the front page, which is what he wanted. So, it has now become easy to get publicity”

  • Don’t agree!! Andaz Apna Apna, Rocket Singh, Being Cyrus, Dil Chahta Hai, Gangs of Wasseypur etc are many great movies which have under performed.

  • But aamir khan u r not a superstar unless its CHRISTMAS… rmember ur talaash n dhobi ghaat..

Bhai Khiladi n King r a lot better than u…

Even underperforming films like jai ho n hny of superstars collect 100 cr n 200 cr…

  • Very Good.
in That Case baby iz a hit .
lots of appreciation nd gud collections too .
film like HNY bang bang should only be average. 150 budget nd also Taste less movies .

  • I don’t think any big movie starring any of the Khans can flop unlike it is for the niche audience with a non-holiday release. No matter how bad it is

  • Bad films have also worked in the past..the only difference is that they were saved by huge openings because of the presence of huge superstars in them

  • well said aamir that no matter how much u market a bad film u cant make it hit.

this is a big slap on the face of all those who always say that films like yjhd,2 states, humpty, soty, ajab prem, gundau, ram leela etc worked just bcz of marketing

  • “The only reason behind a hit film is that how good you have made it.And if you have made a bad movie, no matter how well you market that film, it’s not going to do well.”

I slightly disagree! Bad Movies like Action Jackson,Himmatwala,Besharam,Tevar, Humshakals have flopped at BO, But what about those Bad films who had worked like Ready, R Rajkumar, Rawdy and so on?

Then again Majority of Good films have also worked at BO! But still there are good films who have flopped! Eg. Swadesh,Lootera, Dedh Ishqiya, Shahid,Guzaarish etc!

You cann’t consider a film as Good if it’s HIT or Bad if a film is Flop!

Just becoz Ready is a Blockbuster and Queen is a Superhit it doesn’t mean The former one is a better film. But yes we can consider a film Bad or Good based on the “TREND” in the collection!

Opening as well as Lifetime depends upon many factors barring its content!
“Genre” is playing a huge role in BO! Mass-friendly films generally do higher collections!

  • Yeh good movie did stedy bisuness but if there is big star then bad movie will also open well n do good business example bang bang n hny. And sometime good movie also didnot do well example swades n loteera.

  • Bad films like lungi express n halloween party on diwali were well marketed pieces of kraps but in the end there were nothing but an eyesore in the list of highest grossing films. For every krappy lootera that rightfully fails sadly a crapfest like aforementioned craps or a bong bong, agony path escapes n earns ten times what it deserved..,!

  • I don’t agree at all with him here.
There have been lots of bad films that have emerged as HITs n there will be in futre, lots of good films have doomed too.
Marketing, promotions, music, promos, release dates all play significant role in deciding the journey of a film.
Cheap films like ragini mms2 get hit easily while BABY,D day, swades struggled.

  • I agree but what about crap movie like manipulated K3, Bang Bang, Angrypath, hny and gunday which movie all crap and crap. Anyway last year too much manipulated bo collection.

  • But some people like @sambuddha don’t possess their own opinions at all. They think whatever a person says is ideally correct.Aamir is not a God,he’s a human..he can make mistakes..it should be you who should be able to discern the statement.
Gunday is in the IMDB bottom 100 list, but it is a hit on b.o but that does’nt change the fact that it was a bad film or to be fair a badly made film.

  • To some extend that’s right. But if a Mega star act in bad film, even with worst script, worst director, negative reviews by critics, phir bhi film will be Super Hit.
    just like King SRK….

  • Aamir always tries 2 prove tht he does content films & others like srk don’t(By saying indirectly as he is jealous of him).so aamir wht about d3?
While srk is the only actor who has done films of all genres(2 prove 2 srk haters how many quality films he has done),romance-ddlj,dtph,vz etc action thriller-don2 masala-ce,mhn,oso etc psyco thriller-darr patriotic-cdi social cause-swadesh mankind-mnisk.
Aamir everytime tries 2 prove himself better thn srk.but whole world knows who is better actor.

  • @sambuddha:: Aamir has openly lambasted your fav. show AIB Knockout also…so why don’t you blindly agree with him on that like you did here????

  • Won’t agree with his statement. Andaaz Apna Apna, Swades, Earth, Dil Se, Khamoshi, Lakshya and many other terrific films were killed due to many reasons. Some due to niche appeal, some due to poor marketing, some due to bad release date.

Aamir’s own Dhoom 3 was a monster hit compared to his niche yet very well made Talaash. Go some years back and Rang De Basanti, a terrific film was only a ‘hit’ compared to the super-hit Fanaa which was in my opinion his very average film.

Those are his views and I respectfully disagree with them. @Indicine what’s he doing next? Seriously, it’s nearly 2 months after PK and we have no official announcement of Dangal!
