With numbers pouring in from all over, the first day collections of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani are about 5-10% higher than what was estimated last night (Read). The difference has been the business at single-screens where the film has exceeded all trade expectations.
At multiplexes too the film has done much better than what was expected prior to it’s release. In fact, the multiplex business at most centres is on par or higher than Salman Khan’s Dabangg 2!
A lot of people asked us if we were joking, when we published an article titled ‘Can YJHD beat Dabangg 2 – the highest non-holiday opener of all time’. But now that the actual figures from a couple of circuits are in, the film has an outside chance of crossing the 20 crore mark – to not only stake it’s claim on the highest non-holiday opening, but also double the first day collections of Ranbir Kapoor’s previous biggest opener Raajneeti.
Make no mistake, these are mind-boggling numbers for a film released on around 15% fewer screens than Dabangg 2! And while comparisons have only been made with non-holiday releases, the first day collections of YJHD is higher than most holiday releases.
No wonder.

Akshay wo star h jo khans se bhi aage h 2000 cr k saath.
@taxi Yes my naive friend I did not say that but my friend Hrithik obviously recalled a time when I would argue successfully that Srkians would use the staunch shoulders of Shreyas Talpade to shoot at Salman, hence the confusion…! ;-)

@soroop: If you really appreciate any actor who is doing good at Box office then why the h@ll you haven’t accepted that Salman is ruling Box office since last 3 years? The fact is support all except Salman, come one acknowledge it. There is nothing wrong in it, I dont like SRK and I proud to say it !!!!!

@hrithik. I always agreed Salman is no.1 in India after bodyguard. And no.1 wordwide after Ek tha tiger. But he is dethroned by Ranbir kapoor now. Now he is no more no.1 in India bcus look at the screen size of both dabangg 2 and YJHJ and it’s collection.
@hrithik. I have no grudges against Salman khan bcuz I am not jealous fan. I am happy that salman ruled indian boxoffice for 1 and half years. Now accept that Ranbir is new king in indian boxoffice, can u?

@soroop: Thanx for showing no grudges for Salman. I had already answered your question (before u asking) on Ranbir’s peformance review page. Still I will re-post it for you. 1 Blockbuster is not equal to 5 Blockbusters. It will be like trekking a tiny hill is not same as conquering Mount Everest. Though Ranbir have just passed Salman’s only non holiday record. In that case even Akshay’s RR (15 crores) also bettered Salman’s Ready (13 crores) for a non-holiday release. Did Akshay become No.1 after it? entire world knows how Salman reclaimed non holiday opening record again. One thing I agree that as of now Ranbir beats Salman only in opening of a non holiday but he is nowhere close to salman forget about becoming no.1 if u compare salman’s experience, charisma, 5 consecutive blockbusters, various box office records.
