Worrying signs for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale in some circuits

There are protests at a few places, a few shows have been cancelled and few others have been disrupted. The film hasn’t even got the kind of release it deserves, but there are worrying signs for Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale at centres where it opened well on Friday.

In cities like Bangalore and Mangalore, Dilwale has shown a drop in business, while Bajirao Mastani has picked up by 30-40%. The gap has also narrowed down in North India, where Dilwale was expected to dominate. These are ominous signs, because centres like these don’t usually drop on Saturday.

In the Maharashtra state, it’s a different story altogether. Bajirao Mastani is already leading at several multiplexes in cities like Mumbai and Pune. On Sunday, the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is almost certain to surpass the Rohit Shetty directed film and could do so by a decent margin.

At multiplexes, there was very little to choose between the two films on Saturday. It was on this day that both Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani were expected to show growth in the range of 10-15%. Bajirao Mastani has exceeded expectations with 20% growth, while Dilwale remained at around the same level as Friday.

There is a good chance that Bajirao Mastani could match the collections of Dilwale on Sunday and if that happens, the writing will be on the wall.

  • Let me give some fact – SLB decided to release his film on 18-Dec. SRK at that time did not decide his date, trade expected him to declare on 25-Dec. He was so arrogant and overconfident also declared his release date on 18-Dec. Had he released his film on 25th the collections would have increased by atleast 30-40 crores. Lesson, never be arrogant of your past success, study the present. Time was Yesterday yours during OSO days today it is with SLB.

  • Indian people are now fed up with big stars coning with poor films. They are trusting reviews and wom and then choosing which films to watch. BM deserves all the appreciation and from week 2 you will see screen count almost reversing of noth film as BM will just go way ahead. Also there is a chance that BM will have higher lifetime collection than dilwale.
Well done Indian audience. A slap on faces of all these masala filmmaker’s who think we are idiot and will watch all crap they make.

  • Idiots don’t just understand that protest against dilwale is going on all over the country but bajirao had faced protest only at two places and that too for only one day….

I also have got many messages asking me to boycott dilwale and watch Bajirao instead. And I have already watched Bajirao 3 times….LoL they are sending people to watch Bajirao who have actually came to watch Dilwale….

    Bajirao will destroy dilwale….
    Har har Mahadev

  • Since Friday evening BM is gaining… After morning show on Friday all site predicted 23or 24fr dw n 10 fr BM bt it came as 21n 13..on Saturday dilwale dropped further.. Other problem fr bollywood I feel is total pool is almost fix n any gain from BM sud cause drop in dilwale.. Any gain on Sunday by BM will keep dilwale on same level… As momentum is in favour of BM since Friday evening I hope on Monday BM sud match the fig of dilwale… Intolerance remark Wil definitely hurt dilwale in total collection.. It Wil nt reflect much in this weekend collection..

  • These protests are nothing…just wait and watch what’s gonna happen to that traitor Aamir. He’ll regret every word he said against the nation. I’m sure that people will teach him a lesson he won’t able to forget for rest of his life.

  • When you badly rehashed old films like Hum, DDLJ and Golmaal Series in a rushed manner to release on 18th Dec, this is bound to happen.
If you had released the film on 25th Dec, at you would have got a huge opening even though it would crashed later.

  • Rohit beta, tu toh gaya! You go and rush to your big brother, Ajay’s arms, who brought you to this industry. The world is so cruel and only your big brother can help you from falling. And you only blast toy cars. Never ever blast real cars like in this movie.
And Varun, not Blockbuster but Flop written all over Dhobiwale. So, you run to KJo’s arms. Quick! Her arms are widespread for you.

  • @Indicine, many are protesting against Bajirao Mastani as well for distortion of Bajirao’s story by SLB for entertainment’s sake. Mention it as well.

  • I dont know why, but there is too much negativity for SRK. When PRDP was disappointing, these type of hatred comments were not present, but when Dilwale is underperforming, all types hatred comments are being written for SRK.
And why SRK does not get a solo release or a film witbout any protests, but Aamit or Salman, they always get solo release and a clean release. This shows that how much SRK is hated, even by the film industry.
But SRK will always be loved by his fans. Even if his movies will not work, we will love him as he is the most intellectual superstar of our generation.
    Love u SRK.

  • Bajrao Mastani deserved a holiday solo release,Dilwale should have been release on christmas.
BM is enjoying a very good WOM audience are appreciating the film alot compared to Dilwale, the final nail on Dilwale coffin will be the monday collections.
Some people are still optimistic about Dilwale taking advantage of christmas weekend trust me Bajrao Mastani is the film that will enjoy the christmas weekend coz of good WOM

  • Take a bow indicine for analysing at such an immaculate level and that too at the earliest…truly you have grown leaps and bounds as a box office analyst!!!…this is from ur site’s regular visitor since 4 years though not a regular commentator!!!

  • Bajirao had never lost single battle out of 110 battles, his time he prooving that, nthing else,,i salute bajirao I Original

  • I remembered a dialogue from hate story 3 “agar main dubi toh duboge tum v”…. it’s a pay back time for us….what u did on prdp time we r just paying it back…..next time don’t ever dare to spread negativity about salman’s film….see u on next eid…..#koi_dilwale_ko_bachao…..

  • I am not a Salman Khan fan, but Bajrangi Bhaijan will remain the highest grossing movie of the year. As a viewer, What can we take away from Dilwale? Nothing! At least Bajrangi taught us that Humanity is the best religion.

  • @hrithik
Face kia dekhne tum ne yaar.I am so much disappointed that I will never talk about the Boxoffice again.Muje zindagi me apni haar, apne bad time pe itna dukh nai hua jitna aj hua ha.Literally having tears in my eyes.I love srk so much that I cant see him losing ,getting bad response to his movies.I started following BO figures since RA1 release but only soothing point was CE BO performance. From RA1 to Don 2,from JTHJ to HNY I disappointed big time. Now dilwale also became the part of the list.Content wise I only loved JTHJ and still watch it if I get time.RA1 & HNY were worst products.Liked CE & Don 2 but they didnt have repeat values.I never watched them on my laptop after 1st watch.Dont know about the content of Dilwale whether it is going to be in list of ra1,hny or in list of CE.Accepting that BO wise Amir>Salman>Srk.But my love for srk will never fade , may be it increases if i neglect BO race and only enjoy movies.I am srk fan since 2011 when he wasnt at his dream run so will remain loyal to him till my last breath beshak ache din ain ya na ain.

  • As I said earlier, its SRK Fans duty to make DILWALE a winner.
If you love SRK,KAJOL,VARUN,Kriti then go ahead and watch it in theatres and believe me it’s a really Good movie.
    There is unnecessarily extreme negativity.
    Don’t trust it.

  • watched Dilwale on Friday in UAE. Huge disappointment! Although I was not expecting a magnum opus of sorts with Rohit Shetty at the helm this was a colossal disappointment even by his standards. Many of the scenes are carbon copies from Hollywood films like Mission Impossible 2 and so on…an actor like Boman Irani was wasted like anything…SRK looks tired and aged to be honest….the flash back scenes where he was supposed to look in the late 20s were a disaster…he should stop trying to portray younger characters…unlike Aamir and Salman, his face is giving away while doing that…I wish he stopped his chain smoking and unnecessary body building to get some flesh back into his body and face to get back his usual charm….Kajol is not the same actress anymore, Varun Dhawan has nothing much to do as is the case with Kriti Sanon. Good locations, action sequences and cars the plus points on an otherwise boring screenplay with cliches galore.

    2/5

  • I am no SRK fan but irrespective of box office fate of Dilwale SRK remains one of the biggest superstars in the country, there is no denying that.
Although if Dilwale fails, its a lesson to all the superstars (incl. Salman, Aamir, HR, AKKI, AD) that don’t take your audience for granted.
All in all 2015 has been a really poor year for hindi film industry with only Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Bahubali doing well across circuits.

  • @ hrithik – 3:19 am

You’re right this time . He shouldn’t have commented twice on that topic . But sadly I live in a country called India where comments are seldom judged sensibly – as a result almost 1000 shows of Dilwale has been cancelled .

    Sad .

  • Clash has effected it a lot..i can guarantee film would have done more than PRDP if released Solo ….. even the protests as well…LOL i dont know y everyone hates SRK..jealous ??? Salman fans happy that the clash and protests are happening
