You can’t catch him in a regular film where he simply serenades his girl, fights off the baddies and then walks away in the sunset. You won’t find him in remakes either, something which is considered to be a safe formula at the box office and that too for all the right reasons. However pick up some of the most experimental films being made in the commercial mode as Ranbir Kapoor is the one who is waiting to be picked by the biggest in the business.
The trouble lies in the fact that while each of these outings has fetched him critical acclaim, commercially there is a lot waiting to be gained. Whether it is his debut film ‘Saawariya’ or the one that did in the interim period, ‘Rocket Singh – Salesman of the Year’, Ranbir did miss out on setting the cash registers.
Thankfully he has seen big moolah with far more quintessentially commercial films like ‘Raajneeti’ and ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahaani’. On the other hand ‘Rockstar’, which again didn’t quite walk the routine path, opened quite well but couldn’t settle down into becoming a clean hit.
This is the reason why one sees ‘Barfi!’ as a crucial film which is arriving at that juncture of Ranbir’s career where he won’t be satisfied with critical acclaim. He needs good commercial success to his name as well and this is where the ‘experimental’ nature of the film comes into picture. First and foremost he is playing a deaf and mute character which means while there are opportunities waiting to be explored from performance perspective, there are also certain perceived limitations as far as commercial returns are concerned.
In all fairness though the promo has done the trick and at least amongst the class audience ‘Barfi!’ should find its bearings. Moreover Anurag Basu has demonstrated certain sensitivity in his earlier films as well and now with ‘Barfi!’, even he too would have a point to prove that ‘Kites’ was merely an aberration and when given a free hand, he can definitely deliver goods.
In the times when films like ‘Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum’, ‘Jism 2’, ‘Jannat 2’ and ‘Raaz 3’ are taking massive box office openings and exciting audience by the dozens, nothing less than spectacular would be acceptable for Ranbir and his team once ‘Barfi!’ hits the screens. The million dollar question though is – ‘Whether his experimental streak would fetch him good returns this time around?’
I doubt Barfi will be a commercial success. It will be critically acclaimed but wont do well in the long run. Even if its as good as Vicky Donor or Kahaani, I dont see it going beyond 50 crores.
rockstar was his recent in which he acted well but anybody can do justice to that role. barfi may be experimental movie but that have a class to be called a experimental movie. recently great experiment i saw was by aamir khan by tare zameen par which influenced many people. barfi is cheap comedy that ranbir does these movies not for experiment but critics awards
I want at least 65-70cr from barfi.
ranbir is nothin infront of srk
Barfi is not an experiment it is just a film to manipulate critics and awards..an experiment film is something like laagan, tzp, rdb and 3idiots
Indicine@barfi box office prediction update
Seems good movie 75+ crore
movie seems intresting, lets see how imuch intresting and ranbir can win best actor award as well if jthj fails critically
A Gifted actor! suprb skills he has. But can’t compare it with SRK :/
ranbir is nxt superstar nd bttr thn all newcomers…..
ranbir is nxt superstar nd bttr thn all newcomers….. nd sallu ullu.
Barfi is an avarage movie becoz heroine is coming in next weak.and heroine will superhit.akshay omg will avarage due to low budget
truly speaking i really think that barfi will crash at the box office despite it will be critically acclaimed.
Moreover i think that ranbir is a good actor but he is definitely not the star of tommorrow.he is achieving success just because of the backing of his father.
It should be a must watch movie..
It’ll be critically acclaimed and also do a fair enough business on box office. But I don’t see it being a very big hit.I think its gonna be a Hit.
this movie may bring one more award for ranbir but the movie will b a dabba movie like fockstar.. upssss i mean rockstar
it will get ranbir a award, but commercial success,i dont think so
why we all should think, whenever this guy acts, an award should be given????its a hypocritical nonsense.he’s just a beginner, and critics please stop flattering him too much. he doesn’t have the range to showcase different genre of superstardom nor he’s having an aura of a star. first of all tell him to eat something…there is nothing called screen figure in him. sometimes i feel myself a better actor and more good looking than him…so even i can go to bollywood. but thats not reality…i accept it. so we audience expect minimum criterias for an actor.he never qualifies even 6 out of 10 in that aspect. sorry to reveal it, even ranbir knows for himself its TRUE!!!
Well I think that the movie has not released yet in India but it did in our country today and I went to see it coz I wl never miss any of Ranbir’s films.. In a short review I would say that while watching the first half I couldn’t say whether this film is good, bad, interesting, boring., nothing! There’s no good content or a story to follow while watching.. Ranbir’s acting was ofcourse good, Priyanka too but it’s not a film which wl work at the box office.. It won’t be interesting for the audience. I didn’t finish watching this movie and left the cinema in the 2nd half, I just got bored.
It was exactly like short Hollywood old films in 60’s Laurel and Hardey which we used to see on tv but couldn’t watch it for a long time, just for 15 mnts and that’s it because of no content and just some scenes to make u laugh or smile.. Even rocket Singh is much better
No comparision with srk, srk is best
Ranbir is very gud but h can never touch the standerd set by srk
Why everytime such comparisions only with srk bcoy h is best
this film i don’t think will be a great hit …but may do good at box office
Barfi has its own audience, Rockstar was a clean Hit it made 60 plus crore and if we see the collection wise, only stupid movies have made the business and i will not shy out to say that it starts from 3 Idiots itself which is a typical cliche stereotype movie followed by Ett, BG and R1 and etc etc.
It will get its money
