Q. Now that Aamir Khan’s PK is almost certain to open the 300 crore club, is there any chance of the film collecting Rs 350 crore in India? – Sujal (Gangtok)
A. Most certainly, it does have more than a decent chance. 3 Idiots collected Rs 66 crore ‘after’ its second week and PK is expected to sustain on a higher level as there are no major releases this week. In fact, PK could be the first choice at multiplexes next week too, as Tevar is expected to take a good opening at mass centres / single-screens.
If PK collects as much as 3 Idiots did after Week 2, it will finish with lifetime business of Rs 344 crore. We could know as early as the end of this weekend if PK will cross 350 cr or not. 3 Idiots collected Rs 13 crore in its third weekend, if PK collects around 18-20 crore in the next 3 days, 350 crore is a certainty.
Q. Which actor is the biggest non holiday superstar in Bollywood ? – Saksham
A. The Khans would still be the biggest crowd-pullers in the industry, followed by Hrithik Roshan, holiday or not. It’s difficult to differentiate between holiday and non-holiday films – PK released about a week before Christmas, Kick released during Ramadan. This year, Fan will release on a working day, second day (Saturday) will be a holiday for Independence Day.
Q. Is there any chance of Baby by getting 4000 screens? - Badshaw
A. Absolutely no chance. Higher number of screens doesn’t necessarily result in higher collections. What’s the point in releasing Baby at a single-screen in Uttar Pradesh if there is no demand? Release size depends on star-cast, genre, content (whether a film is mass-appealing or not) and several other factors. For example, Talaash can’t get a release like Dhoom 3, even though both films had a massive star cast.

Get well soon. I dare to say Talaash was better than 3 Idiots and PK. And Dhobi Ghat was Aamir’s best film after TZP (Though, it was Prateeik who really stood out as a terrific performer)
Box office collections depend on many many factors. Just because a film has niche appeal or fails to collect big nos. it is not a bad film. By your logic Chennai Express is better than Swades and Dhoom 3 is better than Lagaan!
@Babaji, we still remember epic disasters like kites, guzaarish, thank you, patiala house, khatta meetha, anadi 786, boss, joker which all were non holiday releases. Talaash, jai ho and MNIK were still clean hits. Don’t compare any XYZ actors like Jadoo Boy or 60 cr club lone actor with khans. They are nothing in front of khans.
Post ipl period is being heavily disregarded by our disciple of Saruman- what a loser- akki sir cannot be trusted with any more lucrative release periods Ever again- that man can turn Christmas into abarren period (tmk 2010 despite Sheila song was a disaster due to akkis obnoxious irritating overacting) and his biggest idiot fan will say he had poor script, new heroine, no chart buster music etc etc
Akki Sir completely wastes the advantage of a holiday release unlike the Khans who ensure a big opening- ban akki sir from future holiday releases as our industry cannot survive the losses and reduced income.
YJHD had everything going for it hence the near 190 cr collections- 2014s post ipl period was not so lucky unless it got lucky and had 3 Akki Sir releases then maybe it could have had around 180 cr collections what with each Akki Sir film collecting 60 cr then industry would have been on a high including kshitij Srivastava….!
25-30cr third weekend and 50 cr third week is the target…. Then 4th week onwards this will be a multiplex affair and should cross 350cr and some more…. Tevar storm is not coming- no fanny this time so opening will be poor to say the least.
Come on.. @indicine and all other guys who r talking about Talaash movie…
U guys should understand the logic of why Talaash didnt did good collection of business.
Have a look past history.. the era of 25nov-10dec..no one movie did more business of 100 cr.
I think Bcoz of too much dose of movie in diwali and all.. people thinking now we will see movie on christmas. nd office work, school and colleges exam also on that period. so around 30-40% viewers dont want to watch movies on these period.
I can give u many examples like Talaash.. It was a good film and sureshot 120-130 cr target was not too hard for these film but bcoz of @jabtakhaijaan@sonofsardar nd coming up dabang2.. craze of songs like fevicol se .. and talaash’s mixed reviews couldnt able to make entry 100 cr club.. That was only the AAMIRKHAN Factor did whopping 95cr business in india.. 171cr worldwide..
Second example:- Rockstar… Ranbirkapoor+A.r.rehman+Imtiyaz ali + Super duper hit songs +awesome marketting+ Very well received promos.. these all factors also was not able to fetch 100 cr business .. Why?? rockstar deserves earning more than ye jawaani he deewani. but couldnt.. why? Release date..
Third example:- Action Jackson.. I strongly believed that bcoz of poor word of mouth and critics review movie didnt did well business.. But What happened to first day business?? that was same actor who did whopping 30 cr business for singham returns.. Action jackson’s promo views was more than Pk.. People loved trailer. But AJ did only 13cr on Day1?? Why?? 25nov-10dec…
Many more films like ungali, singhsab, gori tere pyar me,happyending,khelen ham ji jaan se, Break k baad, desy boys, Bullet Raja,de dana dhan, Paa,Rocket singh, (Rab ne bana di jodi),Yuvraj,halla bol,baabul,guzarish. So these are the movies all didnt did well on box office bcoz of Release date. All movie are from 2007-2014..
2006 backwards, Diwali was on those period so business was good on that time.

Talaash was the highest movie earner among them… AAMIRKHAN …AAMIRKHAN AAMIR KHAN.
In last 8 years all others actor movie came on these time but highest earner movie on these era also goes toSUPERSTAR Mr. AAMIRKHAN..
Shahrukh,salman,hritik,ranbir,akshay,ajay,amitabh.. all actors movie came on these time frame but highest movie earner was TAALAASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhh…
@gj007: here we’re talking about BO. That’s why I said that Agneepath came after a dark period( two flops in 2010 and 1 superhit in 2011. ZNMD became a superhit mainly due to its content) . Otherwise, I even don’t care about BO. ZNMD,D2,KMG and even Kites are some of my fav films of Hro. Also, my all time fav film is a flop at BO.

it is very shame to me that pk is collecting so good. pk is worst movie i have seen ever. there is no story, no new to offer. indian audiences never knew to watch good movie.

If bong bong is not a holiday release despite having 5 holidays in its first week then neither are Aamirs Dhoom 3 nor PK holiday releases- both films are non holiday ATBBs and Highest Grosser Off All Time with very few holidays and next to none manipulation….!

PK restores faith in Bollywood audience. When utter garbage movies like Kick and HNY were the highest grossers of the year, you wonder are audience of Hindi cinema brain dead .
The movies were so bad. Kick was a atrocious rehash of Dhoom 2 and Jugnu. HNY was bankrupt man utterly boring version of Oceans 13 which itself was terrible. I have seen some bad movies in the last five years but these two take the cake. if you go purely on entertainment value these two were pathetic Actually even a Bang Bang was more entertaining . PK however is in a totally different stratosphere. It is a pity it did not collect 100 crore in second week due to some fanatics banning an cold wave.
This record will be broken in 2019 by Christmas release by Raju Hirani starring RK and HRO a homage to inception of Google
