Why is the media and critics too harsh on Akshay Kumar?

Q. Hi. First of all I think this site provides genuine information with near accurate stats, my question is after the debacle of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA is there negative vibe created for Akshay Kumar, literally every time his film is about to release the media and some critics are too harsh on him, even after bounced back after a bad phase why such negativity for Akshay? - Nirmal Behera

A. There is a saying in the industry that ‘fortunes change every Friday’. When an actor is going through a low phase there will be negativity, both in the media and trade. Its not just Akshay, but every actor / actress / director in the industry. If 2 or 3 Shahrukh Khan or Salman Khan films fail, there will be negativity against them too.

Shahrukh was ridiculed for experimenting with a film like Ra One, even though it earned more than 200 crore worldwide. Aamir’s stardom was questioned after Talaash which grossed 170 crore worldwide. Hrithik Roshan was written off after his debut, and again after Guzaarish and Kites.

But all these actors that we just mentioned, including Akshay Kumar, have an established fan-base. Flops affect them temporarily, one good film and all is well.

As for critics thrashing films, you got to remember that reviews are subjective. Not everyone will like the best of films and a select few people might have enjoyed watching Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag! Almost every big film gets ratings between 0 to 4.5 stars. Who do you believe? We say, forget the critics, if you’re unsure whether a film is worth your hard-earned money or not, ask your friends or follow our box office trends. Most films that trend well are more often than not, worth a watch!

  • Nioun said 1.2 rating for gunday was justified.I don’t like to insult others but when someone keeps on speaking rubbish and behaving like a c grade version of hitler then I m bound to loss my cool.nipun, just ine more rubbish comment bro then I will teach u wat is real intellectualism.got it!

  • @arjun kapoor:you never see my comments carefully. In the article u’re saying about,i said ready,dabng2,bodyguard etc were craps. Ce and d3 are two okayish films for me.
As for ashiqui 2, it was an okayish one.but it’s too overrated as far as content is concerned. You misunderstood me which is way u dislike my comments.

  • when it comes to critically acclaimed movie, everyone will start commenting like gentleman as non of them watching bodyguard/dabang2,lol.I know as a SRK FAN I also agree RA ONE,CE also should have get low rating but these films are too good comparing with those wanted,ready,bg,dabang-1,2 like biggest craps.

coming to akshay kumar, what happened with his movies like patiala house,cc2c,sp26 I felt bad.no doubt people watches masala movies more than critically acclaimed movies but I appreciated when people underrated boss,ouatimd,k786,holiday and it doomed but I felt unhappy again for rr which is bb. but what could akki do he is south remake obsessed totally.
but I didn’t mean ph,cc2c as critically acclaimed movies.

the sole reason to hate a south remake is every film that I watched each of it is just like one man army and I hate this the most and if some good would have exist in south that will not be able to remake in Hindi.also someone mentioned rdb,hum tum as good at the same time that hypocrite moron wrote JTHJ is bad movie,so I like to ask if JTHJ is bad in ROMANTIC GENRE then how rdb,ht becomes so good in a patriotic suspense and rom-com genre, grow up?

I agreed with @nipun for the dhoom3 review and laughed at those morons who gave it 4.5 rating.but still I want to question @nipun why you’re thinking only hr movies are critically acclaimed only because he is your favourite?you also didn’t also support IMDB only for gunday/ any of hr movie surpass 8RATING IN IMDB?kindly answer it.you said bang bang is high class film and HNY is not, what kind of hypocrisy is that?may you couldn’t agree filmwise but still SRK is the BEST MASALA GENRE ACTOR for FOR HIS ACTING IN MHN,OSO,CE(CLIMAX AND IN SOME MANY POINT) and STILL DON2 is THE BEST ACTION MOVIE OF BOLLYWOOD TILL DATE.

one has written-“you don’t know what youth of bollywood can do”.I don’t know in which meaning he write that, still I will say ONE THING—–“GROW UP INDIAN YOUTH”.

  • Yes nipun that us where I hv problm with u.u blv if a film that u didn’t like or found okayish bit has worked at the b.o. then it is for wrong reason like marketing, music, release date etc.plz pay respect to films that u haven’t liked but have worked as lot of hard work of huge no. Of people goes into making a film hit.but when despite becoming hit ppl like u instead of honouring the film start giving all the appreciation to marketing, star power, release date then it really hurts

  • @arjun kapoor:i don’t care whether u lose ur coolness or not. I am not afraid of anybody.
Btw,go and watch imdb. Gunday’s rating is 1.6 only out of 10. I said 1.2 as i didn’t check it now. At the time of release, it reduced to 1.2.
I dnt find anything wrong in my comments. Gunday was a below average to average film.but 1.2-1.6 is still very small. It should have been 3.5 to 4 atleast out of 10.

  • @arjun kapoor:i dnt shout everywhere about a film content.i tell it only when it’s necessary.i am noone to bash a film either. I just give my own opinion.
@sss:when did i say that only hr has critically acclaimed film? ?i know mpkdh n amall were poor films.

  • @Deepu,So holiday can be hit only in 100cr when it’s budget is 75cr but talaash is semi-hit when it did 95cr when it’s budget was 45cr??Wow these so called trade analyst are so genius

  • I dont think critics are harsh towards him.he himself affected hid career by bad selection…Omg and S26 were critically acclaimed movies……………if movie is good it will be well received by audience and critic………how can someone give good rating to k786 and OUTIMD????? Now holiday is a good movie thats why it is well received by everyone…simple do quality movies get good reviews..

  • Nipun then how did gunday become a b.o. hit if everyone found it below avg.r u trying to say that ranveer and arjun have such huge fan following that their loyal fans can make even their bad wom films hit at the b.o.

  • @nipun,mpkdh n amall are which movies you’re talking about?how could be kmg/k3 becomes so innovative for you, kindly answer.

  • @sss:those are “main prem ki diwani hoon” and “aap mujhe achhe lagne lage”. .other dan these two i dnt find any hrfilms were bad.

  • @sss:why u always tell abt krrish series? ?those were nice films.when someone does hard work and give something new and ambitious to bolly industry,we sud appriciate dem.

  • how are the media and critics harsh on akshay? Critic reviews are generally not so good for most big films nowadays n his last few films done around 70cr n holiday will jus cross 100cr so what do you want?

  • Reviews are just for the evaluation of movie.Every stars have their rough patches.I am akki fan but I didn’t prefer to watch film like joker/action replay/TMK but he is only one to have done all genres of films.we did love if 1994,2007, magic repeat again and again and again where he had given 6 hits and 4 superhits in these years….

  • I don’t really think that media is against akshay. in fact media is mostly against aamir khan. because whenever his films release they keep remembering his talaash. but they often ignore the failures of salman’s long chain of flops before wanted like salaam e ishq, shadi karke phas gaya, yuvvraj, heroes, main aur mrs khanna, london dreams, jaaneman, and many others. srk’s paheli, billu, dulha mil gaya, my name is khan, etc. shame on this media.

  • as 21st century is a world of multitaskers, we need legends like that. its not easy, to make 4 or 5 movies in a year, all in different range, different characters, different locations, sometimes the actor has to move to 2 places in the same schedule. for that you need guts, you need stamina, you need passion, you need to be GREAT than the rest. thats only Akshay kumar. why even after he’s there in industry for 24 years on top 5, people dont understand or intentionally forgetting it???why u never give credit to a person , only actor who has won award in all genres of acting. if Akshay could’ve chosen one movie per year, it would have been a master piece than aamir. no doubt. if he’s into this stress, blame it on producers who are still in queue for him. his dates are fully packed with 8 movies till 2016. isits his fault??if he’s multitasking, respect that effort, not on the output. by the way, who wants or expects quality output in the industry, when crap movies like dhoom 3 are accepted by indian audience????
